That power refuses to go out.
thanks for uploading this. I live in Junction City. This freakin tornado hit Chapman as an EF3, lifted up just as it was about to cross the highway here, and then dropped right back down on west Manhattan as an EF4. Truly incredible. Not only do tornadoes hit one house and miss the other, they hit one city, and skip entire other ones.
The camera was never pointed south enough for the tornado to come in from the right - it tore a pretty straight path from southwest Manhattan to just past campus, which is almost exactly the center of the city. So essentially what you are seeing is the tornado coming straight at the camera almost the whole time, although it does appear that the rain sweeps from right to left.
When things got intense, that camera toughed it out for about 40 seconds, then said "fuck this, I'm out bitches."
My mom and I drove from Manhattan back to our home (40 minute drive) during this storm. So scary when it's night time and you're not able to see any activity.
I live in Manhattan north of its path. The area it traveled is hilly and I think it lifted up a few times. Miller ranch got hit hard along with true value hardware and KSU. Scary for sure! I feel Manhattan got lucky that night. It could have been a lot worse.
When ever they say Manhattan, I keep thinking of Manhattan, New York when its really Kansas. xD
The clearest depiction of the tornado is at 3:24. It is directly in the middle of the shot.
wow those lightning flashes are bright if you can get lucky and pause it when they flash the whole town is lit!!! there must have been some great lightning just behind where this camera was..how could that weatherman not tell those were power flashes...
yes, and then, i'm assuming, west Manhattan would look FAR worse than it was. My god, more than just Waters (a store) would've been blown away completely.
That's some scary stuff right there.
indeed. Pesky ways of getting attention (which is what pattybyler attempted) is no match for trusty knowledge at your side.
