I think Nocturnal is one of the masterpieces of contemporary music. Its penetrating expression of moods, commonly associated with the night time, is unsurpassed. Marcin: your feeling for this difficult piece is very evident and your technique is up to its stringent demands. You have let the music speak perfectly in you and through you.

I am often bored by the performances of classical guitarists, but listening to this interpretation was for me a revelation. I think Britten would have been very proud of Marvin’s performance. It is technically impeccable and musically totally respectful of Brittens text. Beautiful sound going from delicacy to aggressiveness and showing a deep understanding of the piece. I still know some of it by heart, it is one of the masterpieces of the guitar repertoire. Bravissimo Marcin! This is an outstanding performance

This had such a powerful emotional impact on me that I felt exhausted. There is a real display of genius here, both in the musical composition and in the virtuoso performance of Marcin Dylla.

Having struggled to make "sense" of this piece in other performances, this one came across clearly in all its complexity and I suddenly "hear" what Britten must have had in mind. A tremendous performance and recording of an elusive masterpiece.

I just finished listening to several video performances by Marcin on a Woodbridge guitar. I heard Marcin on the Lodi in person several years ago. In recording or live, the Lodi to my mind outperforms the Woodbridge. I love the Lodi! And Marcin? I'm glad I had a chance to hear maybe the best guitarist of this new century and certainly in the same league as a Bream. Indeed a rare treat!

god damn theres so much to be said about this piece. what an adventure in technique and kafkaesque melodies! this is the first time ive heard of this one and it seems this is Brittens take on borderline atonality; so many diminished and nonharmonic passages. i enjoy the diminished and whole tone so i was transfixed by this piece till the very end, in which i was surprised as hell: 14:30 when it switched to a clear major tonality! a calm after the storm really. the only thing missing from this piece was bartok pizzicato! haha. perfect playing Marcin, bravo!

This was first performed [to my knowledge] by Julian Bream in the 1970's. The piece is a 'reverse' deconstruction of John Dowland's composition, Come Heavy Sleep which is fully quoted at the end [the tonal part]. Extraordinary piece, wonderful playing by Dylla.

Billy Stewart , It was first recorded by the Brazilian classical guitarist Eduardo Abreu ( the Abreu Brothers are Eduardo and Sérgio Abreu) in 1968. I think it's worth hear Eduardo' s interpretation to make some educative comparison. Unfortunately both of them stopped their musical activity very early ( around the end of 70s, ).

I have been playing the guitar for many years, teaching the guitar. My opinion: this is not music, but a set of sounds. It may be something else, but this is not for the guitar. Such works have nothing to do with the guitar! And don't argue with me !!
