Mari Samuelsen - Max Richter: November (Live from the Forbidden City, Beijing / 2018)

Музыка

Mari Samuelsen is one of today’s most imaginative and eloquent violinists, known for her inventive approach to programming and presentation. As part of Deutsche Grammophon's 120th anniversary celebrations held at Beijing’s Forbidden City, Samuelsen took the solo lead in Max Richter’s “November”, accompanied by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Long Yu.
Max Richter’s “November” is Samuelsen’s first single on Deutsche Grammophon. Her debut album was recorded with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and conductor Jonathan Stockhammer and will be released in early summer 2019.

I didn't touch the violin for 15 years, that's why it took me so long to get back in form and be able to perform on this level. I just love playing and imagining I am there, on the stage, with Ms Samuelsen and the orchestra and feeling every tone surging through my whole body. That is also why I like playing barefoot. This piece is composed in such way that the solo violoinist barely has the time to play all the notes and stay in sync with the orchestra. With that said, Ms Samuelsen did a masterful, magnificent job. Kudos to everybody, Max Richter especially. "November" births a whirlwind of emotions in me, and when that happens, I LITERALLY start losing my breath. A masterpiece. Addendum: Ever since I've heard this piece for the first time, I've been utterly enchanted by it, and have obssessively listened to this version and the album version, comparing every note, every crescendo, the solo and the orchestra performance and how well synchronized they are, noticing the differences and obssesing about them, and finally concluding that this rendition is superior to the abum version in every possible way. Since that day, I basically wake up and go to sleep with this gem. And months and months after I've heard this out-wordly beautiful piece, I keep coming back to it. It never fails to fill me with awe and stir every fibre of my being, over and over again. And I have yet to experience it the same way twice. This, this is magnificence of the Universe put into notes.

Only just discovered Mari Samuelsen yesterday and I normally don’t watch music videos, I just put my headphones on and close my eyes. I happened to take a peek and immediately was enthralled. It’s hard to tell where the boundary of violinist and violin start. There isn’t one with her in this video, she is the music and the music is her. They are one, you can almost see the strands of each note fly about and around her and the stage. Absolutely mesmerizing to not only hear but to watch. Beautiful is too weak of a word. I would love to see her live. Wow
