After a phenomenal 1-3 win in Paris, I trying to track down the first Man Utd game I watched. This is the game. First time I watch United, and the game made me fell in love since then.

I’ll bet you hated the 5-0 defeat to Newcastle later on in the season.

That 2nd goal was absolute bliss..!! The class of 92' + Eric "the King" Cantona.. Classic United..!!

God I loved football back then, everything about it, great.

I feel the same, and it makes me feel so old. Because I remember football pundits from the mid 90's - early 2000's talking about how great the game was in the 60's & 70's. But there really were class players in the 90's, but today its about fitness & tactics, back then it was about individual skill & creativity, back between 1990 - 2010 there were so many No.10s, playmakers & creative players, like Cantona, Beckham, Scholes, Hagi, Zidane, Bakero, Ginola, Riquelme, Zola, Juninho, Deco, etc... back then it was like watching football, today it's like watching a men's track & field race.

I remember this match in my school summer holidays, I was only 12. It was the summer when Shearer decided to join his boyhood team Newcastle instead of Man Utd. I think it was a record £15m back then. Was so sad he didn’t join us but I guess he followed his heart, not his head

Sadly people forget because of how it ended with him at Sky but at his peak he was an amazing co-commentator.

Far from it, I remember us losing 3 in quick succession that season, 5-0 to Newcastle, 6-3 to Southampton, and 2-1 to Chelsea. We weren't "untouchable", we were just better than every other team in the EPL at the time.. well, for 20 years :p

Season 97/98 is rebuilding...class '92 still growing...this season arsenal winner EPL with Arsene wenger...After that was the era of Man United ... with an arsenal that was always following

Beckham and Keane goals are amazing.

Cantona and Becks played on the same team. Good gawd.

Forgot about that save from Schmeichelat at 4:24 Wow.

That Beckham - Cantona chemistry was insane.

I miss them days great times in the 90s

I play 5 a side football and I point if someone is in a better position 😂 it's one of the easier parts of the game, pointing lol.

i just love this. its no wonder man u dominate for so long. as a complete neutral this is so good. i just dont like football nowadays . way preferred it then and up to about 2000/2001. just such a more different feel to it here

Highlights don't show how easy it was. I was there and I thought if United tried, they could have had ten. Shearer made such a good choice. 😉

Manchester United could have Beaten Juventus Twice & Beat Borussia Dortmund To Win The Champions League! Wouldn't Have Lost To Wimbledon In The FA Cup & Wouldn't Have Gone Out Early In The League Cup! Shearer Could Have Been A Premier League Winner 5 Times!

There was such a buzz about this season, coming straight after Euro 96. And this was a spectacular way to start it (for us at least). In the end it was quite an average Premier League season... oh well.

Agreed about the post ‘96 excitement. The “Express train to stop at Old Trafford” headlines regarding UTD signing of Poborsky. Liverpool signed Berger. The 15M pound Shearer. Great memories

Newcastle didn’t turn up for this game despite it being Shearer’s debut. Keegan had not learned anything from his leaky defence.

Beckhams lob reminds me of phillipe alberts lob on that tragic tragic day. That 5-0 was up there with the most painful defeats i ever remember

first who scored was eric cantona then it was nicky butt with a header and then young david beckham scored and lobbed the goalkeeper and roy keane with a free kick

Awesome that. That was when United were exciting to watch. Sadly United are as mundane now as the rest of the PL. Winning is all. Money is God.

It was actually better in my opinion than today. The Arsenal team of 1998 and Man Utd team of 1999 were phenomenal sides and contained better players than Man City currently have.

@@garymitrovic2503 Also, you realise just how many English players teams (apart from Chelsea) had in those days. It was just better that way - it meant more to them and to the fans, and they still played some brilliant football.
