Creating a Seasonal Wetland Ecosphere! │INSTANT LIFE and RARE Copepods!

In this video we create an ecosphere from a Seasonal Wetland. These habitats are known for flooding during the winter months and then dry up during the summer months.
Due to the seasonal changes within this habitat they tend to support greater biodiversity and specialized species. The aquatic species go into dormancy every summer when their water source dries out. Adult organisms and eggs hide within the soil. They then wait for rain to flood the grassland and create pools.
I was very surprised to see Epibiotic Algae growing on some of the copepods. Being able to capture such a thing on video is something I didn't think I'd ever have the opportunity to do. The relationship between epibiotic organisms and their host are poorly understood and rarely studied, which is why I think it's so cool to have some in this ecosphere.
There was a lot of other organisms I failed to capture for the video. I also believe new organisms will pop up in future update videos. The sheer number of species I've seen is astounding! This video was a mammoth task to create. If you liked it show me some love in the comments! :)

I’m thinking that the critters are green because they’ve been in an environment where lots of chlorophyll was being produced when the area dried out. Open field, lots of sunshine-> green microbiota. It’s fascinating the Interconnectedness of the whole system. I’m really glad that I found this channel. I’m stuck inside the house due to health issues and I’ve been going nuts. You have inspired me to try some new adventures! I have three outdoor ponds in livestock watering tanks but there’s very limited vegetation in them yet. I’d like to get some cold hardy aquatic plants in them to increase their biodiversity. Then I could build ecospheres to bring inside for the winter.

I’ve watched a few of your videos and I’m so jealous of you being able to find those tiny clams! I’d love to find some here in the us for my aquarium!

I love these videos mainly because of the creature/microscopic science that I learn from here. To be honest you need to make more of these videos and I hope that one day you will become a famous scientist. :)

The mechanism for dispersal of some clam and mussle species is that the larva attach to the gills of fish, becoming almost a parasite until they are large enough to release and attach to the substrate. That's my guess for what happened to the mite.

How do I learn more about the flora and fauna at this level? Are there any good books you can refer. Simply amazing!

I have a few ecospheres, but my most lively one is from water in my field, one day I got a mason jar and filled it up with water and plant leaves. After looking in it a couple hours later I could immediately tell why my dog would itch after running around in the water. There were thousands of tiny things swimming around in the water. Later they grew into worms, then they turned into flies. A few months later I decided to check up on it again, there are now hundreds of tiny animals swimming around it it again. I think they were transported into the water by ducks, they swim in the water all the time.
