@@Tkimba2 you misunderstood what travmalav8267. Mariah has been making live performances even before but not tours as she feared the strain of singing her songs back-to-back. Another thing is that Mariah had a lot of stage freight at the early part of her career.

I remember reading one critic back in the day writing about how her music lacked emotion since she could sing everything from the lowest lows to the highest highs easily and perfectly without even trying. Like you just can't win with some people; someone actually criticized her for singing too well and a magazine published it.

@@iceescape Yeah, it was weird some critics literally hated that her voice was so perfect in the studio and said she was too over produced. Then she toned the production down and they said her voice was fake and that she oversang. She then toned the vocals down, the production down, and proved her voice was real, yet they said she was souless and lacked emotions. So the critics are just biased. She was 4 albums in and now that she has done everything they wanted, she can get Universal Aclaim.

That transition from full voice to whistle was inhuman

This song and "emotions" show the best parts of her whistle register skills with fast transitions. Correction : not fast but instant transitions from head voice to whistle.

I wish MTV would go back to this kind of format and showcase artist in this kind of light! Bring back MTV Unplugged!!!!

My goodness, this unplugged along with Nirvana had the most AMAZING arrangement. Mariah makes it look so fucking easy to sing those notes but once I dare to even try my voices cracks and cries for help. lmfao The chemistry between the back up singers and Mariah's vocals completely blew me away on how professional she was at such a young age !! True talent right there !

There are many incredible Unplugged albums from this era. Clapton Unplugged is another one that comes to mind with unique arrangements and unbelievable recording quality if you are into that music.

For me, the biggest and best music artist of all time. There will be never a singer like her. Time will pass and she will be still present. Many "singers" will come, but no one can NEVER be as legendary as her.

I totally agree with you... I've read someone's comment that said... there is a reason why you don't hear any artist try to cover MC's songs... you just can't because of her vocal abilities... but you hear a lot of people try to cover Whitney's songs... in my opinion... many don't fall too short of Whitney's songs and can do it justice... but if anyone tries to cover MC's songs... they fall short dramatically! I'm not saying Whitney is not a legend and doesnt have a great voice... because she obviously does.

*I* still *think* she's the best singer (not just female) to ever live. Wondering how the 2015 version will sound. it's magical the way it comes out of her voice. After that song she says "Ok that's enough of the high notes" lol. She tries again with Can't Let Go but her voice starts going out.

Alex L.A. Yes, but real music started from the 1800’s lol or even thousands of years and lasted up until the 2000’s then it declined. 90’s is still the real music and plus Mariah is the best! She could have more number #1 Hits than The Beatles, she has a lot of Top 10 Hits and she has 18#1 Hits and had a lot of songs that could have been number one plus she wrote and made music as SOLO ARTIST!

Mariah Carey's voice is so perfect, I find it impossible to get tired of her music! I know people call Whitney Houston The Voice and I sort of understand their reasoning cause I've listened to Whitney. But some of the things Mariah Carey can do vocally are more impressive to me.

I always felt her whistle notes were a treat to the audience like how a cat gets over stimulated and wants to bite it’s like Mariah feels the music and throws it out there 😭

Trey (on the left) still does backing for Mariah, and Trey has songs that Mariah has done backing for Trey under the pseudonym "Honey B. Fly." Melonie stayed with Mariah 1992-2003 until some creative differences happened, but at least she still talks humbly about Mariah unlike Kelly. Patrique Mcmillan (next to Trey) is in a techno/ethereal soul band trying to build up the music scene in Jacksonville, Florida. I don't know a thing about the four on the right.

No one will ever come close to how amazing Mariah sounds. Not in this life time. The performance has brought me through some rough times before. The whole MTV UNPLUGGED EP is simply top quality from the arrangement, the backing singers, the band and of course Mariah herself. Still as fresh now as it was then x

I just finished The Meaning of Mariah Carey. My granddaughter is named after Mariah Carey. To be honest I didn't want my granddaughter to be named after Mariah. I wouldn't have wanted her named after Celine or Whitney either. I just didn't want my granddaughter named after a superstar , I guess. My daughter gave me the book as a Christmas gift. She fell in love with Mariah when she was younger because she said she heard me listening to Mariah.At this moment and this day forward, I can honestly say I take so much pride in the fact my granddaughter is named after The Great Mariah Carey. Thank you Mariah for sharing your story

Legendary. Iconic. Goat. The vocal Trinity was special. You had to be there to understand how Mini, Whit and Celine shut heffas down on a daily basis with ONLY vocals.

I really like that raspyness and deep voice at the end. But that whistle just slayed. I think it could be her best Someday's whistle

The best direct in history. How many new music stars will this LP have influenced? Possibly the most influential live concert in history at the vocal level for future singers. @"It is the best selling MTV album in history." This is incorrect. Nirvana, Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart all outsold this album for MTV Unplugged albums. It's a great performance and I'm not knocking it, but acknowledge others while you're commending her.

@@crispinhandly6159 The only MTV album that is better selling than Mariah's is Eric Clapton's. Nirvana's album did not reach the sales or influence success that Mariah's did.

I just love rediscovering Mariah songs that I paid dust too and falling in love all over again. What a legend!

she's STILL a very good singer. regardless of your opinion, there is beyond proof she can still sing. it doesn't sound like 90's Mariah, but after 26 years in the business, it's beyond irrational to expect her to sound like she did in her prime. voices mature, and after all those whistles, my voice would already be beyond gone. she has done so much, and accomplished so much, people should be enjoying the fact that we have her still, unlike so many. some of you people are so simple minded.

Oh sure. I appreciate her. But her new music is nothing worth listening to. Adele kind of covers her tracks now with the sappy, soleful, music people still want to hear. I honestly just don't like the 'Diva' version of Mariah. She stopped singing of the struggles and heartaches that were relatable by many-The real stuff if you'd say. The glits and glammer she shows now, not everyone knows of. That's why she's slowly fading into the background like the rest of the old stars. That's my reasoning in why I said "in her younger years", I'm still a fan of hers' though. She's just 'meh' now.

Because she's a songwriter and producer herself. She wrote/co-wrote and produced/co-produced all of her song, that's why she can blend, mix, and harmonize very easily because that's her song😂

Mariah is more than all I want for Christmas!, and we will love her till the end of time. We were very blessed to listen to her with these songs.

Infinity didn't get much success but AIWFCIY peaked higher this year then ever before - No.18 (from No.21 from 2012) and in UK it peaked at No.11

She had this performance/concert because critics said she could only hit those notes in the studio and she was a "studio artiste". Well you showed them butterfly, you showed all of them 💛
