Yep, with the most of the new cast I have the feeling they've done what they could but the effect is like it's stll not enouh. I mean I have nothing against them but they don't feel like the characters. especially Donna. I love Lily but there's no Donna's vibe. I wish they casted Meryl's daughter. And I think it would be nice if the young versions had the styles from the pics showed in the first movie.

Wasn’t in love the first film but this film delivers all. Was memorised by Lily James, her character was very fun and vibrant, defiantly delivered her parting role. Brilliant film 9/10

Sequels usually fail but this one was fantastic! Well done!

so it was really bugging me so thinking it through, say donna was like 20 when she got pregnant (some age around then) and then when her and Sam are singing to each other he says hes loved her for 20-something years, so assuming donna is like 40-something in the first movie and this isnt too long after chers character could be 60-70 and it would work out (even though in real life they're very close in age)

Claire Louise Yeah, I know the first movie was made 10 years ago and Meryl might look 40ish there if we squint really hard, but we still have Donna's friends in the new movie who are supposed to be her peers, and they definitely don't look like they could be Cher's daughters :P And even though it's clear the creators went for the "old yet very rich grandma (so she can afford every plastic surgery in the world)" joke, I still think it's been taken too far in here :P

how did you get to the conclusion donna is dead? I think they prepare a surprise anouncemte party to say they are expecting a baby, and invited everyone, and shows us how her mom came to have her ,donna will probably appear at the end. the movie isn't about old donna but younger her and the baby announcement so ofc we will see little of meryl streep

Even tho the first trailer includes dancing queen and mamma Mia, it doesn’t include as much detail of the plot as much as this new one does. I like how this one the mamma Mia song sounds different; More charming if you will and there’s also more of the plot revealed.

Just came back from the theatre a couple minutes ago. This film is absolutely inspiring. You’ll love it trust me. It’s beyond excellent.

I just know I'm gonna be flipping singing every single singing note in the movie when i watch it XD also: I've always watched Mamma Mia at least 5 times every year. I've been watching it pretty much since I was born, and I thought that it was an old movie and that everybody had forgotten about it. But apparently not. And when I saw that there was a second movie, I was so, so, SO happy. I know every word to ALL the songs in the first movie, and this one, I'm sure, will be no different. 😳... 😗 (And it is very, VERY, *_VERY_* rare that I use a 😗 emoji, so that just shows how much I love this movie.)

_.tashaxo _ According to what I found on the Internet this is supposed to take place not long after Sophie's wedding and since this movie also takes a look at Donna's pregnancy _ since she was forced to leave the family house when her mother learnt of her pregnancy she must've been under 18 at the time _ I'd say Sophie is still quite young, younger than 30 so definitely younger than 37 _ my guess is she's still 20 or in her early twenties.

The timings are based around the original west end production which opened in 1999. Sophie is supposed to be 20, born in 1979 (The height of ABBAs popularity) So the first film technically is also set in 1999. Im guessing this film is set not too long after the first film.

Funnily enough, I seem to remember that actor (Jeremy Irvine) playing a young Colin Firth in The Railway Man - looked a lot like him!
