I'm still upset that they retconned "Headbanger" Harry's past. I'm okay with him being awkward, but he should have been a British punk rocker :(

Honestly, that title is probably one of the most fitting sequel titles.

Fun fact, I mixed up Amanda Seyfried and Lily James so much that I would judge whether this was a flashback or present day by whether Rosie's hair had gone white

I really like the last song where Sophie sings with Donna. The mother daughter relationship really is the best thing in these movies

You gotta admit naming him Fernando was better than Strawberry Fields from Sgt. Pepper’s since it’s at least a real name

Personally, I refused to watch the movie when the trailer itself revealed Donna's mother to be alive in the first place. I did not mind the fact that Cher makes it look as if Donna was born when her mother was 3 years old (I can suspend disbelief to an extremely large extent and would be more than happy to pretend that her mother just looks as young as Donna due to plastic surgery). But one line that stayed with me when I watched the show onstage and when I watched the first movie was Donna telling her friends that "Somebody up there has got it in for me. I bet it's my mother" which clearly suggests that her mother was dead and she couldn't have possibly made an appearance as a living human being in the second movie. Discontinuity at its finest. They should have presented Cher as a sister or a cousin of Donna's.

Definitely not my thing, but I’ll give the sequel this: it has an interesting idea for a plot. A main character from the previous straight up died in between movies, and the movie alternates between her past and her daughter also becoming a mom in the present. I think that’s actually a neat setup. A setup that happened because of not wanting to pay for the mother’s actress again, but a neat setup nonetheless.

Getting publicly shamed for unironically liking "Mamma Mia: Here we go again" is my kink

Harry gets a side plot where the dude at the dock flirts with him. There’s a post credits scene where they complete it. Though I would understand someone forgetting that since it is only like two scenes

Honestly, this movie should have just been a prequel.

...can I just say that it is RIDICULOUSLY appropriate for this show to be sponsored by a Black Butler parody?

You know you listen to too many musicals when you recognize the woo sound affect as a clip from Catherine Howard's song in Six

I am just dissapointed Bill's younger self wasn't played by one of Stellan's many sons (seriously, four of them are actors!), of which one is literally named Bill.

Am I the only one who thinks it is odd that Donna and her friends have the exact same hair cuts for over 30 years?

I feel the acting in general makes this movie. Yes, Lily James is the standout, but I feel everyone in the cast managed to make even the more ridiculous parts of the movie feel at least somewhat genuine. I was particularly impressed with Amanda Seyfried (who nails this more grounded and mature Sophie who feels the weight of her mother's legacy on her shoulders, so much so that I found myself rooting for her, which I never was in the original film) and Pierce Brosnan (his grieving Sam was very moving and even that little bit that he sings, he does it a way in which it's clear he's singing to himself rather than an audience, which works quite well for the emotions of the moment). I also feel the comedy works better here and I think that was mostly Richard Curtis' contributions (this is the writer of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Love Actually after all).

I would be on-board with a third movie where the Addams Family shows up at the hotel.

I can't believe this movie only came out two years ago. It looks twenty years old.
