We already knew this because everyone that departs from the new Alexandria are stored to the cloud. The scions surmise that the gate to the golden city was not only a gate to its Reflection, but will likely lead them to the storage facility. But what I wasn’t ready for was everyone meeting their departed love ones. Krile’s scene made me misty eyed

The section with the kids was pretty brutal on top of all the other stuff. And one of the companions (I think it was Krile?) points out just before you shut down that terminal that because these endless are all shown as their happiest selves that that means that all those kids either died young or only became more miserable as they grew up. I was LOSING it through this whole zone man.

I love that detail when you see Wuk Lamat’s nanny bc she’s at her happiest as a young adult woman raising Wuk Lamat as a kid after living 30 years without her. But as soon as she sees Wuk Lamat as an adult she becomes old bc now she’s at her happiest as an old woman looking at how that kid grew up.

I cried at pretty much every section of this map, letting go of old faces and new faces alike, saying goodbye to people we'd just met and yet felt as if we'd known all our lives, Namikka, Otis, Robor and Alayla, Cahciua...One by one, peeling away the facade of memory and nostalgia, leaving only the blank, darkened outline beneath the colour. Until we were left with nothing but the sound of gentle winds. One by one releasing the souls of those who had lived for so long in an eternal dream, letting them sleep forever...even after Sphene was gone, it became even more sad, even as the golden glow of the city faded and the true sun rose over the lifeless skyline, this beautiful music now muffled, distant, like playing from somewhere else we can't reach, echoing through the barren streets like one final memory of the lives of those who inhabited this city, a ghost of a memory...what a beautiful place, i only wish I could have stayed there just a little longer...

Me and 2 other friends of mine were peogging the story together, and when we got to this point, we were ALL crying... I was reminiscing of my dearly departed friend who passed away in his sleep, and my friends were reminiscing about their grandparents that had long since passed to.. I've long since come to acceot their passing, but stuff like this just keeps reopening that wound, and it hurts... it just hurts... One of my friends then said that Ultima Thule and Living Memory are parallels to each other, where one is filled with denizens in constant despair, the latter is filled with people who were at their happiest in their lives... He then proceeded to say: "Love hurts more than Despair"

Having lost loved ones before, I’m constantly plagued by dreams where they remain, constant and endless much like this. Knowing they’re gone but they still haunt and remain. As much as I wish these dreams would stop haunting me, to have it shown so clearly like this was even more painful to bear. To shut it down for everyone, ready or no. And I can’t say even I am ready. But even in dreams, they’re just our memories, and not themselves.

“You can clutch the past so tightly to your chest that it leaves your arms too full to embrace the present.” - Jan Glidewell I really love that the zone looks the most beautiful at first. It really teaches you something: to take your time and cherish the now. Deep down, we all know that nothing lasts forever. In the end, you can't go back to what once was. You're only left with the memory of how great it was.

i honestly really like that you can't bring back this version of the zone after finishing the msq. it's just a hollow shell of what it used to be, all the buildings still there but drained of color, only populated by robots, monsters and the like 5 or so quest givers. the music is still there but hollow and eerie, the golden glow is replaced by cold daylight. i want to go back to what it used to be but i know i can't, everyone is already gone. but that's how it's meant to be, it's a monument to all these people who used to live. absolutely phenomenal expansion, the second half might honestly put this above shadowbringers in my mind.

This oboe solo is used to absolutely devastating effect. I love that instrument because of its pureness of tone and the clarity of its pitch. It adds to the feeling of wistfulness; the Endless remembering their former lives with sadness but acceptance, preparing themselves for their true end. So they live life to the fullest, self-aware that their way of existence isn't sustainable. And then you come to set them free. It's so hard to do the right thing, sometimes, but we're meant to let go. Life is about letting go of every minute every day.

Honestly this zone made me cry so much that it took me 4 hours to finish. A lot of it has to deal with how relatable it was to me. Wuk Lammat getting a second chance to say what was left unsaid to her adoptive mother. Especially with Erenville having to kill his mother essentially and spend a final day with her. Then it kind of hit me why it hurt so much, it was like taking your loved ones off life support in a sense, not wanting to let them go despite them being gone. I think thats maybe what the devs were going for, especially when you consider they give you a choice of shutting the terminals down. Once the machine goes out, the lights go out and the flatline, just leaving silence.

This is the area that broke me. Everything about living memory is so devastatingly sad, and this song captures this feeling so perfectly well that I can't help but tear up every time I hear it. I can't think of any piece of media or fiction that captures the emotion of grief so strongly as this. As someone who has lost people dear to me, without ever having the chance to say goodbye, this area resonated so much with me, that I couldn't stop crying for the entirety of my time in it. The beauty and melancholy of this dying paradise, getting there and meeting these Endless living in innocent bliss in a such a beautiful environment, in full knowledge that their fate is sealed. To see Namikka, Cahciua and Krile's parents in full knowledge that they'll be gone is soul crushing. It's the pain of saying goodbye to a loved one on their deathbed, even if the circumstances around them are peaceful and you know they have accepted their end, it still hurts so much. And then you shut it down, and the empty shell of the what used to be is even worse. The silence, the emptiness and dullness that comes afterwards makes the feeling of loss really sink in.

