Marilyn Michaels on The Hollywood Palace
Музыка
Here's Marilyn on The Hollywood Palace in 1964 doing impersonations of Ethel Merman, Connie Francis, Judy Garland and of course Barbra Streisand. The host was Donald O'Connor. Marilyn was to later tour with the Streisand show "Funny Girl" after she had left it.

A brilliant performance and talent from the past.....we have nothing like this today, but these classic clips!
It takes a great performer, with perfect pitch, to do what Marilyn Michaels does. She's a true talent and deserves every accolade! Would be wonderful to see her on stage, again!
Marilyn Michael's is probably the most underrated performer of all time. Her talent is off the hook. She's the only performer I can put in league with the great Frank Gorshin. Their skill and presentation was beyond belief, she was sooo great.
Brilliant! Nobody could pull this off today, simply because there are no great, larger than life artists to do impressions of. She's also a very good singer in her own right.
There's never been a better singing impressionist, male or female, ever. Giant talent.
Not only is Ms Michaels a fabulous singer, she's one-heck-of-a-nice person! Love you, Marilyn!

also one beautiful woman !
See boys and girls, this was a time where entertainers were actually talented!
Excellent post - very fun. Streisand did FUNNY GIRL in London, but she did not do the national tour. The year-long tour had Marilyn Michaels playing Fanny for the entire run.
What a talent! Not enough recognition! She really was brilliant! Who could make impressions an Art form. And the voice! What an instrument! I love you Marilyn wherever you are! Hope you see this!
I defy anyone to name a performer anywhere near as talented as the incomparable Marilyn Michaels. She could do ANY woman's voice and add just the proper degree of subtle elements in dead-on impersonations, plus sing exactly like the greatest chanteuses of the age. An incredible talent. No one has come close to her talent in almost 50 years. An absolute genius of a performer.
i just discovered her now. and i'm thoroughly impressed.
So cute..an absolute doll ! Love her.
I am loving my new discovery today watching all of this amazingly talented singer's clips. Truly an amazing voice.
Somehow lost in these great impressions is the fact that she had her own terrific voice.
WOW, brilliant voice in her own right, and those impressions are extraordinary 👏
She is so talented......... She was so popular in the late 60's, and seem to fade away over night.
Aside from the gesticulation, she actually managed to LOOK like Barbara Streisand, somehow. It was eerie!
She was so damn good at impressions 👍
Marilyn's dead-on impressions of Streisand and Garland not only parody the physical affectations of those singers, but their vocal affectations as well. I thought she was terrific in 1964. And nearly sixty years later, her performance are still a delight. She also sings very well in her own voice and deserved broader recognition for her enormous talent.

I feel she never got the Accord that was due her as usual it always went to the men some years ago I worked with her she didn't very often do men but she could do them wonderful lady giant Talent
Pure talent. She has what we call “the total package”. There was one other woman Joan Rivers(now deceased) who had the wit Marilyn Michaels possessed. She broke a lot of barriers!!... love me some Marilyn Michaels 😎
Marilyn was, and is now "off the charts with impersonate singing, not a easy at all.
What talent! Marilyn Michaels BECOMES the singer she's impersonating in voice, expressions and the movements of her arms and body stature.
I remember her. She is amazing.
A great piece of musical and cultural history. Her versatility is remarkable. Lesser known performers should not be forgotten.
Marilyn Michaels, one of my all-time favorite Impressionist artists.

Her Garland was TERRIBLE. She tried, and got the dramatics, but the voice didn't sound a thing like Judy's.
Marilyn is Fantastic. So good and so funny too. Thanks for sharing!
she nails barbra's mannerisms from the 60's!! and i'm the biggest babs fan out there, and i just find it hysterical!
even the best impressionist cannot duplicate Judy's voice but she was dead on with all the impressions.
OMG, What a Talent !!!!
Marilyn Michaels set the bar for all female impressionists for years to come - she has a superb singing voice - and a vast range of characters - we didn't get her in the UK. Ckeck out her other vids
what a thing to impersonate barbra in 1964---she was so new on the scene! god i love marilyn michaels, fantastic video :P babs4ever, Gina
Gilbert sent me here too. This lady is awesome! Great interview with Gilbert and Frank. Very funny lady!
And here I am, in my 50's, thinking i could never fall in love again. How *wrong* could I be... 💜 💙 💗
Marilyn is an absolute sweetheart with a personality of gold! I'm so happy for her success, she deserves every bit of it :)
I completely adore her
Man, such a great set of hips! She must have been so fun to be around!!!

