Manila BGC was NOT what we expected! | Our honest opinion
Apparently BGC is a MUST visit place when coming to Manila Philippines, so we wanted to see what all the fuss is about!
The first place we found was The Mind Museum. This was AMAZING for kids and adults alike and is honestly one of the best family friendly museums we've been to in the world! Very interactive and a lot of fun for kids.
We then headed to try some tasty treats in a cafe called Wild Flour Cafe which sell the BEST pastries and cakes, so if you're in the area we highly recommend stopping here for your sugar and caffeine fix, before then heading to one of Manila's most unique malls - Venice Grand Mall, where we experienced their version of the Venice Grand Canal! It was a very surreal experience, but one that I would definitely recommend if you have the time. You also get a free picture at the end to take away with you and the Gondola "captains" are very funny and make it a lot of fun.

I'm a Filipino senior citizen. Watching foreigners vlogging about my country. I'm particularly immediately interested on what they got to say & I don't mind them being honest with some negatives. That's normal. But most of all, what kind of personalities they have. Andf I didn't hesitate to subscribe coz these family is so likable and relatable to really watch. So friendly. I will not be surprised if ur subscribers multiply exponentially. Keep it up guys. Love you.

Malls and cafes? 98% of locals cant even afford Starbucks or Krispy Cremes. That is why BGC still has places selling fish balls and Frird Eggs fkr dinner for those who need jeepneys and habsl habal rides to get to their cubicles in some building.

That's not the real Philippines. That's an illusion. The real Philippines are the places where the waiters, security guards, cooks, boat rowers, sales girls, the construction workers who built them lives, commute, eat, and sleep. In the last 6 years the previous government borrowed 450 billion US dollars to finance projects that promotes the tourism industry such as roads, over passes, skyways with glowing lights and electrification to the direction of formerly farm or beach areas purchased by corporations that operates shopping malls, hotels, resorts and tourism businesses. Tourism is not a bad idea. But it creates only low paying jobs and lesser revenue compared to Agriculture, and production factories and manufacturing Industries that create high paying jobs and bring in the real big revenues. Sadly the previous administration did not build a single irrigation dam nor a single rice and copra drying and storage facilities nor a single farm to market road added as requested by farm cooperative and yet it buried our country to insurmountable debt way below our credit line or borrowing capacity. It's only the present administration that is now struggling very hard to balance and correct the misdeeds of the previous administration and the deficiencies of the other administrations in the past 30 years. Hopefully it's not too late for the Philippines.

Just curious. Can you recommend places a mature adult couple who love to dance and enjoy romantic places to enjoy in BGC that is not full of jumping teens.
The Philippines is an exotic paradise islands and the huge cities are very modern and progressive. Sad to know that foreign media for decades tells only bad things about the Philippines. See for yourself and enjoy the beautiful Philippines 🇵🇭

Agreed. And I find it condescending for foreign vloggers to say and put in their title "We did not expect this in the Philippines (in an ignorant way)." That is plainly ignorant on their side. What did they expect to see in the Philippines? Slums and slums and slums? If so then why did they even bother to come here? Very ignorant and condescending. Foreign vloggers should not have a pre concept of a country before setting foot in it. Also, please foreign vloggers come up with a well thought out title because that "... we did not expect this..." line is becoming worn out and lazily put out just yo have a title.

Mmmm I would both agree and disagree with you here. Everyone is allowed to have certain preconceptions of a country. It doesn't mean they are negative. If you ask many Americans about England they think we all live near big ben and have tea with the queen 🤣. I have travelled to many countries where it has surprised me that its not quite how I thought it would be. That doesn't mean that what I thought was that it was going to be bad (if that we're true I wouldn't have gone there in the first place). The Philippines for example, in my mind previously is what I have seen online which is beautiful islands, jungle, beaches etc. and when we went to Siargao that's what we experienced, however we hadn't seen much about Manila so when we visited we were surprised by how many awesome things to do there is and it made us want to come back again 🤷 I'd say that's a good thing personally, and that's exactly why we travel. To experience new places and see them as they really are, not what we're seeing though our screens.
@marissab.7318

Good to hear what you personally meant with "expect" in your title. Most foreign vloggers mean it in a condescending and ignorant way. The term "expect" has been overused, lazily used and condescendingly used by a lot of foreign vloggers in their titles. Glad to know that you have positive views of the Philippines in general.
@WhereNextFamily
Жыл бұрын
@Marissa B. Absolutely. We love the Philippines. Previously we loved it for the islands and the people, but since visiting Manila we can say we also love it for its Cities (at least Manila anyway as we haven't explored the other cities). That being said I think it should also be noted that most of the time when vloggers use titles about being "shocked" or "surprised" by a place it makes the title more intriguing to people as its not clear whether it's a positive or negative. Therefore getting more views. More views = more positive press for that place so there are some benefits to everyone for using those kinds of titles. I do however get your point and I'm sorry if you felt we spoke out of ignorance. Have a wonderful day ❤

Reverse culture shock is real. The Philippines is very noisy it's true. Background noise slaps you in the face starting at the airport. Tricycle noise wakes me up in the morning and still goes late at night. Loud karaoke. Everything feels close. What locals say is far is just a few minutes walk. Humidity is another. My sweat drips from my head to my face and clothes. My hair is wet with sweat and this is in Feb. the coolest month in the Phil. Another is people everywhere. There are always people on the streets walking about, chatting, or just hanging out. The Philippines is a rich sensory experience, high energy especially in big cities within Metro Manila. Crowds everywhere. Another is food. We can eat anything in the Philippines. Local and native, Western food. The range of food choices there is huge. Lastly Filipinos are very open and friendly, easy-going and casual.

Philippines is now building a city within a city. More are coming to be finished every year Even in the big cities like Cebu and Davao, Cagayan de Oro and others. They are on right track to beautify, and business is booming anywhere. Building constructions can be seen anywhere even in small towns We hope the government continue to remove hanging cables and in power in the streets and other eyesores Bring the illegal houses around to a place good for them to live happily and with their works and businesses is present . God bless peace around the world. We are world, save our places to live anywhere on earth . Stop the wars that causes so much people in pain, hungers and discomfort. Leaders must act now before its too late.

well-taken cared of dogs depend on where you are in Manila. it's BGC, it's a posh area so naturally, animals are gonna have owners that can afford to take care of them well, but if you go to poorer areas, stray dogs are everywhere. even dogs in some average household/neighborhood would normally be caged and would only let out if it's bath time or if they need to go to the bathroom. in some homes, dogs are not caged and they have the free roam of the house. walking dogs outside posh areas are not really a thing because they are just let out in the streets and they are called or they come back on their own to eat. some people who don't let their dogs out freely, for one reason or another, still walk their dogs though...
