Duncan averaged 20ppg, 14rpg and 2bpg Manu averaged 18.8ppg, 5.8rpg and 4asp. I'm not sure what people based it off of when they say Manu deserved the MVP. Duncan took over the 4th quarter. He willed them to that win after the Spurs were down. He literally coached them and set up the passes to Manu for that three dagger. That was all Tim Duncan orchestrating it right there. I love Manu... he is my personal favorite athlete, but I don't think he deserved it as much as Duncan.

rip and billups were the two main scorers in that piston team and i recall, parker and bullips couldnt exactly defend/beat each other and big ben was stopping timmy, kind of... it all went to prince + rip against manu and bowen, and the piston just couldnt stop manu

+Brandon Reed Manu is my fav athlete ever, but he is not better than MJ, Kobe, D-Wade, Jerry West, Drexler or AI (if you count him as a 2 guard). However, after them, I think its fair for him to be in the discussion for top 10 2 guard ever, even if basketball is more position-less now: Manu was a better defender and passer than Ray or Reggie, not to mention more rings.

manu is so underrated its sad. manu was ridiculous in his prime. him and timmy were an incredible one-two punch in this game

Yo tmb hubiese querido que lo gane pero no era tan obvio que lo tenia que ganar en mi opinion.

Yeah but defense rebounding and shot blocking also matters. Duncan set the table in order for manu to have success. Facing double teams against the defensive player of the year ben Wallace, along with rasheed wallace, mcdysse And the big boys swarming and mauling duncan. Loved ginobili that series but he didn't show up on the road.

Awarded or not, Finals MVP level player. Way more MVP level that Kawhi Leonard or Iguodala when they wins.

He was the right owner of that MVP, but Duncan is also a legend to remember.

I love watching this Spurs moment/memory because this was when Ginobli made a name for himself in his prime! This was the Ginobli I loved watching when he was young! 1 more yr Manu with Spurs & with Timmy & Tony to get a 5th ring for u & for Spurs 6th championship! #RaceForSix!

Such a passion for winning, that was what always amazed me.

It’s incredible how easy Ginobili would take the ball into the paint for a layup/dunk. In that year he had to be the most dominant pound for pound guard.

Tonight the Spurs will retired #20 in the high rafters next to the 5 Spurs NBA Championships banners. What a tribute it will be, What an explosive amazing under rated basketball player the NBA has seen. He made instant basketball fans over night. Tonight he will be the MVP in our hearts for ever. He will be missed for sure but not forgotton. Gracias Superman!!!!

I remember watching this game….I was at the night service at church….I kept walking to the back room to watch the game….low scoring but beautiful team basketball from both teams.

What ginobilli does the last 10 seconds is brilliant. Anyone would have turned it over for the photo and he just thought about running out time. And then all the co-workers wanting to remove the Ballon is one of the best images of a final in recent times

Manu should've been finals MVP this series. it's all good though.

Yo because both of those teams couldn’t shoot for shit , no one in the pistons team could shoot better than the warriors , even in this play , they are just standing in the point , how are they gonna guard steph , klay and kd all together .

when i satrted watching nba i was like i love theese guys the big trio from san antonio. then i realized that this man having too little time was the main reason why spurs are so attractive to me. manu always been and still in his 40s is the engine player, most dinamic , most aesthetic, most individually acomplished player (including passing , vision of the court and intelect) i have ever seen. not to mention his rings and other results

Maybe partially bc h'es white, but the main reason Ginobili is underrated is because he played for the Spurs. Parker and Duncan are underrated as well. Price of playing excellent team ball. But thats neither here nor there. The unrelated point im trying to make is I love me some GINOBILIIIIIIII +charles barkley voice+

How so? Notice how many open shots and open lane's there were for him because ben wallace rasheed and them were swarming tim Duncan? And once duncan was out there on there perimeter that lane wasn't so open so he had to pass it duncan for the jumper? And don't get me started on defense. Duncan set the table on both ends of the floor

Yeah we know it was tim duncan, the guy who set the table, got double and triple teamed and still managed to scored 20.4 ppg. Got ginobili all those open lanes for easy dunks. Also there's defense, duncan averaged 14 rebounds and 2.3 blocks. It's not about who's more exciting but who's the most dominant and most effective on both ends of the floor.

One of the best nba finals ever. Back when teams were aloud to play defense. Not just running up and down the court jacking up 3's. And fouls called if you breathe on someone, like now .

.. and pops couldnt find that defense, when most of the best defenders of the team were gone. It was the biggest reason, not only offense why the spurs were contenders for a long long time.
