I think the ladder itself is backwards. The joints look like they are going in the wrong direction.

Then you lock it. You have to lock it. NOW it's locked. Actually you have to lock it. I didn't have it locked. But NOW it's locked. Actually it wasn't locked. But it is.....very safe to operate.
