Maralborough Pie - Pies Of March 2023
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Welcome to the Pies of March Collaboration, Day 10. In this video, I am making a Maralborough Pie. The Marlborough Pie is very old, dating to the 1600s, and very English, using apples, cream and butter. It also uses ingredients widely available in Tudor England: nutmeg from the Spice Islands, lemon from the Mediterranean and sherry from Spain. I am using the Farm Journal's Complete Pie Cookbook recipe. It is a great use of your home canned applesauce, which is a staple in most canners pantries.

Your husband is really enjoying those pies. What man wouldn’t? It looks like something I would really like . Thanks once again for sharing.
I love that you can make this without the pie crust. I am gluten free so making pies without crust is my specialty. This is a great collaboration LeeAnne. Thanks.
Ha! Don't you just love it? You put work and love into your baking and honestly, I think the hubby would be happy with anything.❤️

Yay, another recipe from the Farm Journal cookbook! And especially another recipe to use up applesauce. I'd have to make these pies every day for a few months to work down my applesauce stash but it would be a help, haha. Our apples cook to mush so I can only turn them into applesauce, apple butter and apple bbq sauce. Glad you and Howard both did a taste test, the results tell me I want to bump up the lemon zest to push that flavor. Hubby isn't a fan of applesauce so if I can hide it, that much better. Thank you, LeAnne!

Thank you for tasting the pie too. I'd bet if you made both pies side-by-side he would be able to taste the difference, but in the end it doesn't matter because he liked both pies. I've just recently found your channel and enjoying watching.

Thank you very much for your time in giving us something that I'm sure is delicious.
Hey Leanne! Beautiful pie! How they baked pies before ovens - In the fireplace! Scoop a pile of hot coals to the inner edge of the hearth. Dutch oven. Place pie inside on cast iron spider (trivet). Cover. Scoop hot coals on to top of dutch oven. Depending upon how hot the coals and fire are depends on how far into the fireplace you set your coals and oven. rotate the oven 1/4 every so often so that one side (closer to the fireside) doesn't burn, also how I keep time until it's done. You can carefully lift the lid and check for doneness. I love cooking this way when we're camping!
