Remember Mandalorian is Creed not a race or single unified cultural. So for the people Din came from (like nearly half the cultures on present day Earth) the last or family name comes first. Meaning when one follows The Way, it doesn't mean they have to give up their original people's beliefs or traditions, as long as they do not conflict with The Way of the Mandolore.

Well that and they used digital Vaseline to make him look much younger. So you realize he is using clones, not unlike Dr. Cylo in the Vader comic.
Favorite season so far, I love how we got to explore Mandalorian culture more and watch them rebuild themselves. I also loved how Moth stole the Mandalorian style and made Imperial versions of their armor, felt like a serious threat

I agree despite it not being my favorite season.
Din is also a foundling, his name isn't Mandalorian in origin, it comes from his family's culture. Also, humans on Earth don't ALL have names that are in GivenName Surname order. Some groups use the mother's name, some the father's, some put the family name first and the given name last. So Din Grogu is perfectly acceptable. It's also possible that Foundling naming is different than bloodline naming. Blood family = Given name first. Foundlings = Surname first. PS I think Dad-alorian is a good nickname

Oooh I see. Like Din could be his surname or whatever so it’s the name Grogu takes presumably because he’s a foundling. Reminds me a bit of the chis and how their naming system works. Like with Thrawn his house name comes first. I won’t try to spell the whole name, but you get my point.
@lorenzwinterhoff8049

@@madelinegarber7860 Exactly, Din could be the surname. Or maybe it is Mando's first name, and the tradition is that foundlings take their adoptive parent's given name as a surname. We haven't really been given an in depth look at that particular aspect of Mando culture before, so it's not set in stone.
@madelinegarber7860

@@lorenzwinterhoff8049 ah ok. That’d make sense. They should address that at some point. Mando culture is fascinating. It’s one of the reasons I liked this season more than a lot of people.

2:04 the part where the Praetorian Guards walk in from nowhere is so badass
Grogu’s little slide gets me every time
The explanation for changing Grogu’s name to Din Grogu is that Din Djarin was also a foundling, and was taken into the Mandalorian culture at an older age after his rescue…he knew his birth name which he kept as a foundling…and in his culture, the family name is listed first…thus Din Grogu is his son’s name…
@madelinegarber7860

But then wouldn’t Djarin still be Grogu’s last name since Din already knew his birth name when he was taken in? But I like that they were both foundlings who were taken in by Mandos.

@Madeline Garber no, because in his culture, like in japan the surname is usually spoken first while the given name is said secondly. Mando didnt come from mandalore or concordia so his name structure is slightly different from them.

At 12:00 - 12:15 when Moff Gidion speaks of Mandalorians becoming weak when they lose their “trinkets” could be a reference to Mandalor the Ultimate losing his mask to Revan in the Mandalorian Wars from Legends. The reason that Grogu is now Din Grogu is that Din is in fact Mando's last name. There are certain cultures here on Earth where your surname comes first (China, Korea, and Japan for example). Maybe Din Djarin's original family culture had the same thing!
@MxPotato84
Жыл бұрын
But we hear Bo-Katan call him Din very casually several times. So everyone assumed it was his first name. In the past i have looked up the name Djarin and it is in fact a surname. I mean, Bo-Katan isn’t a surname, Satine isn’t a surname, nor Axe, Paz, and Sabine are surnames. Those surnames are Kryze, Woves, Vizula, and Wren.
@haydendegrow945
Жыл бұрын
@@MxPotato84 again, maybe the parents Djarin was BORN to (his biological family) had that naming structure in their culture (it might have been different than others on Concordia, we don't know much about them YET) and that's how he learned his name. As for people calling him by his last name, Din, several people, especially in media, are known by their surnames. Indiana Jones, for example! Does everybody call him Indiana? No, most people call him by Jones or Dr. Jones! Same thing with Sherlock Holmes! Maybe bo-Katan, because she didn't have much respect for Din Djarin until recently, just called him by his surname as an impersonal way of talking to him!
@ryandegrave8978
Жыл бұрын
@@MxPotato84 Calling people by their family name is common and in the case of Bo-Katan calling him Din, it may just be that she's using the naming structure she's familiar with. She may not have even been aware that Din was his family name. How would she know where he was from or how naming structure works in his culture? Where did you learn that Djarin is a surname? I couldn't find anything to corroborate this claim. The other examples you gave of Mandalorian surnames are just that- Mandalorian. Unlike the members of Clan Wren, Clan Kryze, and Clan Vizsla, Din Djarin is not from Mandalore. By the way, Satine is named after Ewan McGregor's character's secret lover from Moulin Rouge. Since we're talking about how Mandalorians get their names, I just thought I'd mention that because it shows how silly it is to try to get technical when talking about fictional cultures.
I really loved this finale. It had its flaws to be sure and I wish it was a little longer, but it just made me so happy. The music was amazing and the action scenes were so badass and well done. This was definitely Grogu’s episode and I’m not complaining. Those poor frogs are never gonna get another peaceful moment.

