I've actually had more accidents with scissors than with clippers. With clippers it's the same concept that you keep the clipper blade pointed away from the eye and shave in the direction of eye to nose, away from the eye, this way even if they jerk their head they won't come into contact with the blade. I also use a small hand held trimmer, the Conair Palm Pro, that is much easier to maneuver with a super tiny blade that any injury would take some effort on your part lol. One of my dogs has a super short muzzle (Shih Tzu mix) with skin folds so accidentally cutting the skin fold with scissors was common since it sticks up and the skin surface is not flush, I never cut her with clippers. I just thought I would mention this because I spent years struggling with scissors until I found the palm trimmer.

Thank you for sharing this. The skin folds are especially something we must all be aware of, so we appreciate this reminder for all of our home grooming friends! Hugs to you and yours!

I know you have Maltese but are they teacup? Or toy? Or just a normal Maltese? Reason why I ask is because I’m learning about the breed for the future, any info from anyone about this breed would really help ☺️💞 thank you 🙏🏼

Hello I have a Maltese and I never cut the hair around her eyes because that protect her from dust and wind it's a natural protection if you keep doing that you will have a bigger problem with the tears.

Yes, trim around the eyes to keep the hair out of their eyes. You must show your Maltese dogs as their hair is long. I think that's very hot in the summer time if you aren't showing your dogs, that also takes up a lot of time combing them out every day to keep them from matting.

Awww they all look beautiful Not sure what cut I’m going to do with Tiamo. Her father is North Korea and mother is America I see she looks more like the father. But will wait til she is a year old for her first cut. My vet shaved part of her leg when she was spayed which will take a while to grow out. She started tearing but they took out the baby teeth he said that might stop the tearing. She’s on home cooked diet no grain no GMO I followed your diet use ❤️my eyes and I do ❤️it I’m going to send pictures to see what kind of cut she would look good in. Lots of 💕💕💕💕💕to you and babies

When you start growing out the hair what do you use for the hair to not stand up, or look messy? We are doing this for a few weeks but it looks messy all the time. I just wait until it's fully grown or can I use something to put the hair down? Thank you, greetings from Romania❤

  • @MalteseObsessionMO

Yes the in between grow out stage can make our babies look a bit messy, which make the grow out stage very hard. We also have to be patient as it is too easy for me to grab the shears and trim during those messy grow out weeks/months. You can use some products to get the hair to stick in place, however with dogs this may only last a day or just hours. We recommend using tiny snap hair clips to hold down the hairs during grow out stage. Team MO send hugs to you in Romania! Thanks for visiting us.🐾🐶🐾

I really need help. I got a maltese puppy a few days ago and she is 10 wks and very tiny. She was the smallest baby and only weigh 1.6 lbs. Problem is, she doesnt want anything to do with listening. She doesnt interactively play, wont come to any of us and it seems she is just not there somehow. She only wants to play alone and then will just avoid any of our family. We love her so much, we spent a ton for her, in her and do not want to give up on her but every puppy test Ive found on how to pick a good puppy from a litter she has failed, big time. She doesnt seem to like us, she wont be affectionate, prefers to be alone, doesnt care if we come or go from a room and will just walk away from us like we arent speaking or calling her. She also does a strange thing where she follows along a wall and then will lay down when she comes to a corner and curl into a ball. She has 2 of the nicest beds ever. What should we do, I worked for a vet for years and Im at a loss, Ive never seen this before, ever, nothing like it. We thought is she blind, is she maybe deaf? She doesnt respond to dogs barking loud, she does react to other weird noises most that come with vibrations. Help, any advice, we dont know what to do. I reached out to the breeder and she doesnt know she did offer to trade puppies but omg we have fallen for her and she was a gift for my little girls birthday and she doesnt want to give her up. Have you ever heard of a Maltese acting out any behaviors like this? Please can someone help?
