Pep / City aren't being complacent, the Prem is just much more competitive. His entire time in England he's never had two traditional big clubs (Liverpool, Arsenal) challenging them at the same time like they are this season. City also struggle to go on their classic 12-15 win streak as a lot clubs they used to beat up on (Newcastle, Spurs, Villa, Brighton, West Ham) are well coached, have money and solid at home.

re: Klopp and the 12:30 start thing, maybe he sees those as playing a part in Matip doing his acl? If he sees that as obviously true (even if it isn't to most everyone else) then it makes a certain kind of sense that he would interpret a joke about 12:30 starts as being in poor taste.

Jurgen probably felt the journalist was making light of an issue that Jurgen takes very seriously. Jurgen's point is not the 12:30 kick-off in isolation, but how little thought is given to player welfare when the schedule is being made. By the way, he doesn't jus say it in relation to Liverpool players.

Perso I'd rather have the pundits reviews directly and get the manager's views later, but they would probably be unavailable ...

He almost died playing for us, and I don't care what anyone says, he deserved the extra time to heal. What about Everton were out the bottom three, after the victory against Newcastle Utd. We would be 10th in the league without the points deduction. Under the massive circumstances Sean Dyche is a fantastic manager. 💙⚽ Villa has really surprised me this season with the form in the league. I do feel they can challenge for the premier league title. 🤔 I am absolutely gutted for Alan that Sunderland v Newcastle in the FA Cup 3rd round won't be on the BBC for match of the day live. It's for me the best but we miss Wrighty. Still Arsenal v Liverpool is going to be a great game least we got that.🏆 It's really sad that 3.00 kick-offs for the FA Cup don't really happen anymore that was a football tradition for us fans. 😐 Oh Gary's dog Philbert farting was hilarious 🤣 surely the name is after Leicester City former ground. 🤔 I really miss the days we're we had European football coverage on the BBC. ⚽ Can't wait for Euros 2024 the draw was hilarious it had unexplainable noises I'm sure you remember the FA Cup Wolves v Liverpool last season lads. 🤣 I say give Steve Cooper time he has done a wonderful job at Nottingham forest, I can not understand the pressure he is under. Results will happen and they will improve. The answer isn't always to sack a manager.were still halfway through the season. 🤔 I do feel great sympathy for Paul Heckingbotham losing his job at Sheffield Utd. 😐 Maybe they have a chance with Chris Wilder now. 🤔 Great podcast you really brighten my days lads thank you. 😊

Sure Rodri has experience and trophies to back him up and hopefully Rice wins enough with Arsenal to build up his case more than his constant consistent high level performances that he has been having since his WH days but no one honestly watched West Haram enough. He is at The Arsenal now and hopefully they win trophies for his sake, Saka, Saliba, Odeegaard and Arteta's cases.

One way to look at it is that Villa are 4pts off the top. Another way to look at it is a fully-fit Villa squad (barring Mings and Buendia) are only 5pts ahead of a Spurs team with 9 players out and only 6pts ahead of a Newcastle team with 13 players out and Champions League football to deal with. Villa have been brilliant, but the teams you'd expect to finish above them have had some really bad luck so far.

You’re not mentioning the fact that Ramsey and Moreno have been out for the whole season too, and only just starting to get a few minutes. They were our left side in the second half of last season when we had top 2 form on points won. Villa are the real deal this time round and just haven’t moaned about injuries as much as other clubs. We have also been playing European games where Tottenham have had a nice rest during the week.

@@thewellandvalley2103 Newcastle were 2nd on boxing day last year, above Man City and they only just got over the line for 4th come the end of the season- and they had the best defence in the league and only lost 5 games all season. I understand if you're a Villa fan you're going to be buzzing at the minute because everything's going so well, but you're not "the real deal". A few weeks ago Spurs were "the real deal" until one game where it all fell apart and suddenly they're in freefall. The point I'm making is in my opinion Villa will likely go through their sticky period that Spurs and Newcastle are in now and at least one of those teams with players back fit will likely close the gap, but that's not a knock on Villa, it's good to see different sides challenging.

So when those players come back you’d expect them to improve. Newcastle had about as hard a start as you can get (including beating Villa 5-1), then had the Tonali incident, then a stupid amount of injuries while playing Champions League and they’re still only 6pts off. Villa are doing amazing and I fully expect them to finish top 6, it’s just unrealistic to think this form is sustainable for the rest of the season

Pep's a great coach no doubt. However his grasp of English is a little shaky. To be honest, unless he keeps it really simple, I find his often muddling syntax hard to follow...

Rice or Rodri... or Gundogen thats Man Citys problem. Forget about Haaland it was the later that dragged City over the Title line last year and they was happy to just let him leave .

I love the pod but you’ve missed the mark on Klopp and Mikel Arteta. Liverpool should not be playing first this weekend when they played last this week. Klopp has called them out - the PL doesn’t like it and singles Klopp out for doing so. Mikel criticise the refs, they don’t like and gets singled out.

The FA Cup TV schedule is a disgrace to be honest. People complain about there being no money in the lower leagues, and then they just ignore the non-league clubs for TV. This is why "the magic of the FA Cup" is a complete myth.

Genuinely, and people will say I’m lying and we think we’ll win every week, most city fans were expecting to lose on Wednesday. With how villa are playing and their record at home, not just Rodri but also grealish who I think are the top 2 for ball retention in the team along with Bernardo silva. I knew it would be a long day. We’re so dominant because we hold on to the ball and never lose it and wear teams down but this sort of smash and grab football ere playing with foden doku alavarez and haaland as a front 4 who are all destructive players but not necessarily great for ball retention ( barring foden) just isn’t working. It leaves Rodri and usually the back 2 vulnerable when Akanji is on the edge of their box and we’re just getting destroyed in counter attacks. I think the main issue is playing Alvarez in midfield, he’s an unreal player but he’s a back up striker and he’s not good enough to be in midfield. Said it so many times that grealish should be in midfield with foden and Rodri. My opinion is that pep promised Walker and Alvarez more game time in order for them to extend their contracts because bayern were sniffing round for both in the summer and now he’s worried bout them becoming restless and moving on but they should both be dropped for the time being

I have so much respect for all of you, and adore this podcast, but the part about Klopp is uneducated. Liverpool have had more than double the amount of 12:30pm kickoffs than the second most (playing over 50% of all 12:30pm kickoffs in the Prem since 2017-2018) and his center back, Matip, has just done his cruciate. The reality is it's simply not a fair distribution of kickoff times, and the impacts are taking their toll on the Liverpool squad. I don't believe Klopp reacted because he's playing at 12:30pm and it's the end of the world, I'm pretty sure he reacted because he doesn't think it's funny that his team is playing at 12:30pm significantly more than everybody else. Klopp has made his feelings of concern about the scheduling and its lack of fairness abundantly clear and has received stick for it, despite the obvious numerical evidence in his favor, so I don't blame him for sticking up for his beliefs when the presenter poked fun at him. Look at the numbers and apprehend the context of the situation before unfairly slating him even more than you have done for his comments previously.

I don't think they slated him. They made a valid point that Klopp's reaction could be seen as excessive. I agree with Jurgen about the scheduling and there's a time to raise it as a valid thing. A journo making a lighthearted comment about it really wasn't the issue Liverpool face, even if Klopp might feel, with some justification perhaps, that it isn't a funny issue from Anfield's perspective.
