    It was a bit hard to figure out Matt's objective for the video... Could be taken either way I guess... If I were to try and inform people about them I would have stated who really makes the compressors for husky and how many other companies rebrand the exact same compress... I think it would also be helpful to tell people out of those companies who would offer the best warranty... I got a small 30 gallon porter cable for home use and it works pretty good for my auto/ metal fab needs... I'm not hard on it like a shop would be though... Mine is the exact same model as many others but I got mine at tractor supply on sale for $380... It's regular price was $430... It's rebranded with other company names on it for around $500-$600... Same exact unit from what i can tell... Same pump, motor, filters, belt, etc... And mine states MADE IN USA not just assembled... Not sure how true that is but whatever... Seems pretty good quality for a $380 compressor... I did a short video of the break in for it and another video installing an extended drain valve for it... It's always the first thing I do when I get a compressor... Of course after checking the oil and plugging it in... LOL

    I just picked up the 60 gallon Husky compressor. The tag welded on the tank that you didn't show says made in the USA. ASME certified. If you put your finger throught the output hole you can feel how thick the metal is. Great setup for the home user. If the motor fails you can swap it out with an upgrade like a Baldor motor for example. Horsepower ratings are now a lot more accurate because compressor makes got sued for false claims. If you want to compare power in the motors look at the amps. The biggest issue for less expensive compressors is the noise. The quieter ones have lower rpm motors. Belt driven cast iron oil ones are better than oiless for noise and longevity.

  • @MattsShop

    @MattsShop

    6 жыл бұрын

    +Mjs S Yea, that's good to know that the tanks are thick and are made in the USA. I'd rather have the tank made in China and the motor/pump made in the USA. The oil-less teflon piston type compressors are usually cheap and disposable. They basically start destroying themselves from the second you turn them on for the first time.

    Matt, most of the DIY / Home compressors like husky, kobalt, craftsman, Eastwood, Harbor Freight, are rebranded Campbell Hausfeld single stage compressors. if you look closely, you will notice the pumps are all the same. years ago CH used to make really good compressors. I have a 30 year old 20 gallon unit that I use in my garage, it can run everything but sand blaster. some time around 2005, CH started using the Sanborn/Coleman pumps and Chinese motors. that's when the quality when down hill. I agree with you an the Quincy compressors, very nice. Ingersoll-Rand make good compressor as well. I have got to the point that I need a larger compressor for sand blasting. so am in the market for a new one. I hear Eastwood is going to offer a screw compressor later this summer. so I am waiting to find out details on that.

  • @MattsShop

    @MattsShop

    7 жыл бұрын

    Shad Van Wow, thanks for the info! Yea, I remember reading about Campbell Hausfeld/Coleman making all these compressors. They ALL have the same build quality and I ALWAYS look at the pumps and they are always the same quality and look very very similar. Ingersoll Rand makes better quality compressors, but those ones are like $2,500 and made overseas. You might as well get the Quincy/Champion. That is interesting that Eastwood is going to offer a rotary screw compressor. However, that'll be wayyy more than most homeowners will need. Still good to know though.

    Where I agree with you that those are junky air compressors, ill disagree with you on what they will run. An air ratchet will take more air than a paint gun any day. Also your not paying more for just extra tank size. The scfm is a big deal when it comes to air compressors. The smaller compressor is 11.5 scfm at 90psi and the larger one is 14.1. Mine in my garage is a dewalt 200psi 5.1 scfm at 90 psi and it handles paint guns fine but my air ratchets starve for air. Show me a paint gun that requires more scfm than either of the two that doesn't cost twice as much as the compressor itself.

  • @MattsShop

    @MattsShop

    7 жыл бұрын

    Brandon Campbell Yea, the CFM is what's important. An 80 gallon compressor should have A LOT more CFM than 14cfm. A true 80 gallon compressor is always two stage and usually has a max pressure of around 175PSI. At. least all of the higher quality compressors do. You're right! Different air tools require different amounts of air to work properly. A die grinder or sand blaster would work the little pumps on these compressors to death! I was just coming up with examples off the top of my head on the spot.

