The craft had no computer because at the time NASA did not believe in sending women into space 🙃

Thought this was just a really sexist remark until I watched the video 😂

@@BradleyG01 Everything from the 1950s and 1960s era is sexist to the hilt.
Outstanding, can't wait for the next instalment. "It seems like only yesterday, perhaps (at most) the day before A child watched a TV set, and listened to the Redstone's roar I watched each second of that flight, and never did I think to leave Fifteen minutes - not so long, except when you forget to breath"
You fooled me with the intro. I was thinking something must have happened to your good mic.

\*crackle\* Rescuing one Kerbal at a time. They are... The Blunderbirds!
Ah ha! A cliff hanger! 😁 It's great to relive some of these moments in detail. I wasn't around for most of the Mercury Program, except the last flight. But only a toddler. I recall all of the Gemini Program, as well as all of the Apollo and of course beyond. I still have original patches for many of them, including Skylab missions. I get personally offended by flat Earthers. These programs are what inspired my generation to develop the very tech that they are using to deny it! It's like being the idiot that thought the guy with the lampshade on his head was actually a lamp. Pitiful!

That wasn't a lamp? Son of a bi....
Much of this is so familiar. I am old. Thanks, DKIS.
This is a really well made, thought out, and throughly researched docu-series!!

Thank you!
Excellent, well done, well researched. If only the Space deniers would view this.
Enjoyed this first video of the series. Well researched as always. It was interesting to learn one of the earlier uses of the word "computers".

If you've not seen the film, 'Hidden Figures' it's well worth watching.
I don’t comment often. This channel deserves one for the algorithm. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you!

Always interesting, Kevin!!!! Someday I'll get around to reading your trilogy that I bought when I thought I had some free time..... years ago...
TIL the first flight test of the project was a real-world pad abort. And I consider myself to be an avid space enthusiast so I am very appreciative of the depth of research that went into this thing. I eagerly await the next part
I loved your old style narrative voice.
Holy crap! I always assumed military test pilots were NASA's first choice. Excellent video. Highly enjoyable and informative. Thanks.
As usual, informative, engaging, and visually fun. Well done, keep at it!!!!!
Loves these histories of the space program. So much I didn't know about how it all came together.
Excellent video - looking forward to the rest of the series
Great work as always Kevin. Hope all is well in your world.
Great documentary!
Looks like they forgot to check there staging before launch.
Excellent documentary! 👏👏👏
Nicely done as always :)
I live this

Loved the opening
Seeing as the "computers" used at this time were nearly all women, how did NASA manage to generate images of space travel, and later the moon landings? To make a motion picture with at least a 25fps rate, would need quite a few technically literate artists, illustrators drawing simultaneously in a massive secret studio which no-one has seen or found yet....and collate all these images into a black and white television version of events to fool the public for over sixty years? Or was it easier to actually do it for real?
👍👍👍👍👍
Great job, keep it up.

Thanks, will do!
Excellent and well done - I'll surely watch the next one and the next.... I vaguely recall Project Gemini, but most of Apollo. Watching the moon landing on our old B&W TV, even if it meant we had to stay up very late. I can't wait to Artemis landing the next astronauts on the moon.
Correct me if im wrong but i think I’ve noticed a pattern that most of the early astronauts cane from rural midwestern states. Particularly Ohio (completely understandable).
just found the channel, Anyone else think he sounds just like Babish?

@DeadKennedyInSpace he's a big youtube chef. Definitely a compliment! The similarity comes and goes, but you all have a very similar cadence in this video.
Love the video, but ugh on saying Wally's name wrong.
