I made two creative decisions for this video that I hope those who are nuts about accuracy (myself included) will overlook. 1: Mariner 10 launched at night. The amount of available source material for this mission was so low that I decided to give you the best show I could regarding the launch, and so put together some of the most beautiful Atlas-Centaur angles I have. I did this so that this video would have an appealing launch scene, but just know the launch footage is not from the Mariner 10 mission. 2: The images of Venus and Mercury were from all sorts of missions -- Mariner 10 included, of course...but I also used images from MESSENGER, Magellan, Akatsuki, etc. I did this because the over-arching subject of this video were the planets themselves, not just Mariner 10. I wanted to showcase the beauty of these places in ways that the images of Mariner 10 could only partially accomplish. I know this video was a bit of a step down emotionally from STS-107 and Apollo 13, but hopefully not a step backwards. I hope you enjoyed it all the same.

It was Mariner 1’s Atlas booster that deviated. A hyphen had been omitted from the guidance system that commanded a sudden turn at 294.5 seconds and forced the RSO to send the destruct signal. Unfortunately, this was near the end of its burn time. Mariner 2 almost didn’t get into its parking orbit either because its Atlas began to roll after liftoff. It wasn’t serious enough to curtail the mission and Mariner 2 limped by Venus on 14 December 1962 and sent back some basic data after enduring what some called “the perils of Pauline”.

This is the perfect bedtime story. The intro soundtrack is like a backyard in summer. Then a slow pan up to the star lit sky above; a warm, sweet, calm and still summer night. Zzzzooming away into the dreams of the past; with hope for the future. Well done.
Love the Skyrim music at 10:00
I can watch your outstanding videos forever.

I just keep coming back to them
You do great work that is not only informative but inspiring. Thank you very much.
Amazing production, hat off to Jackson Tyler and the supporting team if there is one. Learned so much!
Awesome documentaries! Great quality and excellent job! Thanks a lot)
I love your work! The best docos ever, there are mistakes, but know it is difficult in a time where disinfo / biases exists everywhere. Keep up this beautiful work, truly a gem compared to commonly viewed and other professional mainstream works!
holy shit this is a extremely high quality yt video how is this channel not as popular
Very informative... I’ve always wished someone would make documentaries aimed at an audience of scientists and engineers. We watch TV too!
5:37 "Slowly but surely..." Where did I hear those words in combination with Mars before? Ah, yes: "...they drew their plans against us".
Fantastic, this really deserves about 1000 times the views it currrently has. Greatly appreciated by those who can appreciate it
People forget how important Jack Parsons was to the space race! He was of course instrumental in the formation of JPL. He was also heavily into Magick
Mariner 10 third flyby was accomplished 50 years ago. What a remarkable moment. (And JT I hope you return soon, I miss your talent and dedication, you are the best. Cheers from southern Brazil)
I like a lot of the technical details in your documentaries: electronic systems discussions, component (resistors, capacitors, etc.) issues in equipment, etc. Your channel is a historical documentary channel with a technical emphasis. The only thing missing is block diagrams when describing these systems. Being I am an amateur radio operator, it makes these documentaries very interesting to watch. 73 de Darrell KT4WX
Your Homemade Documentaries are better than 95% of everything 'professionally' available out there.
Thank you for another great documentary Jackson. You certainly are a talented documentary maker!
New subscriber, and so glad I found you. Outstanding work, and excellent narration. You have a voice that is well suited. Now trying to see if I can somehow work my way chronologically (by project) through them all. Thank you for your diligence and efforts.
Great documentary made even better by the skyrim music
Really enjoying your doco's and you do a great job. Nicely paced, clear voice and interesting information all rolled into one package. Here's to a good future for your channel.
This channel is the equivalent to Kerbal Space Program !!!! Thank You sir!!!
You have made a fantastic documentary. Thank you 😎👍
Fantastic. The quality and depth are world class.
This is brilliantly produced documentary, however I cannot get over the The Elder Scrolls Skyrim soundtrack being used for the music, great choice.
Unbelieavable ingenuity. Those scientist were incredible in a time when computers where toys as pr today standards and AI was only science fiction. Amazing achievements. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Paraguay.
Been watching the Apollo docs too..... Amazing work! 😆
Fantastic! Subscribed and looking forward to many more exceptional videos!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Spectacular! These are amazing documentaries!
Thanks very much for this heads-up. It's replete with wonderful launch footage and images and more info than I was ever able to garner at that time. I'm truly hooked.
Certainly one of the best astronomy programs I have seen : packed with info and spectacular images. Thank you.
Why hasn't this channel got millions of subscribers? Wonderful documentaries!
I recently learned that Mariner 9's orbit around Mars has decayed and the probe is expected to crash on the planet in 2022. That might make for an interesting documentary!
Never expected skyrim OST in a space documentary, but appreciated
I have learned so much from these excellent documetaries, thank you so much for making them.
Thank you for this great video!
I binged this channel so hard. What a time
Just wonderful.
Great vid. Exceptionally great channel. Don & Martha King to top it off. Grew up with them practically.