    I 100% agree that USA made would be better than China... Or even Japan or Germany... But not Mexico, India or China... With that said that's the world we live in... It also matters what the intended use and the targeted market for a product is... For the home owner that doesn't need industrial units these compressors work ok... Also from what i understand Husky doesn't make the models shown... There are about 30 companies that rebrand those exact compressors... Not sure who makes the... And as far as double for only 20 gal capacity more that's not exactly what the difference is... The pump and motor are also upgrades... The nice thing about these units is you can find pumps and motors so as long as you drain the tank after each use it should serve the home owner well and be serviceable for 20-30 years depending on the tank... The little ones won't power the air tools you mentioned but that's not what they are made for... Most are for nailers and inflating pool toys and tires... I use to have a 27 gal craftsman pro 110 volt compressor and whenever I needed to use an angle grinder for cleaning surfaces or rotors it worked fine... Would it be nice to have a 5hp 120 gallon all USA made compressor with a fancy dryer system and hard lined in indeed... But for most people it's just not practical for home use... About 3 months ago I could have gotten a used 80 gallon snap on compressor for around $500 but it was huge... You might not like the snap on but it was a good deal and it was of good quality tho rebranded... But I just could have something that big in my home garage plus I don't need it... If it wasn't so big I would have considered getting it for $500 and flipping it for $700-$800 but man those things are to bulky and top heavy to move... It all comes down to what is needed and wanted and budget for the end user...

    Yea, they are expensive, but they will out last you and probably your kids. You can rebuild them too. It just depends on how much you want to spend and your needs. Getting parts for these compressors could be hard years down the road when they change the design. Then you'll have to get a new pump or a whole new compressor. With the expensive ones you can just rebuild the pump.

    Matt's Shop it's basic knowledge. I'm not saying the gentleman is an idiot. But there is a difference in the two meanings. Let's break it down. The word "made" means the parts were designed most likely or created in china. Then the entire compressor was "assembled" here in that USA. Assembled meaning all parts shipped here to basically make the tank. Like I said. Assembled and made are two different meanings.

  • @MattsShop

    @MattsShop

    7 жыл бұрын

    big country My mistake I thought you said the opposite. Yea, obviously the pump is made in China and assembled in the US I already knew that, everybody does. It's just a trick they use to make a sale. No one cares where it was assembled they care where the parts were made. If the the parts were made to high quality standards, then the machine was obviously assembled to the same quality of standards. They go hand in hand. They try to cheap out, go to China, and then trick people and sell them inferior products.

    Matt's Shop well i dont think youre being fair to it being a single stage compressor doesnt mean its not a true compressor it means its a less efficient one. and the gripe about peak hp doesnt make sense because the hp numbers work out to being around the same as the scfm output with a single stage usually producing 3cfm per hp @ 100 psi. most of your made in usa stuff is the same story as this husky being assembled in the usa. california air tools are chinese and many other just have the canisters made in US while everything else is made overseas.

  • @MattsShop

    You're right these compressors have their place that's for sure. I would rather buy a used Champion or Quincy compressor. The industrial-type compressors are just built so much better and last forever. They usually have high quality USA made motors on them too, like Baldor motors. If you're setting up a shop you really want an industrial-type compressor, but for a weekend mechanic or DIY'er, these big box compressors will get the job done for sure. When these big box compressors break, I don't even know if you can get parts to rebuild the pumps and stuff. The USA ones nearly always have rebuild kits.

    They'll definitely run more than what you're saying, lol. You're comparing apples to oranges. Sure, a Quincy or Champion is WAY better, but those are all industrial grade compressors. They're for hobbyists like these are. They're made for shops who are gonna pound the hell out of them like a 2 dollar whore. Def. not for hobbyists. You gotta class this with its competition, like Craftsman, Central Pneumatic, Eastwood, etc.

    MrSlowestD16 lol Why do industrial shops only get REAL compressors? Why can't the little guy (hobbyist) get a quality compressor that isn't complete shit and actually has replacement parts available for the pumps? I do agree with shops needing somthing to beat on though.

    Why do industrial shops only get real compressors? Simple: Money. The term "industrial" points that it's made towards "industry." That is to say it is for professionals who rag on these non-stop. To compensate for the better build quality these industrial grade tools often cost WAY more than hobbyist level tools. Same goes for any high price professional tools such as car lifts and high speed wheel balancers. Sure if a hobbyist has shit-tons of cash to throw around they can easily justify the purchase of these items, but in general it's much easier for a shop to justify them as these items will pay for themselves over the course of may tire changes and what-not. For the hobbyist these items will NOT pay for themselves anywhere near as quickly and most hobbyists won't be able to justify their price tags even in the slightest. The hobbyist CAN get themselves something of that caliber, but 99% of hobbyists don't need anything above a Husky or similar... Comparing those hobbyist compressors to the professional industrial grade ones is like comparing a pick-up to a tractor trailer.

    "Why do industrial shops only get REAL compressors?" It comes down to duty cycle and usage... Not saying these are all that great but you can get a quality compressor that would work great for the hobbyist but at the same time not hold up to shop use day in and day out...

    Air compressors aren't quality built like they used to be. Too many cheap hose lines instead of all metal lines. Thanks for the video.

    I agree, the compressor pumps on these air compressors look very cheaply built.