Marilyn Miichaels spot on impressions!
Wonderful performance!
You gotta be kidding!!! Her Judy impression was great. I've seen her do a better impersonation of Barbra, but this one is still pretty good.
FANTASTIC!!!
Marilyn Michaels!! Fantastic!
I’m not familiar with Marilyn Michaels ( this would have aired probably around when I was five years old-1964) but she is amazing! The Connie Frances imitation was perfect!
She does it well.
I've seen her impersonate Connie on TV a few times. I think Babs, Connie, an dJudy are her most frequent performances.
TALENT!
1964?!!? How far back does she go?? I'm utterly astonished!
If I remember correctly, she also used to impersonate Dinah Shore, Diana Ross, and Lena Horne. This was before there was a ban on White performers appearing in "blackface". But Marilyn's impersonations of Diana and Lena were excellent!!!
What a genius!
Not only did Marilyn do the singing voices, she also conquered their speaking voices. Much harder to do than guys like Rich Little who only did the speaking voice. And she continued to mimic female celebrities into the 70s & 80s like Dr. Ruth, Sally Jessy Raphael, Lily Tomlin etc.
FABULOUS
Yes you're correct - from what I understand (imdb) there were 5 shows made with other impressionists (Rich Little etc) and cameo appearances from celebrities like Orson Welles and Frank "Riddler" Gorshin. Can't say I remember it though.. at least not as well as the 70s Brit version "Who Do You Do?" with Fredie Starr, etc. Thanks for the info - she's still fantastic
This is just Wonderful
She was one of the stars of the copycats with Frank gorshin, George kerby, rich little . A funny show which for some strange reason did not last 1 full season. One show which should have been a big hit. Great great talent.
something nobody knows about Marilyn Michaels: she was the daughter of one of the most famous Cantors of the 20th Century, the incomparable Moishe Oysher (1906--1958); not only a great Cantor, but a major international star of the worldwide Yiddish theatre in Europe, South America, and on Second Ave. on New York's Lower East Side during the 1920's through to the 50's. He gave concerts in theatres throughout the world, even Carnegie Hall in NYC. He also starred in four all Yiddish movies, filmed in Poland during the 1930's before the outbreak of WW II. Few people knew of him outside of the Yiddish speaking world. His most famous film, "Overture to Glory," was basically a Yiddish version of "The Jazz Singer," which starred Al Jolson, and was the first "talkie," i.e. the first motion picture with sound. GREAT:)
It's hard to find Kopy Kats these days!
Critical critical critical, if anyone today can outdo Mrs. Michaels then let em step up! Check out her brief performance on Ed Sullivan from 1968, she did very well!
Marilyn Michaels does fun impressions, but they're not all "on the money" - some sound pretty close though - and she certainly has a fine voice all on her own -
Didn’t she do a touring company of funny girl?

yes
Although she doesn't sound exactly like Ethel, Judy or Barbra she sure does get the essence. She sounds like Connie Francis tho. She has a wonderful range and is fun to watch.
Hey, the Judy voice wasn't that bad! Sounds like the older (1964) Judy!
This lady _already_ reminds me of André-Philippe Gagnon (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9-Philippe_Gagnon)
She is so good that the intro to ger impressions aren't necessary.
Gilbert Gottfried sent me here.

yup, me too
when she said "ladies and gentlemen, the new funny girl, miss barbra streisand" she sounded exactly like lois nettleton. but that was an accident.
If that's a compliment,I would be mildly curious to hear your critique...
Imagine doing these people today. Nobody under 70 would even have a clue who she’s been imitating. Sad.
Do you think so? How could anyone not know who Connie is?
Drag queens suck. Marilyn was the real deal. The only good female impressionist ever. And she had real musical talent. Her pitch was better than most of the women she imitated.
Totally agree. And the last few notes of 'Streisands' were pretty painful as well.
Oh, and I apologize regarding the "idiot" comment...
Niece of the great Jewish canto Moishe 0ysher…
Most of her impressions are quite good, with the exception of Garland. Doesn't sound like her at all...

I agree! bob in Toronto
her merman is too nasal and her judy weak, connie & streisand really close...she sounds less shrill than streisand does on the top notes, marilyn does them better. i think her streisand got better as the years passed. i think she is a wonderful singer on her own and the impressions are an added bonus. i have all her albums and although the arrangements are not so good, her singing is always excellent.
We prefer Miss Craig Russell
Lousy Garland interpretation, why? Judy could not be duplicated!
Talented she is -- but her Garland really is WEAK!
She had to use her voice because her looks are the pits. Not much too say about her nasally Jewish voice either cause she had to make it off the voices of other stars.
