Around 2:30 he takes a bit of time to acknowledge the playing of the other guys on stage, gives a nod and a smile to the violinist who’s face lights up. Mark has done this all through his career, he has always shown appreciation and respect to the people who play alongside him, despite his talent he never made it all about him. A class act and a gent.

A friend of mine teaches guitar. I asked him if he openings in his schedule for me. I want to learn to play like Mark Knopfler. He replied, “WE ALL want to play like Mark!”

He is like David Gilmour in that way. Very different styles, but you don’t have to be told who they are when you hear them playing.

The way he plays..omg, there will never be another like him. I listen and I'm a teenager again. It never gets old.

First mk/ds song I heard was Your Latest Trick, I was 12 years old in 1985?and I never looked back, beautifully technical guitarist whom I owe it to for me picking up a guitar. Also he was born in Glasgow just like me x

Mark knopfler imo is the most underrated guitarist /songwriter ever. He's written hits for some of the biggest stars and his guitar style has a beautifully emotive and melodic flavour unlike anyone else. After all these years he still often references his homeland in his songs, which adds to his authentic and earthy tone. One of the greatest of all time for sure.

@@fredericrike5974 are you sure? I maybe wrong but Brothers in arm was the first commercial cd. And that's why Phillips spent lot of money to promote this album. And as far I remember the two last Dire Straits tour were Big promoting tour. And during the last MK & Bob Dylan Tour, MK brougth to Dylan 'his' public (At least in France) I fully agree that MK is greatest ans probable an admirable man. But he was not underrated ans Dire Strait was Big Music Machine as Pink Floyd for instance.

@@trucbidule3939 All long after Knopfler had proven "doing it his way" would make them money- he didn't work with producers that tried to tell him "what his sound should be". MK has been performing at this level for several decades- he was always fantastic, never formulaic. I don't have a large disagreement with you- but Phillips was never as bad as several of the labels- and MK was established. As the saying goes, don't mess with it, if it aint broke!

God has given this man a great talent........I know his music lives in many lives ..............the words and music will carry into the next generation because it’s just too good to fade away!

I understand the truth when I listen to Mark Knopfler.

I am listening to Mark since the 1977 until and he's the best player ever,,,,,

Mark has a way of making everyone play to their highest level. They have smiles and grins because they know they played spectacularly! He glances at the players to show approval. Just a great sound no lights or fireworks for him ,he don’t need them.His music will last forever.

icedbass Huh? Last year he played in Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lyon, Strasbourg, Paris, and Nimes. He tours all over Europe, and I can guarantee he plays within 2 hours of your home. What do you mean ‘no chance’ because you live in France?

In an interview some 38 or so years ago Joe Walsh said" Don't be in such a hurry..... no-one makes it overnight, and God help you if you do, because you go down just as quick." Mr Knopfler is the embodiment of this. One of the few reasons to be proud to be British.

There will never be another like this man. He is incredible. He always. Acknowledge his band members as if they are the ones that make him successful.

I’ve been a massive fan ever since my mate played me the first Dire Straits album in ‘78. Saw them in ‘79 in the Birmingham Odeon and have all of their albums and most of Mark’s solo work. A superb performance here from a great artist with a unique and unmistakable sound.

I literally remember the first time i heard Dire Straits on the radio. I was with a renown jazz guitarist from NYC and we both shut up and listened all the way through, mesmerised.

I just want to tell you that you are one of the few people that I consider great in music and that I would like to meet you in person.
