‘The (or Coronation Day) is my favorite. It feels a lot more unsettling than the typical .exe fare since it doesn’t try to overwhelm you with creepy sounds or visuals…it just gradually builds up a sense of dread. There’s also a bunch of secrets and whatnot hidden with the files and multiple playthroughs.

I've never actually played Coronation Day but as the average "making up horror games in my head" lover (me when can't afford RPG maker) hard agree. something about just the style of it is very cool to me. I think it's probably because there's not any real risk, but you still are there terrified something's gonna come and getcha. and also, the thing with the enemies is rlly neat. bc for a Mario fan they'll see the enemies and immediately jump of them. so revealing that the enemies weren't threats at all is a cool twist for a horror game. working with your instinct if you know the game it's based on.

Coronation Day is actually insane. It has like 7 endings or something, though 2 are only accessible through cheats. It’s the only creepypasta I’ve ever felt uncomfortable playing.

It has a remastered version, with a secret cutscene in the best ending which shows a location lf the sequel (mario the music box ARC)

In coronation day, when you get to the place with the pool of blood in one of the endings, if you hold down R, you can see a secret.

When I was a youngin it reminded me of Marx and it made me mad I couldn’t kill her

the' story may be complex but i managed to break it down to be more understandable. Mario had built a bride across the river for Peach with the help of the dinos and toads, even painting it red as part of the celebration. Everything seemed to be going fine up until peach decided to cross it one day without saying a word. The bride had collapsed on her, drowning her and trapping her spirit in the forest. Mario, after hearing about her disappearance, decides to go and investigate the bridge while trying to gather clues on what happened to the bridge; and more importantly what happened to the princess. The princess in question, due to her untimely death was of course boiling with rage and hatred towards mario because he was the one who killed peach. If the bridge had a few more renovations maybe the princess would still be safe. The subtle messages from peach was her saying its marios fault that the bridge collapsed and how he was the one who built it without enough logs (another ending to the game). i dunno this is the best i could've interpreted the storybased off all of the endings plus the peach segments

I saw another theory in which the forest is sacred and that there's an entity protecting it, mario uses the wood of the forest to make a house and the entity gets REAL mad, even crossing to other timelines (that's why peach sees a corrupted version of herself, one that was takenover by the entity, and in one ending mario falls over ANOTHER mario)

That's a nice theory, but some things don't add up. It wouldn't make sense for Peach to be so enraged at Mario. Peach was never like that. Mario is her friend, she would forgive him, especially if it was an accident. Also, there's the whole thing with organs: _"Feasting on the flowering organs"_ _"THE CROP THIS YEAR WAS HORRENDOUS EXCEPT FOR YOU"_ _"my lungs hurt, please take them out"_ _"please help me, I can't stop CUTTING"_ It all seem to imply that there are creatures (human, animal or monster) being used up to feed something or someone. Specifically, their organs. Also, there's a route in which the dinosaurs are swapped by sprites of organs, like realistic hearts. There's also that thing with "The answer lies in the collection of worlds, "The dragon can't fly, only act" and the "31st July, 1992" messages, which bring even more confusion to the table. I still don't quite know what to make of it all, but I feel like it has some meta elements, probably something to do with Mario and/or Peach being aware that they have infinite "lives", or that they're stuck in some sort of endless timeloop or purgatory. Hence the "again?" everytime we try again from the beginning, and how someone watching us apparently gets mad if we enter a level and don't move for a minute.

Coronation day is by far the best exe type game i have ever seen. Its disturbing and has a story that is sort of difficult to pick apart unless someone tells you what they think the story is

​@@ImmaLittlePip The creator was never a troll, the description of a homicide you get after defeating the first boss accidentally went along with the hidden image. Everyone thought it was intentional and that there was a story to follow, seeing the mysterious aura he got and that everyone was invested waiting for more info, he made more games, until he simply didn't feel like it anymore and started using his account like any normal user, ruining what the ARG could've been. He never made the account just to crap on bronies.

One thing I really like when creepypasta games do is use glitches textures more than blood. The beginning parts of Crucis Mortem genuinely looks like a glitched NES cart or corrupted file and I love that. It can be difficult it really sell what a corrupted game properly looks like.

How is he built

I'm not one for horror games, or even creepy pastas, but I do enjoy watching others play them. And Crucis Mortem is definitely the kind of game that intrigues me but I'd never want to play it at night alone in a room without windows.

This gives me the same vibes as PBG’s scary Mario rom hacks video, but with actual games. It’s nice knowing Mario is getting more high quality horror material now, even if it is due to blue haired beatbox boy and funny icebergs.

I feel like 99% of Mario horror plots are some kind of allegory to suicide.

The dialogue in 'the coronation day is almost entirely randomized, I played through the entire thing and got vastly different text. Nearly every playthrough I've seen has had different text too, which is very interesting. You did miss a few things in it besides the text, most memorably the hell room. I really like the ROM hack, it lives rent free in my head.

True, there's so many things left up to speculation that it becomes impossible to forget, it sucks to know the dev is finished tho. I guess it's comparable to what it'd be like if FNaF ended in 3. It's an ending, a dreadful ending but at least it's over.

3:00 fun fact, the romhack was actually part of an unfinished arg made by a 14 year old who was trolling because they got upset they got a low rating in a mario fan level design contest. Theres a few sequels part of it but to my knowledge they're quite difficult to get a hold of anymore as the creator was banned for well...trolling lol. All that could be gleamed about the arg was that there was a illness was going around that mutates people before they died and it seemed to be contracted in caves

Good coverage! I echo some of the other comments that the MARIO image always freaked me out real bad, especially since the ROM itself was lowkey. One small correction though, in that the MARIO ROM was actually just uploaded to SMW Central in late December 2010, and the original thread exploring it is real. The Creepypasta Wiki entry on it wasn't written 'til March 2011. Heck, there's even a sequel ROM called Super Mario Ultimatum. There's a great lil documentary video covering it all by 'Hey Peter' if interested!

Actually. Adam didnt make the hack. Part of the story, finding it in the moderation backlogs, was true. It was created by a user simply named M A R I O. They actually revealed themself to the community recently saying it was cryptic and stupid on purpose, that the secrets actually led to nothing because they never had a plan to begin with, and that some of the hidden stuff in the Lunar Magic editor for it was a bunch of MLP and Homestuck references

If you do i totally recommend Mario the music box it's getting a remaster with animated cutscenes and it looks amazing with it's continuation mario the music box arc it is more psychological horror but man the death scenes are brutal and have gotten worse from what I've heard so i totally recommend you play it and give it a chance you won't regret it!
