A very inspiring speech from a wonderful conductor, who must indeed be honoured to have been able to conduct in an annual feast of music which has become a great British institution. Long live the Proms!

Was this night ever released on DVD? I saw part of it on tv and really liked it, but didn't have the time to watch it in full - have been looking for it since. Many proms concerts are uploaded here on KZread, but not this one.

That horn got annoying fast. Excellent speech.

What do we do with bad, really bad female conductors? Well, we say they are just great!!!!!!

Stupid. Marin Alsop Baltimore Sao Paulo. Devoted to education, runs programs for poor kids to learn classical music. Directed Cabrillo Festival 25 years modern music. Can swing, loves Brahns Mahler . Accomplished and not elitist, and totally devoted to the survival of classical music. NOT greedy doesn't behave like a celebrity She is top drawer.
