I grew up listening to Mario Lanza , I have very fond memories of my dad conducting the orchestra from the kitchen while listening to his favourite tenor Mario Lanza. Both are gone now but are never forgotten., whenever I hear Mario Lanza sing I have so many memories.

Listening to mario from age 6 I learnt to appreciate foreign songs,my parents did this for which I am thankful for, but he will always be my favourite.

Mario Lanza was a magnificent singer, he had such a presence. Loved watching his movies.

I remember watching his movies when I was little. He passed the year I was born -1959. Impressive voice. And a handsome man.

He also doubled for Frank Sinatra and was his bodyguard and appeared in musicals and his films. Frank adored Mario's singing.

I just discovered this hispanic opera and I can not stop to watch it and listen it. I am from Medellin, Colombia and I really admire this verse: " Flowers of melancholia."

@@jrbutnotewing8227 I listened to Jonathon based on your recommendation. While he is a very good singer and maybe he’s just too young yet. He’s not in Pavarotti’s or Mario Lanza’s League. Sometimes he gets it right but sometimes like "O solo mio" he's just not there yet.

Magnifico!!! He is incredible. wonderful man, and far surpasses Pavarotti and Domingo! It is a tragedy his career and life were so short!

Beautiful, smooth voice and range. He changed his voice for the music in The Student Prince as this show was not an opera. So versatile and talented.

There will never ever be a tenor to equal his voice. He was the greatest always will be. Loved his voice since I was a child.

​@@jeanrussell9016 Umm.. no. It's not a matter of opinion it's a straight fact. That's like saying Hermann Hesse is greater writer than Dostoyevsky. He isn't and he can't be by any stretch of imagination. My comparison might even be closer than ML and LP comparisons. The very fact that you're stating something like that, either means your have little knowledge of the male tenor opera singers in general or you're being a fanboy and every logic and rationale in that case is out of the water. You might PREFER ML's voice as in 'colour of his voice'. But the technique, depth (vocal not range), range (as well), diaphragm control, mouth control, dynamic control, volume (both chest and voice), interpretation and many many smaller components of Pavarotti's voice are better, some by 3 classes than ML. Actually, if you knew anything about Mario Lanza, you would know he had trouble singing for longer durations and that's why he in all practical sense NEVER sang an opera. So much about opera singer. :D Ps. No straining? Oh boy, that confirms for me that you haven't heard that many opera singers at all. ML was more on the "straining" side than he wasn't.

That voice cames from another world...that is the only one who sings with so much vibrato, feelings...he's voice goes directly in my heart. We will never forget you...the best ever !

He was simultaneously a great tenor, a marvelous recording artist, a global movie star and a highly sought after concert performer. A splendid book captures his talent, passion and love of his art: A KID FROM PHILADELPHIA, MARIO LANZA, THE VOICE OF THE POETS. It is a beautiful homage and should be read while listening to Mario sing.

Hi gigi,augustin lara wrote this song in 1932 about his city granada many tenors sang it, he thought mario lanza might do a good job on it, so they gave the song to mario to rehearse, and sing it. my good friend and health trainer terry robinson, who worked for louie b mayer at mgm studios in hollywood, marios trainer took mario to a recording studio to record granada, augustin lara was there along with a full orchester. when mario got finished recording, he approched lara, and asked him how did he like the way he sang his song, lara was crying, and said never would i think that some one could take my song and sing it the way you did, not only that the whole orchester stood up and applauded which is very rare. a true story, terry robinson was marios best friend. regards Louie Vaccaro tenor. e mail vaccaro2012@gmail.com
