The Holy Bible is their best album. That doesn't belittle any of their other albums. Kevin Carter is my favourite song. This is my favourite album.

The way he's able to write fresh music every time, all in a standard tuning too.

That solo is phenomenal. 10/10.

Another great choice of Manics tune. The album in general is a masterpiece, but it's like watching Schindler's List. Both almost perfect as pieces of art, but you have to be in the right headspace to appreciate them. Also, it's Richey Edwards. James was his middle name. 👍

I remember their name from back in the day but never listened to them. That was terrific.

I first saw The Manics live in 1992-ish when Richey Edwards ( one of the main lyricists/roadie/van driver/ _guitarist_ ) was still part of the band before he disappeared. Fantastic live back then definitely not shabby now

Still know all the words from when I was a teenager (twenty-something years ago!). I live and breathe this band. Great to hear it talked about. Thank you.

I still have a good collection of vinyl and CDs of their music. I saw them live in, I think it was, 1994. I also think Sean Moore is an under-rated drummer.

This is my favourite of their songs lyrically. It reads like a poem without even any melody or rhythm. I love richey edwards and I miss him a shit ton.

Thankfully got to see this album performed live in full. Blacked out and ended up in hospital during the second set, I'm so rock and roll! lol!

Thanks for bringing up the issue of Bradfield's guitar playing. I also adore his style. To me he is the master of the fiery 'mini solo', and all of his solos are very memorable, almost 'composed'. Also one has to keep in mind that he's been the only guitarist in the band for the longest time now, so fulfilling rhythm guitar and lead at the same time!!

Privelaged to have been to a gig ( one of their many ) for the holy bible anniversary tour.... was absolutely fucking phenomenal.

It sure was - I was in the Edinburgh one sadly surrounded by people who had never heard it!

Strangely I found ‘everything must go ‘just as dark , the single releases were catchy but invited you into the deceptive darkness of the rest of the album.

definitely - Richey wrote 5 of the songs which helped.

Amazing band, amazing song.

This solo kicks any other's ass. Redeeming lyrics.

I was always convinced the lyrics was "electric guitars " not "manic street preachers "

I have all 4 member's autographs.

Great that the USA is cottoning onto The Manics. Just a shame that you (understandably) omitted the biggest factor for The Holy Bible album. Mr Richard James Edwards. JDB never writes music without lyrics. On this album, Richey contribution was 75%+ and the reason why a lot of James's words are indecipherable is because of lyrics being crammed in rather than in a simple song format. Richey went missing on 1st February 1995 and hasn't been seen or found anywhere since. He is presumed dead. Only his sister now survives him as both parents have passed away during the last 10 years. Oh btw. I named my son Richard James upon his birth in May 1998.

Having got almost all the Manic Street Preachers albums, they flick between a commercial bias to a deep fan biased album, each genre has it's own merit. The Holy Bible is certainly very deep. Thanks for the reaction.

My favorite track from that masterpiece of album, by the way the US mix of the 10th Anniversary edition sounds LETHAL and i think a bit better than the original.

The base line is the first I ever learnt how to play. Underated just from thr sheer mence in it! Fun fact it's using a purposefully detuned base which gives its sloppy sound

In all honesty, the US version of the album is better than the UK version. The Manics were very surprised at that. Tom Lord Algae was the producer (I think that's his name)

The manics helped me through a really tough time. The holy bible is brilliant, disturbing, mind bending, angry, thought provoking. I guess like any religious book/ scripture?

I've never really agreed with the pro death penalty stance of this song. However, especially into days society. We seem to be obsessed with the killers, and pay no interest in the victim. The one message, I do agree with is, it's the victims that should be in our thoughts.

I remember getting a Best of Year-type compilation album for 1994 and noting this as the stand-out song, which led me to being a Manics fan for the next coupe of albums. I wasn't quite sold on the lyrics, but I loved the tune and the tricks they played on the meter of the verse. Later on I'd be struck by the absence of communist leaders in their list of murderers, but then discovered that the band are avowed Marxists, so I suppose they would like to keep quiet about that...

The song is about capital punishment. They are in favor of it, or at least were when they wrote this.

Great song from a great album. Richey Edwards most reactionary lyrics by far - very at odds with the classic quite from Oscar Wilde at the start lol

It’s not an Oscar Wilde quote……it is a quote by one of the Mothers who’s daughter was murdered by Peter Sutcliffe The Yorkshire Ripper after his trial.
