MARINE Life Persisting Within A SEALED JAR │ Saltwater Ecosphere │ 6 Month Update
In this video we take a look at the Saltwater Ecosphere I built 6 months ago. A lot of life forms have gone extinct since the previous video. Many are still persisting and some are even breeding however!
The tiny marine snails are the most notable species you notice within this ecosphere. They feed on the seaweed and have a large breeding population. I imagine their population will continue to rise for as long as there is enough essential nutrients to support the population growth.
Another breeding species within this ecosphere are the Ostracods. I have counted 2 notable species. The first species are the long bean shaped Ostracods. They seem to come in both black and brown colour variations. These ostracods spend a majority of their lives under the sand. The second ostracod species are rounder. They are more likely to journey onto the surface of the sand, however can also burrow. These round ostracods have a blue and yellow tint on their chitin when viewed at certain angles.
I believe the pink clam like organisms are Thin Tellin (Macomangulus tenuis). They filter the water column for food. I am unsure whether or not they are reproducing, however there is a notable population of them.
The coolest species within this ecosphere is the Water-line Isopods. They are few in number, but easily my favorite species within this ecosystem. Originally their population was a lot higher, but it has decreased drastically. They can often be seen zooming around the jar in search of food. When they are not swimming around they are hiding underneath the sand.
THE AVOID CONFUSION:
The Saltwater Ecosphere was made on the 10th May 2021, however the actual creation video wasn't uploaded until the 19th of July 2021. People are asking if this should be a 4 month update, however I don't upload my videos immediately the same day the ecosphere is created. That wouldn't be possible. To put it simply, upload dates don't = creation dates.

Hi. Sorry that I've not been uploading recently. Originally I was taking a short break due to recovering from Covid. This was only meant to be a couple of weeks. During this time frame however a close member of my family got very sick whilst battling cancer. The cancer was terminal. When this was going on I didn't feel able to concentrate on my channel. It was a very difficult time for me, which ended with the loss of a loved one. At the time I didn't feel able to face the world and needed time to grieve. Time has passed and I feel ready to get back into youtube again. I hope you like the video.

For real lol. I have a few cool ecospheres both aquatic and terrestrial that are about 6 months old that I'd love to post on youtube, but I can NOT for the life of me get anything to stay in focus lol. These darn android cameras seem to want to autofocus on whatever takes up the majority of the screen rather than focus on small objects lol.

This is looking to be one of the most successful seacospheres ive ever seen, you look to have struck a great balance. An idea for another project could be a winter ecosphere, I never seem to be able to have any success with ecospheres made around this time, maybe you could have some better luck :)

I find the winter ecospheres to be usually successful, but there’s just less life as there would be in the summer or spring. I did find a couple new and unique creatures though.

@@lifeuncovered6188 I think what happens with me is the lack of sunlight coupled with the ecosphere still balancing out just after being built. It usually ends up with just a thick layer of algae on the glass.

For a moment I thought you meant making an ecosphere that you kept at winter temps and was wondering how you were doing that. Started thinking about using a lower temp freezer with a clear door. I then realized what you meant lol.
YOU'RE BACK!! Sorry to hear your life has taken such a difficult turn. I'm glad you've taken the time you needed, and I hope things go a little more smoothly for you going forward.
Today is a good day when Jartopia uploads.
my favorite channel is back. Thanks to you, i have made an own Ecosphere and its beautiful now with orange ramshorns, lots of amphipods, leeches and a large ostracod population. Also 6 different plant species inside. Thanks for showing this to me and keep up the good work bro !

Welcome back. No apologies needed. I know how it feels to lose loved ones. I’m sure you have the love and support of all your viewers
I was stoked to see this pop up in my notifications
I'm so sorry to learn about your loss, mate. We are all feeling it with you. Keep going! Much love from South Africa.
Glad your back ! cant wait for the upcoming vids.
Thanks for coming back!
I like how these videos bring up philosophical questions, such as where one sees a jar of piss, another sees ECOSPHERE! It's fascinating!
Seeing all this salt-water life in such a tiny ecosphere was amazing.
Thank you for making these videos. Not only are they incredibly interesting and fascinating, but the way they are filmed and edited, along with the music, really puts me in a calm, good mood. It's always a treat when one of your videos appears in my feed!
Wow you're back! Hope you're feeling better. 🌺
That Ostracod would go completely missed if you were at the beach. You'd assume it were a grain of sand. 3:22
So happy to see you back!!! Last I heard you had covid and then nothing so I feared the worst. Much love! This is one of my favorite channels!
Wow so happy to see you're posting again! Welcome back. Love your vids
So glad to see an update from you. Hope you're doing much better.
I just discovered this channel a couple of days ago and I have already watched all the videos on here! Thank you for all the amazing content!
It's great to have you back! There were awful rumours going around but I'm glad they turned out to be false. Sorry for your loss and I hope you will heal in time.
So glad your back Jartopia. I’m really sorry to hear about your family member. Take all the time you need to break when you need to; we can wait! Glad to have ya back though 😃
My condolences to you and your family. Always great to see something new from your jars. Your camera work and the music go perfectly together. Thank you for sharing and good to hear you are well my friend.

