In greek folk singing we do very similar semitones riffs and head voice like they do in traditional Indian singing, that's why they sound alike, in general we have a lot of similarities in music, marina satti does a lot of folk style singing in her songs, it's very much greek

Marina is a musical multi-tool with influences from east and west, a well-known singer in Greece deeply knowledgeable about music, a soprano herself with a lot of experience in music, who likes to (successfully) experiment!!!

For those who didn't understand, Marina is a tour guide who picked up the German tourist with socks and sandals from the airport and gives him a guided tour of Athens together with other tourists who join her tour, where she actually introduces them to the stereotypical Greece alongside the real Greece. A simple genius idea. Her postcard to Europe at the end of the song is also perfect.

The "Indian" part, is actually "Miroloi" which is a way of traditional singing. Widow's would sing for their fallen family members during war mostly, and it's in high pitch, with a combination of crying. Extremely difficult, of the highest pitches/Khz, but if someone can slay it, its Marina Satti

The intro is actually a greek style of singing called “moiroloi”, i think the english word for it is dirge, but sound wise it’s also similar to what you said.