Lost my old man back in october of last year very suddenly/unexpectedly, christ he was 4 hours away and alone and none of us even got to say goodbye. And god... coming out here i was already at least lightly spoiled on what had to be done to progress the zone/who i'd run into and it still just... devastation. I would have still loved this zone/the last leg of the plot if he were here but god it certainly made the impact of this zone/the villain that much harder. I'm sure he's happy where he is though, went to the place he was happiest and got called home, i like to think a place like this exists without the nightmare that was upkeeping it.

As I was playing through this area, I got reminded of my grandma, who passed not too long after I moved to where I am now. I had to take a moment to sit by a body of water to process my feelings - I think it might have been the ocean towards the edge of town, and water typically is a source of comfort to me. Unprompted, someone who had just finished the same cutscene sat down next to me and kept me company while I cried my eyes out. We'd never met before, but they took the time to sit with me while I processed things. We didn't say a word. Looking back, we probably didn't need to, but I wish I'd taken the time to properly thank them. This zone is a *lot*. It really makes you wrestle with death, and loss, and letting go. And it tears your heart into pieces while you do it.

Losing this beautiful zone and the happy people in it... Well... I understand what message the devs were trying to portray. Enjoy the moment as long as it lasts. Live in it because time is fleeting and short. The people we hold dear and the things we love will eventually fade. We must come to terms with death and loss. Our beloved memories of happiness can live on within ourselves. That's honestly enough 😢

Havent heard many people say Dawntrail is bad, if anything ive heard the opposite, and on a personal level after finishing this zone I would even go as far as to say it managed to combined many previous expansions narratives and pacings together to make it one of the if not the best expansion to date, it sets up so many future stories while also offering us a painful farewell to the past. And it hurt, it hurt, oh god, it hurt. It actually feels hard to go through Living Memory after this, riding through it with the muted soundtrack and eeire music just makes it sad. I do however think, they are going to give us content patchwise that helps revive it again, I cant see this being the end, its too bleak.

I see why gold was chosen...those golden days, those happy days. Gold never tarnishes just like thise memories we keep. This zone has been the most final fantasy thing in awhile. The 4 elements each with its own community, and theme. Each sparking something from our lives. Water with its endless flow, though obstacles may block us at times our feelings, and wants will find a way through. To answer that question what I wouldn't give to have one more day, and Raha was right if i could choose let it be a happy one. Fire is always seen as the courageous and bold, the fire within them only as brilliant as the sun. Earth...can be seen as many things but i guess it makes sense that it is one of remembrance. Even if years should go by the earth we walk was paved by the ones before and only fitting we adhere to the mistakes of the past to build a better future. Wind, going wherever the wind takes you the most adventurous element. From a raging tempest, to the calm evening breeze no matter what it goes on. Theres so much to say maybe im getting old, maybe i remember those days I was truly happy. For we are the living memory.

The second half of Dawntrail up to this point was what really kept my interest. For me, I lost interest in Lamatyi. But the key takeaway from this whole experience is remembrance. Everything and everyone you've met along the journey to this point is about honoring their legacies but never truly to the point that it becomes your focus to keep those people alive in a metaphysical manner. I think it really hits home that when you're helping all the Endless lingering behind to help them realize their true purposes in life and that by helping them you've helped them be at ease knowing that their legacies are preserved. Though the Alxeandrians are a reflection of Allag, these people truly had a good heart in mind and a ruler who wanted nothing more than to keep her people alive and happy no matter how justified. Thanks, Square, for an emotional journey and rest in peace, Otis and Cahciua ❤

I lost my dad when I was 16, and my mom just last year. They died 20 years apart from eachother. The feelings this place gave me had me a mess for days afterward. I miss them so much. I'm closing in on my 40s quickly. I'd hoped they'd stick around a lot longer but, they had me late in their lives. Cherish your parents while you have them. Losing them is an inevitibility, you will always have their memories but you will still miss their physical presence no matter how old you get. If you have a good relationship with them, cherish it, if you don't? Your feelings will be complicated but it's still okay to miss them. Also, don't feel guilty if you can't spend their last moments with them, death is often unexpected, both my parents died unexpectedly. But I can only hope a part of them exists somewhere together. You gotta be okay with letting go at some point in your life. Let it go...there's nothing of your loved ones here anymore except memories; cherish those and walk, and make new memories.

BIG twilight town energy here really sad you couldn't put it back the way it was after the trial, its genuinely beautiful and I can't imagine putting all that work in for it to only be there for a few hours or a day at most before being left as cold and grey metal forever after
