Man almost gets hit by Caltrain Bullet Train

A man crosses Caltrain tracks on Tuesday, 02/18/2014 at around 8:40 am; Northbound Caltrain # 227 stops in Redwood City, while southbound # 324 flies right through. The man ignored the fact that the barriers were down.

    In a hurry for what? To get home five seconds earlier, or the pub? WHY do people take the risk? Yeah, you might have to wait at the crossing for a minute or two...or take the risk and get hit by the train which would leave your body splattered all over the railway line. I'd rather arrive at my destination a few minutes late instead of being dead! Not much of a choice really.

    Thee train horn should have been more than a sufficient warning that there was another train approaching (as opposed to the signal remaining active for the stopped train), and all of them should have heard it. That said, I hope they will consider adding a vocal signal that warns of another train, if they have not already.

    Oh my gosh!!! People can be such nut jobs! I don't understand what kind of a moron would do such a dangerous thing. Also, that Caltrain may have been fast like a bullet train, but the Caltrain trains that I'd say would relate more to a bullet are the MP36 locomotives which are mainly used on the Baby Bullet Service. But yah, I'd for sure say that was a very fast train. And that was a very close call! I saw this on the news too! When I start my job as a train engineer for Metra when I grow up, I hope I don't have to run into nut jobs like this, but I think I will considering all the people in Illinois and considering all the rail accidents reguarding pedestrians and moron drivers Metra has had.

    MetraMP36414 The MPI MP36's were almost exclusive to the Baby Bullet originally, but they switched to the EMD's at certain times, due to the 1985 Nippon Sharyo cars having more space in the bike cars. Therefore, it is a mix between the 2 types of Locomotives and yes, those 1985 EMD's are VERY fast. I see them fly by like this almost everyday.

    So, the F40PHs are going into Baby Bullet Service and the MP36PH-3Ss or -3Cs (I forget what Caltrain uses, but I think the -3Cs) but anyways, so the MP36s are going into service with the regular Nippon Sharyo Bi-Levels?

  • @TheCRTman

    @TheCRTman

    9 жыл бұрын

    MetraMP36414 Well the F40PH-2's/2CAT's have been in baby bullet service for a while. The MP36PH-3C's usually still have the Bomarider (not sure if I said that right) bi-level cars, but every once in a while you'll see one (like I did 2 times today) with the 1985 Nippon Sharyo Gallery cars. Sometimes you'll see vice versa. Caltrain tends to use certain locomotives at specific times.

    In Barcelona Area, we have a commuter station called Montada i Reixac (The name of the town it's giving service) with the most average of train accidents of Spain. That is because it has a level crossing which literally splits in two the city. For every 5-minute gap with the gate open, there is a 20-minute gap with the gate closed. Imagine this at rush hour, with people scrambling to get to work on time. Absolutely no one waits for it to be open. Well, the drama is served: More than 5 mortal victims per year, and more than 174 deaths since 2004 JUST IN ONE POINT OF THE WHOLE SPAIN!! There's a political war behind this to bury the pedestrian crossing but there's nothing clear already...
