What I would give to experience this zone's introduction again for the first time. Gave me chills. This game truly is a masterpiece by every conceivable metric.

Same man, I had to sit there in stunned silence with my mouth open at the sheer majesty of this zone. And the amazing thing is it's simply a large barren crater with a tower and a jail.

Same. I first arrived on the moon at like 4AM and it hit so hard. I sat there stunned at how amazing it was. I knew the moon was gonna be pretty dope but this just blew my imagination out of the water. Soken and the dev team are the true successors of the FF series.

Was dealing with anxiety and depression a few days back, I still am a bit, but I teleported here whilst in game and just stood in Mare Lamentorum for an hour or so and listened to the music and really helped me ease some of my sadness... ❤️

Which is pretty ironic since "Mare Lamentorum" means "Sea of laments" in Latin. But I think everyone can agree this is quite the opposite and rather soothing instead. Glad to know you've found something to uplift your spirits

I am not going through any form of depression that i know of at least but i feel a similar sensation. Its as if all the worries, stress or even pain of struggles wash away in a place like this. When i look at the planet from this distance.. the stars surrounding it.. the void that the planet floats on.. it adds a certain perspective. The planet doesn't move forward. It doesn't move backward. It just is. It exists. All my problems seem soo small when i close my eyes and looks down on myself from the moon. They are all confined to this small rock floating in space. I get a sense of clarity. Sometimes its ok not to think of the future, or lament the past. Sometimes its ok to exist in the moment the way the planet does.

Mare Lamentorum OST strikes the same as Amh Araeng OST, what a perfect match to MSQ story and location!

I still remember the chills I had accepting that **this** was only the level 83-84 zone... I just couldn't imagine topping traveling to the *moon* for the remainder of the expansion.

And oh boy.. what a wild ride it was. And it got topped twofold, Endwalker was wild.

When I first arrived at this zone, I was in awe. I already knew we were going to the moon, but I hadn't expected it to happen so quickly in the storyline. It sent chills down my spine, because at that moment I knew the story was going to go so much deeper than I had originally anticipated. EW is right up there with ShB as a true masterpiece.

It perfectly captivates the moon

This song really captures how it must feel to be trying to save your friends, yourself, the only world you’ve ever known, and realize that you’ve already been doing that for thousands of years and lost more than anyone can imagine.

This zone gave me Evangelion vibes seeing Zodiark caged in the center. Love the chill theme though. I definitely felt like I was floating in space.

FFXIV Has one of the best composed soundtracks in gaming period. Every single piece of music is crafted to fit perfectly. It's rare to see such care and dedication put into a game nowadays. The music absolutely blows it out of the park every single time

I love that they included a version of the FF prelude

I just got to this zone a few days ago, after playing since March of last year. I sat for an hour just listening, sitting on the balcony with The Watcher. There's so much peace in this music...

It's the choir-like synth that does it for me. It's... perfect.

My jaw dropped when I first heard this combined with the view from the moon

Best zone in the game, bar none. I could stay there forever. So beautiful. I'm glad we're actually doing a new mission irl to go back to our own moon.

Stopping here two years later just to say I went through this area in MSQ and the theme is just stuck in my head as an earworm as I try to sleep.

Love chilling in this zone for the music alone, let alone the masterful work that was this entire thing. Beautiful.

No other expansion will top this one for me.. Many of the things in this expansion, reminded me so much of some of the things in a comic I used to draw as a kid, which I am now redoing, as well as designs for another game.

Yesterday ( first time) I Literally stopped to appreciate the vision... Breath taken, So beautiful, man... I love FF XIV S2 🤩🤩

this zone was sooooo fucking cool....

I just got to this area recently in Endwalker with my black mage and the moment I heard this song I knew it was going into my favourite FFXIV song list. i wanna cry when I hear it, it's so beautiful and has so much emotion, imagery in it. It's not just a space-moon theme, it's got an incredible melody to it. I am glad the FF series continues to have great music, from the very first games to now with FFXIV.

I always felt this and Snowcloak’s theme were the most soothing themes ❤

Soken is a genius man. I'd give anything just to experience 1 day in this guy's head. One of the only things that disappointed me about Endwalker was I wish there was more to do in this zone/we were able to spend more time here. My favorite zone in the entire game. Always loved it when the Hunt Train stopped here.

Was doing the main story late at night when I finally got here. The feeling i got when this song came in through my headest was so surreal that it was like being in a dream. It's such an amazing track!

Oh boy, I can't wait to hear what the night version of the track i- ... .....Ah, well now I just feel silly.

I love this zone a lot, but there's something about it that's always driven me nuts. They showed us a preview of this zone before release, and in that preview the sun was part of the skybox, sitting just left of the planet, which is where the zone's light came from. In the release version, the sun is gone (probably to put more emphasis on the planet), but the fixed lighting of the zone behaves as though the sun is still there. Where does the light come from now? (this is counterbalanced somewhat by the fact that the attention to the "phase of the planet," as it were, is incredible, but still--the shadows show that the light clearly isn't coming off of the planet, so how can we see...?)