I always love your videos, they’re so relaxing and have gotten me into Ecosphere building for the past few months! I just finished my pond habitat and I’m so excited to see how it goes!
Happy to hear from you again, Jartopia! Keep your head up high friend, you're a great inspiration for us here :D My heart goes out to you and the family! You're in our prayers, and may your deceased loved one find lasting peace

I've missed you!! Thank you for this wonderful video.
Hey dude, so glad you are alive. We were talking about you in one of the group's I follow and everyone was concerned. Welcome back!
I've just found your channel and I'm already in love with how calming and educational your videos are. Thankyou for sharing. I'd love to attempt a jar with my children.
So glad you are back
Great to have you back, buddy. But please take it easy, and take all the time you need to recover.
Wow, this is such an amazing growth! Do the snails have any predators? I'm just worried they might have too high of a population and end up eating all ofthe algae too quickly 😟

very sorry for your loss great video great job
Amazing work man
Cool! The small worms are so cute! The snails rule! And all of the creatures are so cool!
Good to see you again!
Holy COW. This may just be your most successful jar yet!
You're better? I missed you at that time, it's great see you here again :)
That shot of the isopod is very cool and I love him.
welcome back, jartopia!
Good to see a video, thanks :)
You and your channel rock
These videos are so fascinating… I almost want to begin creating jarred ecosystems!
New video? Wow, nice job. I like this ecosphere. It's easy to made, but very interesting. Be healthy! What are you feeling now? 🤔 5:00 - it's so CUTE!
I am an aspiring microbiologist and these videos are basically my future job, keeping strange organisms in replica ecosystems for maintained observation. Its amazing content to watch and i hope you very little trouble making the next.
A tiny alien world... thanks for showing us such a sight! loved the isopod doing zoomies for food lol
I'm glad to see you back to content, it's a shame all that happened to you and you had to take so much time off. All the videos are so time specific too so it really throws things off. I'm curious to see where all the other ecosphere's are at too whenever they reach a new date goal. at least assuming they still have enough interesting changes for 1.5 or 2 year update videos to be worth it.
Wow! You still have them!
The return of the king!

i hope in a few decades we get new videos on your new jars. i deem especially the long time survival interesting.

Mesmerizing 🤩
What audio did you use in this video?? It’s amazing!
That's better than national geographic documentaries!
Amazing stuff, would love to see if you could incorporate some sort of mushroom species into one of these!
That’s amazing

Hey! I love your vídeos! And I'm trying to make my own ecosphere in my apartament but i tried to use Macro and the result isn't to good. Which equipament do you use? Thanks!!
in my freshwater pond ecosphere the worms just wiggle around half in the sand half out without a care in the world. Guess they're pretty lucky to not have any predators around
Wow this is amazing. Do you need a constant source of light for these projects, i.e. a lamp that is always turned on above?
Hi, hope you're doing well! Take all the time you need. I was wondering what level of 'strength' your scope is? I'm looking to buy one with a similar zoom as your camera.
you show us a world within a world....Feel better....
Seeing your videos always make me wish I could go inside and explore in a shrunk down submarine. >.< but need to avoid predators :'
How do you zoom in so well? Do you use a camera? I was considering getting a magnifying glass but wasn't sure if that would work, any advice would be greatly appreciated 😊
You may want to go back and find the dude that kept saying you were dead and ban him from commenting if possible. Just saying dude. Guy's got some serious issues. Love your uploads, please keep them coming at your own pace.
a world inside a glass. almost alien. love it.
So I am curious how you keep these things living. I always seem to have a collapse of the ecosystem within a few weeks of having it. I don't know if I am doing the tempature wrong, the plant type wrong, or if there is just something special you need to do.

Oxygen maybe?
I'm really interested in what equipment you use for filming. I took a short video of my 2 month old ecosphere today, using my smartphone. I encountered the dreaded autofocus issue. I have a SD compact camera with macro function and I'm wondering if that would be more reliable.
what camera do you use for close-up shots?
Can I ask you how you are filming such tiny organisms without a microscope? Last time I've observed copepods it was through a microscope lens with a drop of sea water, but it's so small that I wonder how you can just film them "on the go" like this, tell meeee please Amazing stuff otherwise, glad to see the evolution, imma gonna make a sea jar and a earth jar, thanksss
wonderful! for it to not get rotten you just have to add seaweed? i want to try also, thank you!
Did you add the snails in yourself or were they in there from when you first collected from the beach?
Just a quick question, how did you get the little snails in there? i wanna make one of these and i think the easiest way is to get some sand and throw it into a jar with seaweed. but i thought "if i did that i wont get any seasnails. just tiny little micro organisms". how did you get the snails? just curious
