This is a serious matter. Think about it guys. If he was hired to interpret for a Deaf person that was about to go into surgery and the Doctor asks if he is allergic to latex or any other substance, it would not be interpreted correctly and that VITAL information would be missed. Then it wouldn't be funny now would it? In the code of ethics for interpreting you are not supposed to take a job you are not qualified for.

It wasn't ASL. I couldn't discern one word. Sign Language varies from one country to the next & his "signs" were very repetitive which I think is more likely fraudulent. Sign Language is very colourful in its expression & its vocabulary is immense.

Every country (pretty much) has a different sign language. South Africans have their own sign language. I've seen it and it is obvious it is a real language. His was obviously not, even to the untrained eye.

Unfortunately there is so much corruption our people are getting screwed out of the things that they were promised (in return for a vote) and it is becoming harder for the average income earner to help the people in real need as the current government is using a large amount if not most of the income to better their own lives which is quickly crippling our economy.

Because communication isn't a laughing matter, especially when you're part of an oppressed minority. Yes, that's right; Deaf people are an oppressed minority that deserve respect, not to laugh off the fact that their access to communication was horribly messed up. How would you feel if you had to watch the entire service with no sound...you would have to read the lips of the person talking...and half the time you can't see their lips or face? What if the entire service were conducted in Martian, and you don't speak a word of Martian? THAT is how a Deaf person is forced to live every day when they interact with people who do not know American Sign Language (or the equivalent in other countries). You effectively isolate them from communication and information. That's why it's a big deal, and NO I won't laugh it off and "God bless."

Not possible. If he was a qualified interpreter then he would have used the signed language of the country he is in, in this case a South African dialect. And also, there are specific language rules that apply to signed languages such as non manual features; your facial expressions, and how the signs are produced with orientation and movement and location etc. He didn’t follow any of these rules. He is not fit to be an interpreter. I am an interpreter myself, in Australia and I interpret Auslan (from English or into English) thus I have studied all this. I am not a fake like this fella.

At this level you simply don't make mistakes, the very fact he was employed was a massive joke in the first place.