The light is coming from all over the sky, but the photons are very polite and orderly, and make sure they're all going the same direction as they approach the moon's surface... probably

Here to compare the FF16 Dominance trailer theme with this song. :D When I first set foot here my first reaction to the music was “FF16 man choir”, in reference to the man choir in the FF14 Awakening trailer song. Just as well, when the Dominance trailer dropped my reaction to the music was “Endwalker style music”, which was a surprise because for whatever reason I was expecting FF16 to sound more like Heavensward.

I'm so glad I found this video! A recent patch changed the way the moon looks, the dark side of Etheirys is a complete shadow now and it's no longer possible to make out the distinct land, clouds, and water.

Let me tell you from my esotetic journey how this mare lamentorum is like. It's one of the steps, a lament that feels like as if it comes out of your spirit, as if it takes it all out. In order to move forward & to get freedom, it just has to throw it all up in form of lament. Everybody might get their moment of complete reset in life, maybe at some point in their life or maybe never at all but this is it, this is how it feels. A lament of freedom. So despite the name, lament is not bad, it's a deep expression of freedom. It's like you've zoomed out of your life on earth, it's got no meaning at all, just like in a middle dimension where it feels so serene. It's a battle and reset with yourself, of what does not belong to you, like a battle to remove what is not you. A lament of removing. I feel so lonely at times of such esoteric change & music is just the right company. Sometimes I wish I could be somewhere isolated from people, like in the greenest valley watching the night sky. Our escapism is not bad, it's helping us cope with it all, it's our strength.

Game: Serious Sam - Fusion Map: De Tenebris Ad Lunam (Workshop Custom Level by Cyborg) Brought me here ! I now understand why the map maker choosed this song on the map he created, it's the same vibes. I sadly never played Final Fantasy, I heard alot about it though, many of my friends plays it. I can tell that even a non-fan/non-player of this game can actually really love the song and falls in deep connection with it. Thank you for using your flying mount showing the area, since me I do not know the game, it's way better seeing where this is from versus a static picture with nothing added at all. Beautiful scenery, I litteraly saved it to be able to use it as a rotating Live Background on Wallpaper Engine. I loved reading the comments too about all players experiences discovering that area. Have a good one and thank you for sharing this masterpiece with us.

When I first arrived at Mare Lamentorum I thought: I guess that's how Neil Armstrong must have felt when he stepped on the moon for the first time in his life! It was amazing that first time for me! I love this Game, this artwork called FFXIV 🤩😍

This zone just hits different. Very rarely does a zone alone tell you all you need to know via ambience and design. The only other instances are Azys La, Garlemald and especially Tempest. Right in the feels. The grief and sadness of a long lost race and the focused hope in Zodiark, soul crushing. Besides being on the moon is awesome on top of that and creates a surreal transcendent feeling.

This moon does not contain a spicy Dorito.

Perfect bgm to just zone out on. Putting it on loop and brain afk.

This is an odd note, but I love how moon themes in games always have that ambience about them. This song kinda reminds me of Untamed Heart from Klonoa: Door to Phantomile just due to the nice chill feeling

Is it just me or does the Elpis music sound pretty similar?

my character, Hime, often comes to Mare Lamentorum to think. she sits on the watcher's palace' top balcony and just looks out at the star. puts things in perspective for her. and btw the name of the theme is a reference to Neil Armstrong's famous quote "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". even more fitting when you think about the fact he said it when he first stepped onto our moon in real life

This and the previous place is where the expansion really took off for me. Loved every moment and hated the start and mid section of radz at hanz until elpis and Ultima Thule. This expansion was really nicely made aside from a few mistakes

Every time I come here on a Hunt Train (Hyperion Represent) it just makes me want to play through Mario Odyssey for the Nth time. I know there’s a lot of Moons in games and media, but Mare just seems to fire the same neurones as the Odyssey Moon does for me, in the best ways possible.

The ending part of Garlemald to half of the moon was by far the craziest part in the whole game. I was utterly shocked at what transpired and they really did the unexpected, these crazy developers.

6.2 spoilers! I have to be honest, I'm not excited for these 13th shenanigans at all. I knew the story of the Ancients, Emet-Selch, and the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga had to come to an end, but I really dont want to accept it. I love the Ancients, I'm hoping they don't move on from them completely but it seems like they might with how 'final' Endwalker was. Hearing this song just makes me sad. I have faith in the writers but I'm also struggling to see how I'm going to care about the new story in the same way.

@@Bonebounder93 Yep, the Ascian Saga was basically nothing, until Shadowbringers released and it all made sense all of a sudden, which took 6 years (this huge lore pay off probably contributed a good part to the success of it, considering how beloved the Ancients are in the whole fanbase, along the unique approach they took with the characters). It was very solid from A Realm Reborn to Stormblood, but it was basically just the build up for the real meaty stuff at the end of the day. Atleast when it comes to the Ancients. I expect the same with the new saga, but probably a tad faster cuz we already have our connections to places and events here and there.

I think it does. If it was just tons of bare moonstone then it would be much more boring. All those little details make it more of a zone than a place.

Love this track, but the voices at 1:23 and then later completely ruin it. Choir voices seem out of place in FF soundtracks, not a fan

It's the lament of souls bound to Zodiark. Hence the zone's name, Sea of Laments

Disagreed. It adds to the ambience of the track, as well as the lore signifying the lament from the souls that were sacrificed to Zodiark.

I'll never forget this moment. It was breathtaking. I actually cried because of how well the OST fit the zone.
