Patrick Larry He meant “No one can sing like this”. It means Mariah’s Style/Tone/Whisper Voice/Transitions/Agility/Low Notes/Melismas/Falsetto/Whistle Register etc.. There’s a lot, each singer is unique and have different abilities.

Mariah is in a league of her own. I'm afraid there will never be a voice like this ever again. We certainly did not cherish the 90s like we should have.

Even though this is her daydream voice, you can start to hear her butterfly color troughout the entire performance... this version is completely different from the original one, like a butterfly-ish version of the song, with her daydream voice.

Harry Bleachwood I'm not sure what your point is. Mariah was working on Butterfly in January 1997 that's only an 8 months difference. It's perfectly plausible that we would see some transitional aspects at this point.

This is definitely among the top five most powerful vocal performances in her career and in music, period. She was so melismatic in this rendition and showed so many colors and tonal variations it was like watching an opera aria. Everyone here talking about vocals, but this song has so much meaning here and MARIAH wrote those beautiful lyrics. Her peers (artists or rather cover singers) whom she is always clubbed with could NEVER in a million years.

she really moved the man behind her to tears, you can tell he really heard the lyrics and how they related to the officer who passed. What a wonderful performance.

She belongs to another dimension of voice and talent… she's the music and most pure talent itself …

Freakin nodules been ruining her voice...shes still my idol no matter what. Superb Hero performance!

@@anggiansyahpohan5357 A bit too late for this but vocal nodules are bump/s in the vocal folds which are caused by singers using their voice improperly, acid reflux, overusing the voice etc. If you're a person who relies on their voice for income (eg a singer, a radio dj), nodules are hell. Most singers can't even sing with this vocal malfunction but Mariah found a way to work with her damaged chords (resulting to her 'natural' whistle register) but in time these nodules worsened because of aging and other factors.

2:52 - 3:22 is probably the most uplifting/powerful part of the song for me. It has always been my favourite part of the song because it motivates me and tells me basically everything is going to be alright. Sorry if that was cheesy.