Brilliant film! Thank you!
Amazing!!! Bravo good Sir on a wonderful documentary!!
Another excellent documentary.
Great content. I love it! Keep up the great work!
Thanks you so much for this content
Another superb rendering of a fascinating space story!
Rendering error at 41:18. Correction:I said the second course correction maneuver took place in January 73...it in fact took place in Jan, 1974. Sorry
The nerdy music you choose often makes my day
I really enjoy your work. The skyrim soundtrack killed me on this one😂
This is the worst channel on KZread because it has the BEST space videos ever made and makes all other space docs look like clickbait garbage. Please upload more soon and do one on the Cassini mission so that my pain can be eased. Thanks guy, love you.
Love these docs
Very nice and very good video!! Thanks a lot!
Just wonderful. :)
Good morning JT. We are working on some armor for my husband today... yes in cotton yarn. i am insanr and im here because your Documentaries are the best for this sort of insanity 😅😂❤
I didn’t really like the videos about non manned missions, however, after watching this, I like them!!! So… thanks! Also, just like all of ur vids, just incredible. 👍🏻
Best videos on KZread award
This was a great mission... and excellent experience for the Voyager projects.
Love the Skyrim music in the background.
Another learning day again. Great job .🇫🇮📡
Absolutely fantastic work my friend. Well researched, excellently narrated. 10/10. Would rather watch one of your documentaries than watch the history channel.
Outstanding Channel
Thanks for watching ? No ! thanks to you for doing this work ! So precise, so informative, accurate and entertaining at the same time. Putting everything context detailing the processes, while remaining interesting is an art. It helps to keep our hopes up for the future, the people (problem solvers) that you brilliantly describe are our fathers or grandfathers / mothers. It's not so far this kind of talent and know how still exists . It is the fourth or fifth of your documentaries that i am watching and i keep thinking because of your "touch " Great this is real and didn't happen in a galaxy far far away. It' was yesterday.
Thanks!
One of the few flaws is the overly applied liberty about aspect ratios of photos resulting in distinctly egg-shaped planets and moons.
The words and narrating style are easily understandable!
Are you doing these yourself if so that's amazing
CONTENT SUGGESTION: Cassini. This would solve two problems: You would never run out of content to produce and I would always have more amazing videos to watch.🎉🙌🔥
I love your videos! ❤️

@@JacksonTyler I've been watching 16 with my Dad the past few days on our big screen. He's loving it! He said your 16 Documentary is the most interesting he's watched on the subject, he specifically said there's so much interesting information he's not seen anywhere before. Your maps of landing sites and crater markings brings so much reference to everything. The Moon shots you use are so clear of the surrounding terrain and landing area. The way you structure your videos feels like being there as everything happening on screen. I'm going to rewatch all your documentaries with him, he's now hooked! Such fun father/daughter time! 😊 Yes of course your invitation still stands! Come visit I'd love it... I'll show you around everywhere. ✈️😍

That’s awesome to hear. It makes me so glad to know you find the subject just as captivating. The world needs more people like you interested in space and take it from someone whose audience is literally 96.5% self identified as male, it’s equally refreshing to hear your experience. Thanks for sharing! Means a lot to me as a creator.
Superb.
The skyrim music is the cherry on top
I got it. Thanks for telling me where the music segment came from..
And another great documentary. And again, it far surpasses what PBS and BBC can muster up, good as those are. You are clearly very talented: production, story, narrative, voice, media and engineering and scientific data are all excellent. So when is the next one? :-) I do hope you are working on more!
29:06 - that surface is in a state of constant rifting and re-forming. A sort of quasi-lava. It rips and breaks all over the place whilst simultaneously re-solidifying. It is moderately molten.
Good documentary.
16:30 I like how you'll often show the entire launch and orbit entry clip, with no voice over. TV-based productions would never have burned that much air time, pun intended.

The Ship is gone but it’s not forgotten.
Ngl the Skyrim music caught me off guard
Quite a amazing endeavor for 1973. I was just 12 then. I remember comet Khahotek.
