Essentially, the reason countries such as Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen don't have rivers is because they technically do, they have bodies of water called Wadis, which although aren't rivers, they're the closest thing they've got to them. They're like rivers except they only flow some times of the year and they also contain some pockets of unflowing water.

The Queen did so much planning for her funeral, and yet she didn't have the guts to invite me smh. Us, Iran, and Nicaragua were only invited at the ambassadorial level, and we all opted not to attend. Perhaps she knew my shining presence would've been too bright for the Abbey to handle. London is such a cool city so it would be nice to one day visit Downing Street as well as our London embassy It's funny how you mention colonization regarding the European disputes map but not with the religion map...Latin America is extremely Catholic because that's what Spain and Portugal introduced to the natives

I used to be absolutely godawful at geography and anything related to it, but after I started watching your videos I took it upon myself to try to learn the flags of all the countries. Libya doesn't have a natural river, but Gaddafi did create a "man-made river" during his rule. It's an ambitious system of pipes that supplies fresh water across Libya from the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer. It provides 70 PERCENT of all freshwater in Libya Also Portugal claimed all of Africa because in the Treaty of Tordesillas, a line determined the spheres of influence of Spain and Portugal when Europeans realized the Americas existed. The Americas were split between Spain and Portugal. Spain got most of the Americas, but what Portugal really wanted was control of the Indian Ocean for the spice trade. Which according to the treaty, they got as well as Africa

Love how the line for Elizabeth II at 8:20 is the same color as the Elizabeth Line/Crossrail....nice touch. That German-speaking bit of Italy at 10:05 is South Tyrol and it was historically Austrian until WWI where under the Treaty of London of 1915, the Allies promised to give it to Italy which Italy occupied in 1918 and annexed in 1919 The fact Houston has so much parking downtown is just sad. American drivers love to complain about traffic, but if cities had better and transit-oriented infrastructure instead of wasting land away for parking lots, there'd be less cars on the road because people would be riding trains and thus no traffic.
@LeakyTrees
Жыл бұрын
I mean, the cities were designed around cars, and due to dot regulations, they always will be. only really old cities like Philadelphia have small roads and less car centric designs. Plus, you can't get anywhere in most American cities without a car. Bad transit plus spaced out, massive urban areas, make it hard to get to anything in a timely manner.

The UK doesn't just have a dispute with Argentina, they also have a dispute with Mauritius over the Chagos Archipelago (the British Indian Ocean Territory). The UK illegally split the Chagos from Mauritius so the US could build a naval base there and they forcibly removed the Chagossians who lived there. Both the UN and the International Court of Justice agree that the islands belong to Mauritius but the UK refuses to give them up

3:19 there's a little bit of a story about that, actually. if you look at the two french maps, you'll notice thatt the biggest difference was not having a west coast-east coast block. that's because the uk wanted their north-south block, and we conceeded it. the french government was apparently mocked by journalists at the time, but it's credited as a turning point in the diplomatic relations of both countries. france and UK had been at each other's throats for a while, but around the years of that gesture they got closer, forming an alliance that became important for both world wars.
