Every time someone says they don't like musicals because no one breaks out in song and dance in real life and that makes them realistic, every single time someone says that I think "you need new friends." Because there are plenty of people in the world who do in fact break into song and dance in real life.

None of them seem to realize that it is structured like a Greek Comedy. Hence why Sophie's choices might not make sense to Garrick. Also the people who "work for Donna" are shown to actually be the Greek Chorus of the film, as seen in the song during the credits. (But yes this is a very white movie.)

BEGGING for at least one of the three co-hosts on this show to have imdb and wikipedia open while recording. or even one of the podcasts producers since that is something other podcast producers execute. almost 80 episodes with comments always having to fact check and correct the show. we get that this isn’t a podcast detailing the ins and outs of films, but a little basic knowledge about the films you guys JUST watched would not only make it more enjoyable for us, but it would make the podcast seem a bit more professional and less carelessly put together. even if you don’t like the movies or don’t know everything about them, why talk about them for an hour and be ignorant the whole time. as three people who pride themselves in their love and knowledge of film, and who assumedly made this podcast with that at its core, it’s frustrating as a listener to have such a fun concept for a podcast seem so undirected. if anyone has recommendations for other film podcasts lmk cuz i’m kinda over the eye rolls this one gives me.

So many hilarious but gobsmacking points I need to raise after listening to this episode: 1. Kelsey doesn't know who ABBA are??!! I wish I was there, then I could give you a rundown of their whole history. They became famous after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. AND the play came way after their success. The band and the music were a thing WAY before the musical became an idea 2. Miles thinking ABBA are American and saying it so confidently??!! I'm so glad he discovered they were Swedish, that would've bothered me if he spent the entire episode believing they were American 3. Garrick hates musicals??!! That makes me so sad for you 4. Rainie not knowing Maury??!! 5. Rainie wondering if the world knew about Steve Martin??!! I recommend Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride 2 - that was my first time watching him when I was young. I just had to let it out! 😮‍💨

I'm actually not as mad at Garrick at the end as I was at the beginning. Now I'm just sorry for him that he wasn't around people who WOULD burst into song and dance for little to no reason cause that was my entire childhood

Mamma Mia is an amazing movie and musical adaptation (I have some quibbles with the cinematography of the first one) and I'm glad Guilty Pleasures is finally covering it!

garrick -- you've never just walked down the street feeling happy and realized you're singing out loud? never been in a bar when backstreet boys comes on and everyone sings? never run into a flash mob or even just some rando goes into a music store and starts rocking out on the piano? music is EVERYWHERE and the fact that you don't seem to notice makes me genuinely sad for you. don't be so cool that you can't appreciate joyful silliness.

No hate to Miles. Him insisting ABBA is American when Kelsey (who literally says she knows nothing about ABBA but) *thinks* they’re Swedish is peak mansplaining. Even the kindest, sweetest guys can’t help it, if there’s a woman in the room, they WILL mansplain.
