Managers vs Players, Hat-Trick Heroes & Spurs Better Without Kane | EP 14

Спорт

Should managers ever publicly criticise players? Has Evan Ferguson got a bit of Erling Haaland about him? And is it possible that Spurs could become a better all -round team without Harry Kane?
Gary also explains how the Match of the Day running order is chosen and why your team isn't always last on!

    As a Brentford fan, I've never felt aggrieved if Brentford appeared later in the program. And often there have been several times where Brentford got a look in and often had a good deep dive into their performance. In fact I remember a number of occasions where Shearer has been incredibly complimentary about Brentford. So yeah, I've never understood people getting upset about this.

    Top teams get more analysis. They're usually the story. I get it, but it does quite get quite annoying for the rest. For example, the Chelsea vs Forest match became a story about Chelsea being in crisis and Forest being a footnote. Match of the Day was actually very good about giving them their dues on Saturday, but most other media pundits will focus and have focused on Chelsea, the money spent etc.

  • @cobyaspin960

    @cobyaspin960

    9 ай бұрын

    Because the majority of fans arent bothered about Forest, theyre bothered about the top 6 clubs and how they all compete. If you manage to break into that conversation like Leicester for example did for a couple seasons then you have to establish yourself and stay in that conversation. Newcastle are a perfect example right now, a poor season from them can push them out of these conversations and analysis. Thats just the way it is unfortunately

  • @elephantjuice2183

    @elephantjuice2183

    @@cobyaspin960 I think the majority of people who don't support a top 6 side understand the reasons why. Whether that's right or wrong probably depends on if you support a team in the top 6 or not, or if you have a monetary stake in the story.

    Every week is the man united show, seemingly in every outlet. When they are playing well, great, more stories on them getting beat. But when they've been shit since fergie left, everyone just needs to give it a rest. Nobody cares, or do they? Teams playing brilliantly and beating them becomes a story about how poor man united are. It's boring.

    Loving the podcast. Micah's example of Mancini with him isn't the same as ETH with Sancho though. Mancini was obviously wrong with what he thought but ETH has given Sancho more than enough chances to prove himself and he clearly isn't repaying him for it. There are videos of Sancho half heartedly doing push ups in training and that's probably what he is like in all aspects of training. He was previously fined by Dortmund for similar reasons and turning up late. Also arrived late to an England camp as well. There comes a time when someone who is clearly a very good footballer believes his own hype too much and feels he doesn't have to try, will have to accept the consequences and stop blaming everyone else. 350k a week. He should be running through brick walls for the club and it's fans, not giving the 50% he does.

    As a Spurs fan. I can tell you now. We are not better because others have taken responsibility or that Son is now the main man. 1. Sonny does not think that and never has wanted to. 2. Ange is the biggest difference to what we have had in the last 3 years. 3. Maddison is utter class. I couldn’t imagine the amount of goals Kane would be scoring if he was here this season. It would have been a race between him and Haaland. Of that I have no doubt.

  • @hansgruber9093

    @hansgruber9093

    Quite. This is little to do with Kane, as evidenced by the Shakhtar game in pre season where he scored 4 and him and Maddison were combining like a dream. I have no doubt that he would have feasted this season and Spurs would have started even better with him in the side. Kane's reason for dropping deep in previous years was because since selling Eriksen we've had no creative fulcrum so Kane has had to become both main creator and main scorer. Maddison's arrival would have caused him to stay much more in the box and probably score double the goals. What might have been.

    On the VAR decisions, I think some of the VARs are over-thinking things. The Akanji offside should have been an easy call to make. Basically, in my opinion, if Akanji wasn't there, the keeper saves that header as he has more than enough time to get across and make the save. It's only because Akanji is there that the keeper hesitates before making his move and ends up conceding the goal.

I scored a goal the season after and then a couple after that Bering in mind I play as a full back/centre back the latter for this game. Scored a hattrick, they were all penalties but they still count. Because I’d taken over as manager the season or so before in the return fixture I put myself up top and scored 4 😂. 2 more pens. Finished as top scorer while playing CB most of the season.

    He also drops deep for England where we don't lack for creativity. He drops deep because he wants to. He likes it.

    With Son, Kulu, Solomon, and Perisic, (who seems to play better in the new system) the front line is looking pretty lethal anyway based on the past few rounds. Hopefully, Richarlson can find form and add to that depth. Johnson could be a good signung but will see how he performs.

    He drops deep for England because Southgate refuses to play creative players in the middle like Maddison and Foden, leaving Kane to do all the heavy lifting in that regard like he does at Spurs. If you watch Kane for Bayern he stays in the box because that's what the manager's asked of him.@@NeilLewis77

    He drops deep because he doesn't have the pace to break the line

    Son's situation (after Kane) is a bit like Benzema after C Ronaldo left, enjoying becoming the main man.

    I’ve always thought the running order is a big spoiler because you know if you’re on last it’ll be a draw. If the running order was set in order of the final whistle time (as ko times can be mostly the same) it would keep the viewers guessing.
