This is a song by the Guitarist “Guinga” with lyrics by the famous Brazilian journalist and writer Aldir Blanc. The title is being referred to the Church da Penha located on a hill in Rio de Janeiro . To reach the church it is needed to climb all its 382 steps.
Guinga (Carlos Althier de Souza Lemos Escobar; born June 10, 1950) is a Brazilian guitarist and composer born in Madureira, a working-class suburb of Rio de Janeiro. As a child, he was nicknamed "Gringo", because of his pale skin, and the artistic name "Guinga" comes from the way he pronounced the word. During the 1970s, Guinga accompanied famous singers such as Beth Carvalho and João Nogueira and recorded with samba legends Cartola and Clara Nunes. He also began a fertile songwriting partnership with the poet and lyricist Paulo Cesar Pinheiro. Their songs were recorded by important artists like Elis Regina, Nelson Gonçalves, Miúcha, Clara Nunes, and Michel Legrand. During the same time, Guinga embarked on a parallel career in dentistry, which he practiced for nearly thirty years. His music career took off in earnest in 1990, when Ivan Lins and Vitor Martins formed the Velas label in order to release Guinga's first album, with a repertoire of songs he co-authored with lyricist Aldir Blanc.
Aldir Blanc Mendes (2 September 1946 - 4 May 2020) was a Brazilian author of crônicas (journalistic vignettes, chronicles) and lyricist. He co-composed many songs with singer-songwriter João Bosco, guitarist Guinga, and others. He trained as a psychiatrist at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, graduating in 1971. Eventually he quit medical practice and devoted all his time to music. Elis Regina recorded several of his songs, most notably "O bêbado e a equilibrista". Another song of his is "Resposta ao tempo" (with lyrics by Cristovão Bastos), a ballad that became one of Nana Caymmi's most famous songs, and which was recorded by many other musicians thereafter, amongst them Milton Nascimento and Aldir Blanc himself.

i am always amazed at composers who can create such complex pieces and yet they flow with such care and beauty..fabulous playing Claudio ....with so much feeling ...i love the varied pace, it is like the piece breathes with such an infusion of life...bravissimo Claudio👏🏾👏🏾👌🏽
