I have a few drops of English blood, though all in all I am Dutch -with many other drops inside of me- LNotP is always a MUST for me, always an ocean of tears (emotions) for one reason or another. This 2020 version will go down in history for its difference I am sure. In my heart I truly hope that in 2021 one can return to "as usual" but my compliments to BBC, the Orchestra, the Choir, the fabulous soprano -You'll Never Walk Alone brought a tear though not included here, it was beautiful- and certainly to the very energetic and driven conductor! Greetings from Amsterdam!

Sad you had to add that caveat about 'not being a racist or extremist'. It should be obvious that one doesn't have to be one to be the other. God Bless you for being a proud Brit, and I'm not British. Love the Proms and I wish Canada aired it. Wonderful to see all the traditional music being played and sung so proudly after the recent BBC wokeness that didnt even want Rule Brittannia played or sung. Wonderful to hear pure patriotism again. @@leonardoiglesias2394 Rule Brittania is a demand to rule the waves. You can look for hidden meanings in the lyrics but on the face of it, there are no racist lines or references to the empire. Today, the UK is one of the most multicultural and inclusive societies on Earth. Racism exists here of course but it's less prevalent than in the majority of other countries, even in Europe, and certainly the UK is much less racist than countries like Argentina for example. Times have changed and things can take on new meaning. Take St. Patrick for example. He forced Christian conversion upon the indeginous Celts of Ireland with the threat of violence, and actually killed many Druid priests who refused to convert. Now they celebrate him!

Not a britons myself, but its a huge relief for me when they finally come to their senses to include the lyrics! It has nothing to do with extremism or racism, it's just pure patriotism and pride. Great job!

@@kenlandon6130 Unless you're referring to the international advance that the British empire spurred, I'm not sure what you mean by, "all that it did." Everything that the British touched with their presence eventually became great. Plus, I don't see why the British Empire should be singled out as being inherently bad, unless it's because British people are white, which seems very racist to me.

It's been a GREAT many years since I attended the last night and can still recall the excitement of us all singing Land of Hope and Glory!

I feel relieved that Rule Britannica was performed despite earlier controversies. Bravo.

I'm an Indian but have great admiration for the English traditions. Contrary to what some of my own would have us believe, they are the most pragmatic people I've come across. Love you for what you are and standing up for yourself!

The conductor's expression is what attracts me to this performance all the time. The pure joy you see on her face brings me happiness and an escape from my depression. God bless her.

Bravo,bravo, bravo. So wonderful to see and watch this Last Night and that the by now standard repertoire was maintained. Tradition, tradition, tradition, more important now, than ever before under these unprecedented circumstances. Thank goodness common sense prevailed, it would not be the Last Night without that glorious music. As an old Prom regular from the 60`s, quite difficult to watch without the unique atmosphere created by thousands of people, but so pleased it went ahead, and thank you for uploading, from a country far, far away :)

The BBC never thought of banning the Last Night at the Proms. That is ridiculous. All that was considered was instrumental music to avoid possible infection via the choir. The resolved the issue and it remains beautiful. Thus, shut up.

Thanks to the BBC. I am glad they did not allow this dam virus to defeat them. Also, they listened to all those that enjoy the traditional music and songs, if people do not like them they have the option of turning off. I love them.

I miss that traditional clown balloon someone always lets off during the hornpipe :( im 26 and have been watching the LNoftP since the age of 8. Just glad we still had one this year...

Took a tour of the Royal Albert Hall in October, 2019 and was the highlight of my trip over there. Seeing it in person was outstanding and quite informative as was the guide. My thanks to the British people for the wonderful time I had in London..

I like the "ornaments" to the hornpipe and the clips of the audience in their homes and the park - and the Chelsea Pensioners. Well done to the orchestra and chorus for their efforts in such conditions.

Thanks for your post. Yes I would like to see the concert entirely, please. And congratulations to everyone who made it possible!

Utterly marvellous. In these times the BBC comes through again. I do love the Benjamin Britten arrangement of "God Save the Queen." It seems so apt with its gently thoughtful first verse then leading into an exultant second verse. Bravo.

Last year I have been to the Proms himself for my first time, a childreen dream came true. It makes me cry watching this broadcast. When this pandemic is over I will come back to the Proms and this great country.😢why did you leave the EU, still cant understand it.

I have been to the Holocaust’s 75th Anniversary event in London before covid and I was only 17 at the time and I’m 21 now. I loved how respectful everyone was singing God save the Queen whilst I was having a breakdown during it but I was singing too. It was nice that we gave our Holocaust victims the send off they deserved

God Bless them, and their voices, representing us all.

I have been attending to many last night´s of the the proms in the good old times. But this ist really outstanding - love it. Keep on the good work.

From what I remember at the time, everyone was so depressed about lockdown after lockdown after lockdown that although it was not an essential thing, it was decided to put on a limited version of Last Night to raise the public spirit... Not only did they have the traditional "dropped a few notes" by some of the players, they even had the horns which you can tell took some of the performers by surprise and delighted them

It really was strange without that massive audience all over over the nation that we usually see. We however had a magnicificent time and the music was fantistic of course.

Would have been nice (IMO) to see the musicians in the last very fast part. Always enjoy watching them sawing away and clearly having fun...

A remarkable performance, though I never hope to experience another! So far I witnessed our Dutch 4th of May, the Remembrance Festival from TRBL and Remembrance Sunday in a setting that was impressive and eerie! But even more surreal than (even I) could have ever imagined!

Thanks BBC and orchestra and singers and the fab light show over London. I can’t understand the fuss over the words of Rule Britannia, far out history is history and we just accept it otherwise we would irradiate most of the past! Cheers Melbourne Oz in lockdown.

This is why I’m a proud ENGLISHMAN we have a land of hope and glory a land of the free during a pandemic it wasn’t the land of the free but the land of togetherness and vigilance to a virus that’s made almost a million lose a loved one a nhs that was understaffed care homes who was understaffed and both professions with the hardest challenges of there entire lives and our careers and livelihoods either demolished or put under such strain so this was a fitting end and now this is a new land of hope and definitely glory

The poor old Beeb comes in for some stick these days but this is one time when they did, eventually, get it right. A socially distanced orchestra playing through traditional tunes was right for the moment & hopefully gave audiences at home a bit of a lift.

Seems like the pros are more concentrated and spot-on without a live audience.

Finally for once I can enjoy the nice music with no noises and hecklings!

It's just not the same LNotP without a bunch of people in the audience blowing horns during Jack's the Lad. Not that the noiseless version isn't better, mind you, but it's not as "traditional." They might as well have left out (Farewell and Adieu) Spanish Ladies. (Yes, I am aware that they got rid of it years ago, but it was replaced with "regional" songs that were also left out.) And I have to wonder if the crowd of people watching from elsewhere followed it up with an improptu (or two, or 26 that eventually merged into one) a cappella version of Auld Lang Syne.

There is something about the Royal Albert Hall's organ that sets the hair on my arm and back of my neck stand on end.

Once again, Less is more! Special thanks to the lady (I don't know her name) who plays the trombone wich such enthousiasm.

It is an uncomfortable truth that empires are built on wars and conquest. I consider this music to be the most healing result. Both England and America have been in the war business for far too many years. It is well past time to turn those swords into plowshares. What an inspiring, uplifting occasion this is! And thank you so much for including the words. I sang along with great joy
