If you are on a budget and you use an angle grinder and cut off wheels for everything STOP 🛑 ! I was wasting a ton of money and time, so I finally bought this plate shear. In this video I review the Shop Fox Tools M1041 12in plate shear. This tool has already paid for itself with the savings in just cut off wheels alone. Nice! Was thinking of getting something like this myself and seeing one in action helps make a decision. Now the thing with the 3/16" claimed capacity of this is it's not rated for full width cuts. I think you can only cut just under 3 inch width at the 3/16" thickness.

    It's a great tool especially for the money, as far as the 3/16 claim I tried multiple times and I can't even get through an inch let alone 3 inches of material at the 3/16 thickness (mild steel) otherwise great tool 👍..

    Hi! Can you make several 12" cuts in a row? Cut a sheet, for example 10 feet in 16 gauge, cut it lengthwise, I mean.

    Sort of... It would be very difficult to do... The longest piece I have cut was about 30" its very difficult to keep the cut straight. Hope this helps..

    Hi I like your video, can you do the same, with a 20 inch Sedy hand shear. I would like to know, would a 20 inch cut 6mm plate steel, would anyone know please .

    6mm is almost a ¼ plate, that is some pretty heavy material for a hand shear. This plate shear in the video bearly does ³/¹⁶, I find it hard to believe a 20" shear would cut 6mm plate... so to answer your question I would say no, but this is just my opinion. 🤙😁

    Good video , but is their anyone that can tell me, if the 20 inch one (500mm ) will it cut 6mm Plate steel ? I should have the Sedy 500mm in a few day's, but would like an experienced person, to tell me, if you think the 20 inch shear, would cut 6mm plate. Looking forward to hear some opinions. Cheers Karl, in Australia .

    I did a quick Google search and found the sedy 500mm, says it cuts 1.2mm(18ga) steel , 2.5mm(11-12ga) iron, the shear looks decent but I wouldn't get your hopes up for cutting 6mm plate..good luck..👍

    Great review... is the cut off piece deformed? Or can it cut sheet metal in two with both pieces remaining flat?

  • @ChallengeTheBuild

    @ChallengeTheBuild

    There is very minimal deformity in the cut off piece however the thickness of the material plays a part in this.. I've found the thicker material shows a little more because of the effort I have to put in to make the cut, but overall it is in my opinion very minimal. Great tool especially for the price. I appreciate you dropping a comment 👍 thank you!

    @@ChallengeTheBuild I want to use if for 16 guage sheet metal that would be up to 11" wide, is this design throatless to allow me to cut in a straight line across the width? So i can use the 8" model instead of the 12"

  • @ChallengeTheBuild

    @ChallengeTheBuild

    4 жыл бұрын

    I do not believe they call this a throatless design, if you compare the designs of the two they are different however this one does act similar to throatless.. If you look at the video I belive in one of the short clips you see me cutting a piece that is approx 20 inches in length without an issue.. so i would say that cutting 11in pieces on an 8 in shear shouldn't be an issue (just my opinion) .. it cuts 16ga like a hot knife through butter.

    I scrap a lot of ac units too. Can I get away with buying a 5" or 8" shear? I just want to cut copper tubing up to 1-1/4.

    I would say a 6" would work just fine. I wasn't sure so I bought the 12" knowing that I would be using it for other things. It is by far one of the best tools I bought for the cleaning of copper...I show how I use it in my how to scrap hvac units. Great tool!! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment 👍I appreciate it.

    Can a sheer be used to bend metal?

  • @ChallengeTheBuild

    @ChallengeTheBuild

    I've never seen it done and don't think it's possible.. Shear is exactly that, shears metal... If you are looking to bend metal you would want to look at a break..🤙

    @@heavymod9476 anything is possible I guess, but my opinion is that the time and money you would have to spend to modify something like that (with no guarantee of it working) I bet you would be more than half way to getting a small brake.? Not sure..🤔🤨🤙

    Unfortunately I did not have good success with 3/16 mild steel plate. You may have to look at Eastwoods manual Iron worker but at I think $800 its a big difference in price.. Good luck..Thanks for the comment 👍
