For any big Taxi fans out there, the interesting thing about the clip they played is that it appears to contain a line that was cut from the actual broadcast, when Alex asks her if Zifka has a last name she replies "Zabaloplop", I double checked and that isn't there in the final edit.

This clip reminds me of January 16, 1964. I was home from school. It was 3:24 PM. I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. First, I put on the peanut butter. For the most part, they cut their teeth doing stage acting and many still did Summer Stock theatre when their sitcoms were in summer reruns. In other words, many were “working actors” and took on the philosophy that they must understand people and how people interacted with each other. I think now, there is a narcissistic thing going on where it’s about the continual promotion of a face/ego. Now, there were certainly Divas back in the day (Elizabeth Taylor, etc.) but that existed in its own odd territory in the acting world and it was pretty rarified…and it wasn’t always a compliment.

My guess is that she found him to be exhausting and his insistence on trolling everybody probably came across as selfish and rude. I can see her point. I would feel the same. It is one thing to troll the world because that is your schtick, but to inflict that 16 hours a day on your fellow professional actors is not necessary.

I doubt she or the cast did. They probably die a little inside everytime they have to pretend he is now a "genius". He was weird and rude, and could be argued harassed the cast under the weird guise it was his Tony Clifton character, then gaslight them pretending they were not the same people. As the guy above said..how exhausting that had to be. What the cast says now about Kaufman is 100% being classy and not speaking ill of the dead and bringing up the bad past.

Do you know that Ms Marilu Henner has the capacity to remember EVERYTHING from when she was a child up to the present day ? Its called a Superior Autobiographical Memory ! For example she can tell what day it was on September 18 th 1964 without reference to a calendar ? She can tell you what she had for dinner on Saturday February 4 th 1973 as another example ? What colour of clothes and which clothes she was wearing on other dates and what the headlines were in the news on all days gone by ? I believe that under 20 people on earth have this otherworldly gift ? I wish i was one of them ...what a life ! PS ..remembering lines for a movie would be a doddle for Ms Henner !

This is really early and this was very stiff. Letterman was still new and you could see it. Talk about an awkward interview. LOL And Andy Kaufman was a weirdo. The bad stories about him are a lot. Jim Carrey thought he was a genius though and did a movie about him like 25 years ago where everyone showered praise of Kaufman. They even got the Taxi cast to be in the movie by dumping a ton of money on them. And I guarantee they all probably wanted to die pretending that they all loved the guy for that movie and thought he was a "genius" too. None of them did, at all. Only because he died young and the cast was classy that they never dumped on him publicly, other than the veiled things you see here.

He was NOT a good interviewer back then. People sometimes forget when even legends start out, they are not good from the get go. I think he merely thought he would bring up all the cast as questions and had no idea she hated Kaufman. He was not prepared, had nothing to say to her and the comments he tried to make that were supposed to be funny landed like a dud.

So wrong. Yes, Dave tried too hard early on. But here he was spot on. Her immediate avoidance of wanting to talk about Andy, changed the script. Everybody was like wait, what and now wanted to know more.

He didn’t. The fact SHE was clearly avoiding AK peaked Dave interest. That’s obvious.

Easy to answer, he isn't. Jim Carrey thought he was and made a movie about him and gave him unwarranted praise. Mostly because he knew he was good at playing Kaufman and it was a vanity project.
