And she has used her fame to bring up so many new artists. She was the first to do a pop & hip-hop collaboration back when nobody did that. The people Mariah "shades" are generally either shady to her first or they are the types of people who think they can run with the big dogs without having proven themselves first. You may not have been alive then, but MC had like 10 number 1's and 100 million in albums sold at the time of Divas Live, and it wasn't her out there trying to upstage the actual Queen Aretha Franklin.

She’s inspired too many artists to name and created musical and vocal trends that have shaped pop and R&B music to this very day. She is the blueprint for sooooo many artists. Nicki is successful and an icon, nobody is arguing that. But imo Mariah’s shade wasn’t a worthless drag when 1) Nicki didn’t have a #1 at the time, 2) It took 7 years post that scene for her to get it, and 3) It’s a feature/remix, not an original #1 solo hit. Mariah is one of the biggest names in music. Only Michael Jackson was on the same "Success" par as Mariah. So for Nicki to try and be-little Mariah, I think is very rude. Mariah has received the respect of the music industry for 25 years, so I don't think some rap star should try and take that away. People can say Mariah is a 90's star all they want, but Mariah has had success up to 2010. Since having #DemBabies Mariah has been more focussed on being a mother, so obviously her career has taken a down fall. So before you all start saying Mariah's rude and she's a "diva" just remember, Mariah is a legend. If Mariah had something to say about your singing, you shut up and listen.

what a truthful statement with an amazing meaning. and I agree if anybody was to teach or tell me how I should sing it would definitely be Mariah Carey. She hasn't been in the business 25 years for nothing this woman knows, and has what it take so take notes and listen damn well Nicki couldn't even sell me soap..... Mariah is still onE of the biggest names in music history within our generation if you could take the queen of soul, and gospel , Whitney Houston the voice and mix them all together you'd have Mariah Carey she's still the best female recording artist, an holds the more hot 100 number one hits than any other female recording artist which means she out beat Whitney Houston r.i.p. Although many love her and she was super popular as well with a Powe house voice

+junpthenfall0006 I agree with his statement, i feel like in terms of if you just looked at these music stars just on paper without us knowing their impact because we lived it and was like an outsider who had never heard of any of these people and was just looking at it in terms of success and career, I think someone could say that mariah is on par with the beatles, elton john and michael jackson. Im saying if we just looked at their careers on paper and all the sales and records and stuff and in terms of hits and longevity, she is on par with them in my opinion

The fact that Nicki chose to use Mariah's critique as a time to find "her moment," is in VERY poor taste. At the very least, she should have sat silently and RESPECTFULLY (as all of the other judges did) until Mariah's critique was finished. The fact that she couldn't do that speaks to Nicki's level of immaturity, and lack of human development. We ALL have our moments and times to shine; but it's NOT during someone else's moment. Basic manners. Common sense.

I would think her to be more qualified than Ellen Degenras... Who, if you can remember, a judge for a season. Can ask the same about why J-Lo was a judge when she wasn't that good of a singer either. Simon cannot sing worth a lick, but he was a judge. I am pretty sure you dont have to be a singer, to judge the show....
