The Manics' lineup has only ever changed three times: Back in their early days as a trio they added a bass player who didn't stay on for too long, but then as a trio again, added Richey Edwards as a rhythm guitarist and co-lyricist who made significant contributions to the band and stayed on until early 1995 when he disappeared and has never been seen since. In 1996 the band, now a trio again, came back with "A Design For Life" and has been that way since.

What's the problem with the line "So if I can shoot rabbits/Then I can shoot fascists"? The song is about the Spanish Civil War and against fascism. Because in Spain we say "el fascismo no se debate, se le combate": Fascism is not debatable, it is fought. The song title is taken from a poster of the Republican band with the corpse of a child in Madrid and behind him the Nazi planes in the sky. The title of the song is taken from a poster of the Republican side with the corpse of a child in Madrid and behind it the Nazi planes in the sky. Don't look the other way when there is injustice in the world, as today in so many places (Ukraine, the Zionist genocide, the rise of the ultra-right, etc), act or tomorrow it will be too late.

That's kind of the message. It was about Welsh farmers being sold on the reason to fight in the Spanish Civil War as if the fascist won then the farmer's kids could be next.

The song title is taken from a Republican propaganda poster by the rebels who fought against the fascist dictator Franco in the 1930s. The songwriter was impressed with the bravery of these volunteers who fought in the Spanish civil war to protect the future of their children and doubts he could have the same courage(gravity keeps my head down or is it maybe shame). In a way it’s about modern day apathy to societal problems as opposed to the idealism and courage of past generations.

“Faster” is another really great tune you should check out. It’s punkier but the music is awesome. Many other great tunes also though Revol Kevin Carter Everything must go Tsunami You stole the sun from my heart So why so sad Let Robeson sing Glasnost It’s not war just the end of love Some kind of nothingness Door to the river People give in Orwellian Complicated Illusions etc… Their great b-sides would be another long list but you get the idea. They explore a lot of different styles of music so I would recommend checking out their entire back catalogue. I personally was not into their first album but Motorcycle Emptiness was exceptionally good of course
