It honestly took me intill the next review to realise Durandal's VA was something Madalor added.

Marathon: Durandal goes HAM!

So, I played through Marathon 1 in the gap between your reaction to Mandalore's video and this. I feel like he slightly exagerated how difficult to navigate the levels were overall, BUT *Colony ship for sale cheap* really is an atrocity that destroys your brain. After beating it and looking at how much time it took, it turns out it was only an hour and a half, and yet I can't remember a game that frustrated me more than this (including challenging boss fights that took upwards of 4 hours). I looked things up online afterwards, and even the Aleph-1 devs originally had a cheat installed in the port that "fixed" the level, before putting it back in because of fan requests. To anyone who wants to beat Marathon 1 "legit", please look up how to beat the level easily, it is not worth doing "legit" at all. After all that rant, you'd expect me to complain some more, but I greatly enjoyed my time with Marathon 1. With the exception of that one single level, the rest of the game still holds up great, and I'm not just talking about the story and music. There's a few quirks of aiming typical of those old FPS, but besides that I had a blast. Hope I'll have time to beat 2 before you upload your Marathon infinity reaction, but I don't hold my breath for that one ;)

Part of it is that older versions of Aleph One actually included a port of Marathon 1 assets called M1A1 (M1A1 also included a modified first level that occasionally started you in a tunnel with Pathways Into Darkness-textured walls and the boss monster from PiD). When Aleph One was updated to actually load Marathon 1 assets, they started distributing original Marathon 1 assets instead of a port.
