Idc what you do with the boots, its damned if you do, damned if you dont on that kinda activity. Waterproof boots are great, but your feet will sweat and build condensation while active. Wear cotton socks under your wool socks. Cotton is very absorbant and the outer wool will pull the moisture away from your feet (still not gonna get away from it, but it will manage it better) and itll aid in reducing blisters.

Personally I would have packed some anti diarrhea, anti nausea, and ibuprofen in the boo boo kit, you never know what's going to happen and these 3 cover things that can take you out quickly
