Man Survives 10,000-Pound Slab of Granite Crushing His Face

Mike Wolo from Massachusetts is lucky to be alive after a horrible accident 20 years ago left his face completely disfigured. His friend, who owned a granite importing shop, had Mike help move slabs of granite that weighed 10,000 pounds each. A granite slab accidentally fell on his face, and his head was crushed to three inches wide. At the hospital, doctors told his family to say goodbye, and they gave him a 2% chance to live. He shared his story with Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall.

Seems like they were long term family friends. IDK about you but I would hate to sue a long term family friend over an accident like this. Maybe they paid or helped pay his medical bills? But negligence is negligence, and it seems from the story there was definitely some that day. So I suppose, I don’t know what I would do. Other than expect that friend and his dad to kiss my ass for the rest of my life, probably.

That’s when you talk to your friend and ask about their insurance and sue them and have the insurance pay you a fat check and the friend does their part by paying the increased premiums. If it was an accident of no fault or equal fault then sue and pay your friend the cost of the insurance premium hike. You get money and he stays whole.

God bless his coworker who was almost 400lbs who immediately ran over and sat on the jack which lifted it enough for the other guys to pull my dad out. He had a lot of damage and to his chest and aoft tissue and broke every single rib but he pulled through and was the best father i couldve ever asked for. 6/24/56-10/19/20 miss my dad every day.

In 2008, I had fallen off a balcony, I landed approximately 20 feet down, on my head, on concrete. Doctors didn’t think I’d survive, some wanted my heart. But, a neurosurgeon told my parents that he could try saving me. A total of 3 brain surgeries, 11 months of therapy, and having to re-learn everything, including how to walk. I’m a survivor, of a horrible accident that should have killed me. Your story is very inspiring, not just to me but to anyone who thinks that miracles don’t happen.

I was struck head-on by a drunk driver. The left side of my body was crushed. I sustained head trauma with shards of windshield embedded in my scull. My left femur was shattered with damage to my left hip. I had 3 broken ribs. My left shoulder cartilage was damaged. After a month in the hospital I was begging my doctor to let me go home. He reluctantly let me. This was 47 years ago. I've had a full life albeit with chronic physical pain. But I am happy every morning to be alive.

I was a stone fabricator for 17 years, and during that time I saw so many potentially fatal conditions. I worked for several different stone shops. Some great, and some really disgusting and dangerous. I love stone, and to this day I enjoy carving granite rocks as a hobby. I'm glad you survived this brother. Amazing story! Congratulations on doing even more than surviving such a horrific accident, but for thriving in spite of it. Your family is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your story!
