I would say his ability to quickly commit to a decision paired with the speed and stamina to follow through made up for his lack of planning and forethought. Of course, if the sidewalk was crowded or someone walked out of those buildings at the wrong time it might not have ended so well. Like splitting lanes on a motorcycle, you can do it...but you're banking on everyone around you not making any sudden moves.

As a Melbourne resident, here is my explanation to clear up any confusion: To travel on public transport in Melbourne Australia, you need a MYKI card, which you pre-load with funds. Whenever you board a tram or train, you tap your MYKI on the machine (as seen in the video), which deducts the correct fare from your MYKI. The single exception to this rule is the “free tram zone”. If you are only travelling within this zone, you don’t even need to tap your MYKI on the machine since your ride is free. But if any part of your trip ventures outside the zone, legally you must tap your MYKI (i.e. pay the fare). I see why this video is confusing to people who don’t know how and why this system works. While this scenario almost never happens in reality, it could theoretically occur if a passenger mistakenly thinks they’re in the free tram zone when they’re not. However, there are signs at tram stops, tram announcements and other measures to prevent issues like this. Lastly, this video is clearly staged for clicks, so yeah… don’t take it at face value.
