MARIN DSX 1 REVIEW : One Year On !

MARIN DSX 1 REVIEW : One Year On. I've had the Marin DSX 1 for about a year now and wanted to share my review of how it's been going ! It's truly an amazing bike. Super comfortable and with a great 11-51 rear set and a one by up front. Really does it all for the riding I do which covers asphalt, gravel, dirt and tree roots. I ride up and down the Danube along the Euro Velo 6 and really want to do that trail end to end one day !

    Hello Sir, You have done a nice review of the DSX1. Currently I am considering to buy this bike because i ride on a MTB marin bobcat trail 4. I am thinking of change since most of my riding time i spend on going to work (100% city with pavements) and some short travels with my dog (i think it may be called gravel and light forest roads), i think i ride around 60 km per week. Do you think it would be a good choice to replace MTB marin bike over this DSX 1. Thank you in advance for your response, greetings from Poland.

    Thanks for you comments. If you don’t plan on doing serious mountain biking then switching might be a good idea for you. This bike is certainly lighter and , in my opinion, very agile for commuting on mixed surfaces. Also has plenty of places to connect bags. I just really enjoy the bike !

    Great review. These are available here in Japan, but they are the same price as a Sirrus X 4.0. Not sure which one is better value. The Marin is a 2022 model while the Sirrus is a 2024.

    I think they are similar but…. The DSX is about one kilo lighter and the rear cassette on the DSX is 11-51 while the Sirrus is 11-46.

    I've been using this bike since this season. The bike is sensational. Its geometry allows you to enter the forest and go wild like an MTB bike. A bike for every ride. However, it has its drawbacks. As you said, the bolt in the front axle came loose and I almost lost the front wheel. Maybe it was not tightened after assembly? I do not know. The fact is, she unscrewed, and that was weak. Now it is tightened and has no slack. The biggest downside is the hopeless crank. You can always replace it with a better one. I am super happy with this bike and I can recommend it to the undecided.

    Great comment! I hope marin is listening on the front axle bolt issue. I carry an Allen wrench with me on every ride just in case it loosens. It’s not the terrain I’m on since none of it is chunky enough to cause this. Also I’d assume front and rear would both have the issue. I’ll reach out to Marin and see what they say.

    @@TravelsWithTony It only happened once in the front wheel. I tightened to the max - being careful not to overtighten the thread. Now everything is ok. I check from time to time to make sure it hasn't come loose. I can't complain right now. In general, however, I have the impression that once all bicycle forms were made by more decent components and the bicycles themselves. Overall, the geometry of the bike is great and it rides great.

    Thanks for the review. I am trying to decide between trek ds 3 gen 5 and Marin dsx1. But I am unable to find a direct comparison. Would you be so kind to give your opinion regarding main differences between those 2 bikes? Which would be more suited for what purpose.

  • @TravelsWithTony

    @TravelsWithTony

    7 ай бұрын

    Hi ! I wasn't familiar with the Trek DS3 Gen 5 so I looked it up. Looks like a really nice bike. I see some similarities. Both are one-by and both have a nice carbon fork. The Trek has beefier tires at 50mm. The DSX1 comes standard with 45mm. The weight is a little different with the Trek being heaving by more than 1.5 kg. None of these points are a huge factor but it alsways comes down to where you think you will ride more. If more urban rides, the 50mm might be too much. If more hills, the extra weight of 1.5 kg and the extra rolling resistance of the fatter tire may hold you back a little. The new DSX1 for 2024 can be reviewed at the Marin Bikes web site. They show a new color scheme, and and Deore 5100 rear derailleur vs the Trek Deore 4100. Also, the Marin DSX 1 is listing in the US at $999, while the Trek is listing at $1,049. I can't say which is better since I haven't ridden the Trek. I know I have been super happy with my Marin for the past 18 months. Hope this helps you, and let me know what you decide.

    My main focus is comfort. So I thought which would be more comfortable - 700c Marin or 650c trek with a slightly fatter tyre. Although as I understand Marin is already quite comfortable bike. Trek is also heavier, not sure why.

    Hi, and thanks for the feedback. A strange one. The issue no longer happens. My technician tightened it very hard and used a spray. The downside is that when I had a flat tire it was really challenging to loosen the bolt. But otherwise it is fine now and I love the bike.
