Maple Syrup Part 1 | Splitting Wood | Les Stroud

Ойын-сауық

As many of you know I tap my own trees for maple syrup boiling. It’s a phenomenal experience my son Logan and I do every year. Here is my neighbour Glenn Skidmore who is very much a master at the process. I thought it best I “tap” into him to get this instruction presented properly!

Thank you for this video. My husband chops our wood at our cabin and I am hesitant about trying. Now I will look for some dry wood logs in our wood shack to try when he is not with me. Best wishes from Alberta.

Good luck mate! At least it's not hardwood, Jarrah can be tough to split.

Reminds me of the time my grandpa and I visited his friend that made maple syrup. It's damn hard work to create a sizable batch! I hope you're doing well Les, you're a real legend.

I grew up just north of Carleton place ON. My family and I would tap our tree's and make our own syrup too. Some of my favourite memories are of that.

Great video, It took me a while to learn that it's more about speed and accuracy than brute power. Oh and I guess that rule applies to splitting wood too.

My grandfather used to make maple syrup up in Novar. We would help collect the sap for him so he could boil it down.

It's always amused me how important the wood grain is for a clean split. When I have bonfires with friends, I'll pick the straightest looking pieces to split just to show off
