Honestly, other than the weird passport hold (what’s that all about) the transfer seems comparable to Newark when connecting. Ok, but not really designed for intra-terminal transfers. It would be great if there was seamless access to all terminals landside so one could check out the other terminals during a layover. It was a treat to see you go down to tarmac level, I’ve always wanted to use those escalators.

Are they putting a Business Class Lounge in T1 for passengers with a PAL International connection? Or do you still have to bus over to T2 and then back again? We have a 6 hour layover there in October, on our way to Canada.

@paololim3513 Thank you. Since I posted my question, I did see elsewhere information that PAL were constructing a new international lounge in T1, that would be opening " later in the year," (which could be any time between now and December 31st. ☺️) All I am really interested in is avoiding the rigamarole of having to go around to T2 and then going back to T1. If there is one in T1 that PAL gains access into, I really don't care who owns it. Just as long as my partner and I can gain access to a lounge, to relax, before starting the 2nd stage of our 26 hour trip. ( All with PAL.)

@@Bellakelpie, the thing about that is you need to do that when transferring between domestic and international. T2 was created in the first place to minimise the inconvenience of such and now they have to split the terminal up again.

NAIA's Terminal 1 is entirely in Parañaque, Terminal 2 is in the city boundary of Pasay and Parañaque, and Terminals 3 and 4 are entirely in Pasay. If all those terminals are connected without leaving security, I hope the Metro Manila Subway will connect those terminals, except Terminal 4 which is separate and still handles only domestic flights. The other 3 terminals handle both domestic and international flights.

@@pennyfitzgeraldfangumball2024, I know that Terminal 1 is dedicated entirely to Philippine Airlines that serves both domestic and long distance international flights including 2 in Canada and 4 in the US (HNL, LAX, SFO, YVR, YYZ & JFK). Terminal 2 is mainly for domestic flights. Terminal 3 is mainly international handling multiple airlines to multiple international destinations and even serves 9 Middle Eastern destinations (MCT, DXB, AUH, DOH, BAH, DMM, KWI, RUH & JED) and Istanbul (IST). I know I don't have a lot of research, but what else I need to say?

MNL is bad for international or even domestic connections because the terminals are not interconnected. That could be a reason for taking your passport until ready to board the transfer bus. US isn't any better. Try arriving intl flights to any gateway cities in the US and transit for an intl flight. Miami was hell from So Am to Canada, 3 hours to get through immigration, customs, security, took me 3 hours to get to my next flight at another terminal, with only 5 minutes to spare.

Manila is one of some cities with only one commercial airport. Other cities only having one commercial airport are Dublin, Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney, just to name a few. NAIA (MNL) is the only commercial airport serving Metro Manila located in Pasay and Parañaque. All 4 terminals are not connectable in one without leaving security, except Terminals 1 and 2 are connectable with each other without leaving security. If you want to get to Terminals 3 and 4 from Terminals 1 or 2, amd vice versa, you need to check in security. There will be 2 new airports that can help decongest NAIA. One of them is Sangley Point Airport in Cavite City, Cavite in the southwest right by the Manila Bay, but currently it still handles general aviation, but the expansion of becoming a commercial airport is still under construction and is officially Manila's second airport, but I don't know when will the expansion of Sangley Point Airport be complete. The 3rd airport on the other hand is Bulacan/New Manila International Airport in Bulakan, Bulacan in the northwest also right by the Manila Bay, but is still under construction and is expected to be complete by 2026. You know, when Manila is served by 3 airports in the future, NAIA's destination name is still "Manila", but I'd rather rename that "Manila-NAIA". As for the 2 new airports, Sangley Point's destination name will be "Manila-Cavite" and Bulacan's airport will have a destination name called "Manila-Bulacan". What do you think of that?
