Wow "He's Back". First I can't get enough of Freddie Mercury, now I can't get enough of Marc Martel LOL. God gifted these 2 men with golden voices.

I so love Marc's ability to sing like Freddie; I also like the fact that he has managed not to mind singing Queen's songs rather than his own after all this time. I can only imagine that he must have felt the need to step outside of Freddie's shoes and be Marc once and for all, but for some reasons people miss Freddie so much that he had to go with Freddie's halo all the way AND not be bothered by that. It takes strength not to let your artistic ego step in front of what others expect from you.

Saw him in Regensburg. Will see him again in Ingolstadt next year. Awesome. voice, presence and damn, he made us all party hard, sing and dance along and have the greatest day of our lives. Thanks Marc.

It was amazing yesterday in Hamburg!

It feels like a revival of Freddie if you start to sing. Your voice give me goosebumps like the original Queen songs then.

Of all his live shows, i think this is one of the best live version of Queen Medleys. Very powerful and raw like when Freddie wants his voice to rip the speakers. Awesome!

Marc Martel ist sensationell !!! Es sollte der Leadsänger von Queen sein. Freddie würde lächeln :)

Habe ihn gestern live in Düsseldorf gesehen. Komme zwar aus der Reggae und Soul Ecke, aber Queen war im zarten Teenager Alter meine erste Pop-Band, von der ich großer Fan war. Und die Liebe zur Musik dieser großartigen Band ist nie ganz erloschen, wurde aber durch den Film Bohemian Rhapsody und auch Marc Martel neu entfacht. Dabei ist mir noch mal bewusst geworden, welch geniales Songwriting insbesondere Freddie und Brian, aber auch John und Roger betrieben haben. „We are the champions“ z.B. Dieser Song war für mich Jahre lang unten durch, weil er bei jedem pisseligen Dorfverein der Fußball-Kreisliga nach irgendwelchen Meisterschaften oder Aufstiegen zum Erbrechen gespielt und peinlich mitgegröhlt wurde. Aber im Kino mit Dolby Surround hat er in der Wembley Szene eine magische und beeindruckende Stimmung erzeugt, so dass ich bei diesem Song zum allerersten Mal nach langer, langer Zeit richtige Gänsehaut hatte. Sehr interessant für mich war festzustellen, dass ich damals wie heute insbesondere auf die Klavier basierten und nicht die gitarrenlastigen Songs von Queen stehe. Also gerade diejenigen, die auch hier im Medley so wunderbar miteinander verwoben werden. In der offiziellen Queen Doku, die ich jedem Musikliebhaber nur wärmstens ans Herz legen kann, sagte Freddie z.B., dass er bei „Somebody to love“ an Aretha Franklin denken musste, die ich ebenfalls als Soul Liebhaber sehr verehre. Oder wie er bei „Don’t stop me now“ sich gegen Brian May durchgesetzt hat, weil letzterer ursprünglich wollte, dass das Piano zurückgenommen und dafür die Gitarre lauter gedreht wird. Freddie wollte aber den Song genauso haben, wie er jetzt ist, weil er eben das Gespür hatte, dass er anders nicht wirke. Zurück zu gestern. Bei Tribute Geschichten bin ich grundsätzlich sehr vorsichtig und kritisch. Habe vor einigen Jahren eine „Tribute to Motown“ Show über mich ergehen lassen und ich kam mir vor wie im Zirkus. Da wurde überhaupt nichts an Gefühlen transportiert, die man mit dieser grandiosen Musik aus den 1960er verbindet und weswegen ich sie so mag. Aber bei Marc Martel war ich mir im Vorfeld recht sicher, dass es mit ihm anders sein würde. Und ich behielt Recht. Das Publikum und die Bestuhlung im Innenraum waren am Anfang zwar etwas befremdlich, aber mit jedem Song wurde die Anzahl der Steher und Tänzer größer. Und zwischendurch gab es so viele Momente, in denen ich die Augen schloss und wirklich dachte, ich höre gerade Freddie live singen. Unglücklicherweise war Marc Martel gestern etwas erkältet und hat sich dafür auch entschuldigt, weil man an der einen oder anderen Stelle doch gemerkt hat, dass er um die Noten kämpfen musste. Aber das musste Freddie schließlich auch oft, insbesondere bei seinem legendären Wembley-Auftritt. Und es war trotzdem überwältigend. Zudem fand ich es gestern sehr sympathisch, dass Marc Martel dem Publikum ganz klar gesagt hat, dass seine Band nicht Queen ist und auch niemals sein wird. Er möchte einfach nur eine gute Zeit mit Gleichgesinnten (Queen-Fans) haben und die Musik von Freddie, Roger, John und Roger feiern und würdigen. Er stelle sich sehr oft vor, welch großartigen Genre übergreifenden Songs noch entstanden wären, würde Freddie noch leben und sich beispielswiese der klassischen Musik widmen. Wie das hätte klingen können, bewies Herr Martel beim anschließenden Ave Maria, welches er schließlich gefühlvoll in die ersten Takte von Bohemian Rhapsody gleiten ließ. Gänsehaut pur. Hatte ich eigentlich schon erwähnt, dass Marc Martel ebenfalls ein begnadeter Pianist ist? Also, lasst Euch die Shows mit ihm nicht entgehen, räumt die Stühle in der Halle zur Seite, schließt die Augen und ärgert Euch nicht mehr über das Schicksal der späten Geburt, denn: The Show Must Go On!

