I was literally thinking about a different build for a marchesa deck, thanks a lot, it looks so fun and I can't wait to try it!

I've run this commander build for a few years now and have been tuning it with balance of modular stuff to loop, sacrifice and payoffs. I would strongly recommend Steel Dromedary as it can be a loop and protect Marchesa with a counter of her own. I wrote a primer a while back and a neat thing to note is as follows. NOTE: Black Sun's Zenith and stuff like Toxic Deluge will allow any creature to come back that would be killed if they had a +1/+1 counter on them with Marchesa out. Normally a -1/-1 counter will remove any +1/+1 counter but if it would die (excedes over health including counters) to the negative counters it will gain a Marchesa trigger. This is due to rule 704.8 which summarizes to that if it last existed on the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter while a state based action will move it to graveyard, its last known info is derived thus applying the delayed marchess trigger. This rule also applies to a creature with a +1/+1 counter on it thats not normally a creature like Sculpting Steel meaning it will come back even though it is no longer a creature in the graveyard.

God that’s the main issue with the deck, finding the balance

I've been wanting to build a unique marchesa deck for a while and I had never thought about the modular mechanic until now!

I have building a deck based around the Modular and Marchesa for a while and some other cards which I have found to be pretty handy, and may be considerations for this deck as well are: **Skyclave Shadowcat, no need to remove 2 counters to draw cards, when a creature you control with a +1/+1 dies draw a card. for 2 mana you can sac a creature and the cat gets a +1/+1 so saving it with commanders ability. *Smothering Abomination, a sac outlet at the beginning of turn with when you sac a creature draw a card. *Shifty Doppelganger slightly on the higher end for ability use at 4 mana but would be a way to sneak in some of the higher cost modulars and its also a sac at end of turn so I felt that the cost could be justified, and it can be used on each turn, sudo flash ability. **Workhorse surprised not to see that as its a great mana generator especially with modular and even if you drop it to just 1 counter and sac bring it back for another 3 mana (colourless) and could be paired easily with Horizon Stone for mana storage. Yes it is a 6 drop but one that you can see benefits from immediately and without killing it could cost you only 3 after removing 3 counters. *Cauldron of Souls, yes I am aware of the reduced counters as they balance out but it does give an additional sac per turn as you could double up on one phase just making sure to target creatures with at least 2 + counters on them. *Warstorm surge, Pandemonium, Terror of the peaks, impact tremors, damage as you cycle your creatures **High Market would be a great addition as it gives another sac outlet *Thopter Assembly for your Time Sive **Grimgrin, Corpse-Born sac outlet adding +1/+1 counters to the mix and can destroy a creature when he attacks **Necroplasm, free kill ability that you can reset, great for removing token armies. I find with decks built with this concept in mind adding as many sac outlets as possible is necessary.

I build this deck a month ago and it’s great, the engine of iron apprentice and goblin engineer is nasty, you want engineer basically every game because it gets your combos out in 1-2 turn cycles

Grim haruspex and river kelpie make any sac outlet into a draw engine with marchesa. These are for sure adds. Also Kappa cannoneer was shown at the end but you guys didn't really talk about it, it really can't be understated how much of a killer this thing is. Oh and herald of secret streams makes everything modular an unblockable. I've been slowly tuning a Marchesa list for about a month now and I've been gradually going deeper into the artifact style. Its really strong and anyone that wants a fun marchesa deck should try this style.

If you are playing Marchesa you just HAVE to play every card you can that has the word „graft“ in it. This mechanic ist just completely insane and basically saying „get every etb/ death trigger/ death payoff every players turn“

@@vincentqu9654 So the idea is for the cards with Graft 2 or more. You would always need to keep a counter on it once you go to sacrifice it as I understand it. But like modular, your creatures entering with counters is always a good thing. Though, I have cut graft creatures for better alternatives in my decks to be honest.

TBH I have made the Black Rose deck 4-5 different ways. After 2-3 plays I always go back to sneak attack reanimation.

Oh never though of marchessa for modular deck. I tried a few things over the years and now I settle for Osgir and so far so good!

So, I've run many versions of Marchesa, and I'm not sold on Slip out the back. The fact that she doesn't return until your next turn, can actually ruin all your plans because you no longer have dethrone on all your creatures. There are other cheap instants that give you a counter now for Marchesa...so I'm not sure this one works yet. Haven't fully tested it.

4:15 not all modular creatures are constructs only the scrapyard recombiner and the arcbound worker are, I have a fairly tuned Modular marchesa and moved away fome construct pull because of this.

I disagree about removing Myr Scrapling. As a Marchesa player myself, you need as many instant speed ways to put a 1/1 onto Marchesa or any creature. It's a slightly worse Iron Apprentice, but with modular creatures, it is very easy to get a counter on it before you have to sac it.

This was the first Marchesa deck I made after she was spoiled. I got a lot of mileage out of Sage of Fables since this deck relies on Marchesa (and some draw). Scrap Mastery is great fun too. Is River Kelpie too much of a Marchesa-Goodstuff card? Lots of new toys for this deck. I may have to rebuild it.

This ep must of been recorded before new capenna cause I didn't hear them say corpse cleaner. If they did my apologies but marches without corpse cleaner is basically why bother?

What card are you talking about? Corpse Cleaner is not a card...and man I searched through New Capenna and can't figure out what card you're saying is an auto-include that you could mean in this situation.

I built Marchesa using that crappy "party" mechanic from Zendikar Rising. I was really hoping it would get support from Forgotten Realms, but it didn't. Thankfully, New Capenna provided a bunch of really fascinating Warriors and Rogues.

This isn't about the deck itself, but I don't understand how so many people run so few lands in their decks. I've got 35-37 in all 9 of my decks and I STILL get land screwed often.

I am there with you. What I realized is people tend to cut lend if they (obviously) have more ramp, but also if they have consistent draw engine as it allows them to cycle through their deck faster.

I disagree, Farewell is one of the best board wipes in commander and its been seeing A LOT of play since its been out. Expect to see it even going into a random pod.

With marchesa decks you typically have a sac outlet in play to let your creatures dodge exile removal. Simply sac your board to carrion feeder/altar as farewell is on the stack and at end of turn the whole team is back.

with some of the cuts it seems like these guys haven't actually gotten too familiar with gameplay of Marchesa modular......alright includes, but marchesa needs to decide weather shes an early or mid game deck, that should inform on the cards cut and not better than this

Wow this is like a complete void of personality. It's hard for me to be interested in what you're talking about when you two have the cadence of infomercial hosts.