About Din's Name...all the mandalorians you listed, Like Bo kartan or the Vizlas are born mandalorians, which means their families are rooted in mandalorian culture. Djarin in the Other hand is a foundling from another Planet; from a Family rooted in one of that planet's culture. IT IS, AS far as I remember, Not stated, that He was adopted, they only mention his master and that Djarin created His own Clan , when He defeated the mudhorn. Hence i would say djarin's original Family seems To BE from a culture which states the Surname First (Korea: Yang Wen-li) and the other mandalorians are originally from a culture which states the Surname Last (GB: Alexander Bucock) Probably our fault, for thinking in one direction from the beginning....but nice move by Star wars creators

Do Not watch if you haven't seen episode 8, This is mislabeled.
So I don’t know if I misheard but at the end when they’re redoing the ceremony for Ragnar, they didn’t mention the part about him having to keep the helmet on. Which if that’s true then cool that they changed it to accept every mandalorian as ones who follow the way, helmet or not

You didn’t mishear…the Armorer omitted the last part of the Children of the Watch ceremony, allowing for the possibility of removing the helmet…
Season 2's finale was great, 💖 the best Disney production. Disappointment city afterwards ☹
The name thing is simple really. In Din's native culture (where he actually got his name) the surname comes first like in Japanese. As a Foundling, the Mandalorians respected this culture and didn't change his name. And knowing this, the Armorer named Grogu the same way.

I just realized this, thought of this. I think, I mean really believe the Armorer knows what species Grogu is AND (again I think an believe) where he is from, like where the planet is. Because how she responded to Djarin saying: “yes, but his parents are far from here, if they are even alive”.
What about the cameo & the scratched trooper helmet in the new republic cafe/meeting
My thoughts on season 3? 1) It was slow and rambling 2) they turned Din from a kick-ass bounty hunter into a someone who can't win a fight without Bo-Katan to save his bacon. (I lost count of the times that she did this)

Din Djarin in season 3 was the most badass Mandalorian we've ever seen. I don't know what show you were watching.
Din Djarrin was his name before he was rescued and made a Foundling, its reasonable to assume that the family name first was common in his original culture
The Mandalorian will return
Things we missed are always the most obvious ones 🤣 love your channel for real though!
Amazing video Rebecca from watch mojo of recapping the event in the mandalorian season 3 season finale,fantastic job.
The Skywalker lightsaber was fixed so, the Darksaber might be repaired as well.🛠🗡🔄
It’s Din Grogu because Mando isn’t Mandalorian by blood. Adopted Mandalorians surnames are placed first, so Mando’s surname is actually Din
The Daddylorian
I enjoyed this season finale. However, I am sad that the Darksaber was destroyed, especially since it is my 2nd favorite lightsaber in the entire franchise.
Din Djarin's birth culture could use the same type of naming customs that the Japanese do, with the family name first with the given name second.

I hope ragnar will inherit paz vizsla's armor when he's older.
The darksaber being destroyed reminded me of the last jedi when Anakin's lightsaber was destroyed. I don't think that either of those iconic lightsabers should have been destroyed
Season 3 was a very mixed bag and the rumors of problems with Kennedy and her trying to drive Favreau out Lucas Film seem to have some truth. The ending of season 3 seemed more like the ending to the series in more ways than one. Again giving serious weight to stories of Favreau and probably Filoni leaving (or being driven out by Kennedy) The Mandalorian entirely for the Ashoka show.

The note it ends on really gives the feel of "it could be cancelled but we don't know." There's still the movie that Filoni is supposed to direct and I'd like to say that they'll go at least one more season to at least wrap up Grogu's story.

I honestly think everyone is over thinking things. Just because Din Djarin was a member of death watch doesnt entirely mean hes a native mandalorian. Either its the tradition of his original people or his masters to put the surname first. Vizla, Krese and Wren are all native Mandalorians and the house name is last but what if a Mon Calamari or Hutt were also inducted? The naming convention would conform to their culture too