Schmidthorst69 Ich war auch da ☺️ ich fand es grandios und auch total toll was er so erzählt hat. Seine Ausstrahlung und Performance haben mich sehr gerührt und kamen bei mir echt an. Spätestens bei love of my life war es um mich geschehen und ich hab geflennt wie ein kleines Kind. Ich liebe die Musik von Queen und finde es toll, dass Marc so viel Freude daran hat, denn das transportiert er auch. Ich wollte auch Karten für Köln und Adam Lambert + Queen haben, leider hat mir das schon bei den oscars nicht zugesagt. Oftmals wird marc hinterher gesagt, er sei ein toller Sänger und Pianist und kein Performer. Ich habe das ganz anders Empfunden. Er ist ein Performer! Durch und durch! Bei Lambert ist es mir zu aufgesetzt und ich finde auch, dass er mehr ein Show/Balladen Sänger ist. Ich bekomme einfach nicht die “Queen” Stimmung wie ich sie bei Marc erhalten habe. Deswegen, halber Preis fürs Ticket aber die volle Queen-Dröhnung. Ich kann jedem nur ans Herz legen, sich Martel live anzusehen. (Hoffentlich gesund)

Respekt für diesen Roman, besonders gut finde ich Vocal und Klavierpart in dem Lied Nevermore, von dem zweiten Queen album "Queen 2". Kam zwar leider nicht in der Show von Marc vor, da es auch ziehmlich unbekannt ist, dafür fand ich Save Me und Who wants to live forever extrem gut interpretiert. Ich stehe da zusammen mit Marc auf der "Brian May Hümnen Fan Basis"!

Aber das gibt's dann hoffentlich bei der ersten Show nach Corona zu hören! PS: Oder wurden die Songs etwa gesungen und ich hab's nicht mitbekommen? :D

I usually try to respect Marc by not comparing him with Freddie too much, but Marc's reflection in the piano at 2:40 literally looks like it's Freddie and it's freaking me out a bit. That is just uncanny.

I'm not sure that "Freddie" in his voice will go away... it might just sound similar to a different decade. Marc has joked on the few occasions where he's performed "under the weather" that he still sounds like Freddie (but hitting the lower notes that Freddie typically sang live, instead of in studio). Seconded that you should check out what Marc has already done on his own. Just don't be surprised if you still hear "Freddie" there too.
