You are so right... I think his brother is overrated and he get all the attention, leaving his brother in the background. It's just my opinion of course. I hope that he will win Oscar this year and people will finally see Casey as a great actor.

Gordana Naumovska I don't think Ben is overrated. He's a brilliant actor too, I loved him in Gone Girl and Batman v Superman most recently; and he is also a very talented director (Gone Baby Gone is my favorite.) But Casey definitely deserves more recognition because he is just as good as Ben if not better.

The scene where Lee's ex-wife is apologizing to him and tells him she still loves him was some of the best acting I've ever seen. I sobbed the whole time. It showed how much pain Casey Affleck's character was in. Yes, he is a much, much better actor than his more famous brother.

Not really one of the films of the decade! Come on! One of the best in the past 4 months, sure. But there are many great American indie films, eg Paterson, starring Adam Driver as a bus driver in NJ, I Am Not a Serial Killer is also great, if a bit different. Manchester is shot beautifully, it's often quiet and it employs nice outdoor shots and is naturalistic in all respects. There is no over-acting. Casey Affleck is capable of great nuance, as one would need to be when playing one who is basically inexpressive and taciturn in nature. Sure, it's a very fine film.

I can only count in my one bare hand how many times he laugh or smile in this movie. After I have watched the movie, I can say why Casey is swiping out all the awards for Best Actor. Its a home run for Affleck. An Oscar lock. The police station scene, the bar fights are seemed real. This is Affleck's best movie to date. Go and watch the film. Highly Recommended.

the dialogue and the performances here are just incredible, i don't think i've seen a movie dealing with this kind of subject matter yet feeling so real. everything is imperfect, lines are never written just to be smart or heroic or fall into other cliches that make them feel like only someone in a movie would ever say. it helps the plot hit you really, really freaking hard. phenomenal piece in my opinion

Yes, I agree, the part where he comes across Michelle Williams' character, where she tries to reconcile is hard to watch in its awkwardness. I gather that is post the 'disaster' which was due to his carelessness when he went out for beers. However, Williams is not really used a great deal. She's had some duds as men hasn't she? In film I mean: Brokeback Mountain, she was with Ennis who preferred to 'mount' Jake, Blue Valentine she had Ryan Gosling who was unambitious and too blue-collar for her nursing ambitions. Fine actress though. I found the barroom fight scenes hard to watch, myself. He smashes two drinkers for looking at him. Did they give him a 'gay' look or something?
